Ana's POV
Nolan lingered with the group of designers, chatting away, while Morris guided me out of the The Summit Hotel.
The silence stretched between us until I couldn't take it anymore. I turned to face him. "What brings you here?"
Neither of us had said a word since leaving, and I figured I'd better break the ice before things got even more uncomfortable.
Morris was Nolan's friend, sure, but showing up to events like this wasn't exactly his scene.
He didn't respond right away. Just studied me with that unreadable expression of his. Finally, he spoke. "I came to ask you something. What did you mean by what you said at the hospital?"
My mind flashed back to our conversation at the hospital. The words I'd thrown at him: 'This is family business. Stay out of it.'
"I meant every word," I said, keeping my voice steady. "Keep your distance from my family drama. It'll just complicate things for both of us."
