Ana's POV
Preston's sudden appearance made Ridley's threatening stance crumble instantly.
I grabbed my chance when Ridley's grip loosened, yanking my arm free and backing away from him fast.
Ridley's empty hand curled into a fist, and something hollow flickered across his face—like he was watching me slip away for good.
Hughes rushed to Preston's side, his face twisted with anger as he pointed at me. "Great-grandfather, look at Mom! She's all dolled up to meet some other guy. She's cheating on Dad. She's not worthy of being my mother."
Aileen's eyes swept over my appearance. I'd barely touched my makeup, but she stared like I'd committed some crime just by existing.
The jealousy radiating from her was almost amusing. I stayed quiet, feeling nothing but disappointment toward the son I'd once loved unconditionally.
Preston's expression hardened. "Say one more word against your mother, and you'll stand in the corner until you learn some respect."
