Elisabeth's POV
My heels clicked against the pristine marble floor like gunshots as I stormed through the hospital corridors. The rage that had been building inside me all morning finally reached its breaking point.
"Really? This is how low you'll go? Sabotaging my career just to control me?" I burst through my mother's office door, my voice echoing off the sterile walls.
Brynlee, the sweet nurse who had tried to intercept me, stumbled in behind me, her face flushed with panic. "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Kendrick. I told her you were in a meeting, but she wouldn't listen—"
I whirled around, my patience completely shattered. "Brynlee, I respect you, but stay out of this. I need to speak with my mother. Now."
The poor woman looked between us, clearly torn between duty and self-preservation. My mother saved her from the uncomfortable position by waving her hand dismissively, never bothering to look up from the medical journal she was reading.
"Leave us, Brynlee. It's fine."
