The headlines screamed across every screen, every newspaper, every social media feed. Jefferson Harding was missing. The story had exploded through the media like a hurricane, sweeping through different networks in waves of speculation and breaking news alerts. They used every word except the one that mattered most: deceased.
His vehicle had been discovered as twisted metal and shattered glass. The wreckage was so catastrophic that survival seemed impossible. Yet something deep in my chest refused to accept what everyone else was thinking.
This was Jefferson Harding. Death didn't claim men like him so easily. He was too formidable, too essential to simply vanish into nothing. Despite knowing that mortality touched everyone eventually, I couldn't bring myself to believe it.
They had to find him. Breathing.
