Chapter 20 - Confrontation

They both matched to the dance floor. As people applauded them, the music started and they began to dance, slowly swaying to the music while some people watched and others engaged themselves with other things. I sat down with my wine looking at the two dancing figures. I think Josh is clearly showing his interest in Sophie. Imagine my vice president dating my crazy friend, but he probably didn't know she's crazy right? I smiled at the thought then I heard someone beside me say "I see you're very happy for your friend"

I turned and saw a blonde girl dressed in a short blue chiffon strapless gown standing behind me. I don't know her at all, I don't know if she's a guest or maybe my fellow employee from another department so greeted curtly

Tamara: Hi

Girl: Tamara right?

Tamara: Yeah

Girl: I have heard a lot about you

Tamara: I see

Girl: (chuckles) you look very simple but who would have thought… so you actually gave the position you couldn't have to your friend?

I kept on looking at her trying to process her intention. It's obvious this girl is here for trouble so I played along.

Tamara: Do you have any problem with that?

Girl: Woow, so bold huh, you really think you're too great to be reprimanded.

Tamara: Can you get straight to the point?

Girl: Just look at you, so much pride. You think you're very smart but let me tell you you're nothing close to being smart otherwise

She was still talking when Sophie completed her dance and came back to me, she wanted to sit but the talking girl was blocking her so Sophie interrupted her

Sophie: Excuse me, please shift, I want to sit.

The girl looked her up and down before saying

Girl: Is this our poised and elegant lady? Well, I'm not surprised coz birds of the same

She was still talking but Sophie cut her off

Sophie: Get lost

Girl: (shocked)

Sophie: Out of my way now

Girl: (embarrassed)

She stepped back and said

Girl: You two just wait and see, what goes up must surely come down

She turned and matched away angrily. I turned to Sophie and asked

Tamara: So what were you planning to do

Sophie: Teach her a lesson of course

Tamara: You, don't you think you should behave a little before exposing yourself to your new crush

Sophie: (laughing) there's nothing to hide, what you see is what you get

We both laughed at the statement while some people fumed. I looked around and found the girl from earlier with a group of girls and among them were some girls from my first department, Dp A, no wonder. The party continued and soon the dance floor was filled with dancing bodies. The elderly colleagues chatted in groups while enjoying themselves and some were already going home leaving the party ground for the younger ones. Sophie dragged me to the dance floor and while dancing I exchanged pleasantries and danced with other people as well. One of them is Sammy, Josh's secretary. As I danced with her, we didn't talk much because the music was loud. She was saying something that I'm trying to understand

Sammy: I saw you with that blonde, she's a trouble maker

Tamara: Yeah

Sammy: Don't mind her to at all, she's only being jealous

I nodded because I don't fully get what she's saying. I have been toasting and drinking for a while and it seems I'm feeling dizzy. I gestured to Sammy telling her that I'm leaving and she nodded. I pushed my way towards Sophie who's dancing her life away with a guy. As I got closer to her I felt someone push me and I was already expecting to kiss the ground but luckily for me, someone held me up. As I stood, the person that held me up was still holding me, making me look at him. He is tall, muscular and handsome, dressed in all black but I couldn't recognize him. I don't know who he is but that didn't stop me from appreciating him.

Tamara: thank you

He only nodded and walked away. I looked around but couldn't figure out who pushed me. Someone tapped me and I turned around to see Sophie standing akimbo.

Sophie: What's happening

She asked raising her voice high enough for me to hear

Tamara: I think it's time to go home

She brought her ear closer to me so that she could hear me. I think I wasn't audible enough

Sophie: Are you ok?

Tamara: Yeah, but I think I'm feeling a little dizzy

Sophie: lol, why won't you feel dizzy with all the concussions you have been taken.

Tamara: Concussions?

Sophie: Come let's sit for a while

She held me as we both walked to our seats. I'm really amazed to see her still standing firm despite the fact that she has been drinking a lot more than I had. She offered me cold water and I took a sip, still struggling to shake off the cloud in my head.
