Chapter 19 - Skill Level Up

Red didn't care about the smell on his body or the food, even though he returned to get food. The first thing he did was to go to the weapon storage.

The real weapon storage was located in the cavern behind their tribe. It was on the same line of the tribe keeping those female humans.

Today might be the best day in his life. It might not be a full recognition, but this was a start, a good start for him.

He did quick-paced walking at first, then he ended up running with the stuff on his body. His loincloth was almost pulled off by the weight of the two daggers and the hatchet. He held on to them and to the weapon storage.

Two warriors were on guard, and they didn't like it when a red-skinned anomaly approached the forbidden area for the kids.

Red could see that from their expression, and he was quick with his action, showing the tooth pendant before the misunderstanding could arise.

The two guards were surprised because it was too quick for a kid from the new generation to be appointed as a hunter. It usually took a week or even a month for a new hunter to appear.

"I am here to get a new weapon for my hunting trip!"

"Leave those scraps here and go inside. You can only pick two weapons maximum and an armor," The guard to the left instructed.

Red put down everything, including the curved blade, even though he was reluctant. The curved blade was the best weapon he had so far.

"Two weapons and armor?"

He glanced at the warrior's armor that was made of leather, and the one to his right was made of some kind of metal with pauldrons. If he had to pick, he would prefer the leather armor. That looked easy to move around and lighter than the metal one.

"Can I choose three weapons instead?"

His question surprised the guards. Even though they were allowed to have two weapons, most of them only picked one weapon and an armor. It was troublesome having more than one weapon.

Two were a hassle, let alone having three, and this never happened to them during their duty. So they didn't really know if it was allowed to have three weapons.

"You can!" The guard on the right answered.

Not that I wanted to have three weapons. He asked in case they didn't have the armor he wanted. He thought of taking three weapons instead. A bow was not bad for hunting.

Red had a scenario with a long-range weapon and two daggers for close combat. It was not like he needed armor in his current hunting ground.

"Can I trade the weapon I don't like after choosing it?" This was an important question. If he could not trade after taking them out, that meant he could not try them on.

"You can trade the weapon, only if your weapon is in good condition. Or you can get a new weapon after thirty nights. Now stop with your useless question and go inside to pick your weapons!"

The guard on the right answered, sounding annoyed with the questions.

Red had one more question, but he didn't ask it. He wanted to ask what would happen if his weapon broke or was lost, but he decided it was better not to ask them anymore. They might have hit him, and they had more strength than those kids.

He nodded and entered the cave that was dimly lit by three torches. That was when he found piles of weapons and armor. The cave was smaller than the cave where the tribe kept the female humans. That made things easier for him.

The first thing he did was to find the pile of spears. He had a special place for the spear since it was the first weapon he had ever held.

The spear was in much better condition. There was no crack in the shaft, and the spearhead reflected the light from the torch.

The first thing he quickly noticed was that the spears were varied in length. Some stuck out from the pile, and some were completely covered under the pile. He had to pull it out to see the shape of the spearhead.

That was right, not just the length. The spear had different-shaped blades. He found a spear that was longer than the one he picked, and the blade was similar to the curved blade that he put outside, just shorter.

He took a fancy to it even though he knew it was not suitable to be a hunting weapon. It was longer and heavier than a normal spear.

He picked it up and gave it a few swings. It was too heavy for him. In a situation where he had to run, this spear would be a hindrance to him.

Red was not going to make his decision this early. He went to the next pile, a pile of bows. The bows were also varied in size. He tried to pull the biggest bow's string, but he could not fully pull it.

He checked the next pile, a pile of armor. Similar leather armors to the guard's were in the pile. He went through the pile and found the leather armor and leather pants that were in the best condition.

Red put that aside for later, but then he halted his steps. He was struck with an idea that he hadn't thought of before. He judged the weapon and armor condition through his naked eyes.

However, he just remembered that he had a skill, a useful skill that might give him information that he could not get just from looking at it with his eyes.

He picked up the leather armor that he had put aside and used the skill.

"Appraisal!"

Leather Armor

Condition: Good

Quality: Common

Attribute: +0.2 Defense

Red slapped his forehead for forgetting the skill. He used the skill on the other armors as well.

Leather Armor

Condition: Decent

Quality: Common

Attribute: +0.15 Defense

Iron Armor

Condition: Decent

Quality: Common

Attribute: +0.35 Defense

He didn't like the feeling of using it, but he kept using it and stopped when he got to the fifth item. A notification popped up after using Appraisal five times.

[Your Appraisal Skill has reached level 2!]

Red was surprised and contemplated. He didn't celebrate the level up. The reason was simple, because he didn't know what the difference was between level 1 and level 2 Appraisal.

He used the skill on the first armor, hoping to find the difference between level 1 and level 2 Appraisal. However, the skill gave him the same information. He could not spot any different information or additional information.

"Isn't my skill supposed to get better?" He was disappointed.

Red could not find the difference after level-up. That was a disappointment, but he figured out something, a way to level his skill. Constant use of the skill would increase his skill level.

Tier 5 Skill Infernal Berserk was still level 1. That was, without a doubt, a powerful skill, and he wanted to level it up. But the risk was too big, which left him in a dilemma.

"I need to find a way to use the skill safely. For now, let's focus on my new weapons."

Red muttered in a low voice as he rummaged through the weapon storage.
