Chapter 41 - Not So Good Idea

Red kept an eye on the battle outside. Once more, the warrior drew the attention of those around him to escape. They seemed to understand his plan and gladly became the bait for him to escape.

Three dire wolves died, leaving eleven dire wolves and a Dire Wolf King. His plan went so smoothly that he felt uneasy. It was too smooth with no challenge, which made him worried.

He shook his head, throwing away the baseless concern. It was good that this went smoothly. Why would he worry that it went smoothly?

Red took a deep breath and observed the situation outside. Both sides once more clashed, and he quickly found his target. He could not see the level of the remaining dire wolf, so the way he picked the next target was based on size.

He picked the smallest dire wolf among the eleven dire wolves. As soon as he locked on the target, he dashed out of the building.

The Dire Wolf King had its eyes on the Chief; the eleven dire wolves were busy with the warrior in front of them. He was unnoticed and quickly arrived at his next target.

Red kicked the ground, lunged forward with his sword. He stabbed the dire wolf's side with his sword, and the sword pierced through to the other side of the dire wolf.

The dire wolf stumbled to the side, whimpering in pain. He thought of locking the dire wolf, pinning it to the ground, and letting the warrior finish it. His role was to control the beast and let the others finish it.

However, the dire wolf thrashed wildly, kicking out in panic, and he was hit on the belly. The kick was so powerful that it threw him backward, landing on his butt.

Red clutched the part he was kicked, squirming in pain. Thankfully, his Levelheaded activated, calming him down. It was stupid to stay on the ground like that with dire wolves around him.

He quickly got back on his feet and glanced at the dire wolf he stabbed. Thankfully, three hobs came in, struck the dire wolf with their spear, and the third hob smashed the head with a mace. The other goblin warriors also arrived, contributing their random stabs and slashes on the dire wolf.

Red immediately turned around, looking for a new weapon. There was really no weapon close to him; most of them were quite far. His eyes landed on the spear, and he deemed the spear would be a good fit with his hit-and-run strategy. Not just that, spear might be his safest option after what just happened to him.

He was about to run toward the spear until he noticed two pairs of red eyes locking on him. Two dire wolves were keeping a watch on him, and that was when he changed his mind. He picked the closest house and made a run toward it.

He didn't even look back as he just wanted to shake off the wolf's attention. The dire wolf could not catch up as he entered the house. At least he thought so until the wall behind him broke apart as a shadow loomed over him from behind.

Red made a quick judgment to duck, and he could see the shadow go over him. The creature landed on the table, breaking it apart. A dire wolf chased after him, and it slowly turned around.

He met with the dire wolf's ferocious gaze. Its mouth gaped open as thick liquid dripped, releasing a hot breath. It was not the biggest dire wolf outside there, but it was still bigger than the one he killed when he used Tob as bait.

The thought of fighting the dire wolf crossed his head, but he quickly threw that stupid idea away. First, it was because this wolf was at least four levels higher than him. Second, he didn't have the right tool to fight something big like this one.

The dagger on his waist was too short for a fight. It was too risky to fight the dire wolf up so close. He needed a distance to avoid that fireball if this one could cast a fireball.

Red thought of running away, but he also quickly threw the idea away. It was foolish to expose his back to the dire wolf. Based on how quick the dire wolf chased after him, it was certainly quicker than he was.

He had no choice but to try to fight it. He took out the metal ball and set up his slingshot, pulling it to the maximum pull. The moment he made a movement, the dire wolf also moved. It leaped toward him with no cue, lunged toward him.

At that moment, Red released the slingshot. His aim was perfect right at the dire wolf's forehead. The thorny metal ball hit the target, and it bounced upward. It growled in pain, drew blood from the flesh, but it didn't slow it down.

Red pushed himself to the side and rolled on the ground. He reached out for the second metal ball. The dire wolf crashed into the wooden wall behind with a bang.

He turned around, supporting himself with his knee as he placed the metal ball in the slingshot. He pulled the slingshot and aimed at the dire wolf that just turned around toward him.

Black blood dripped from its forehead. His shot was not useless, but he was unsure how much that would help him beat the dire wolf. It was wounded, but he didn't think the wound would affect the dire wolf in any way.

'Eye! I need to hit the eye!'

That superficial wound would not weaken the dire wolf, but if he hit the eye, that might help him to turn the situation around.

The dire wolf turned around and rushed toward him once more. This time it took him longer to release the slingshot because he needed more time to aim the eye. Even with an additional aim in his Argent Slingshot, it was not easy to hit a moving, small target.

As the dire wolf approached closer to him, he released the slingshot, aiming at the dire wolf's right eye. The distance between him and the dire wolf was less than two meters.

Swoosh!

The metal ball whistled through the air and hit the target. The metal ball crashed into the eye as blood splattered. The dire wolf growled in pain, but that was not enough to stop it. It was still lunging at him.

Red jumped to the left, trying to roll away from the dire wolf, but he was too slow to dodge. The dire wolf's claw reached the back of his armor, tearing his leather armor apart. The claw reached into his skin, tearing his skin apart along with the leather armor.

Red grunted as the stinging pain hit his back. He rolled and quickly got back on his feet, enduring the pain. It was more painful than he expected, even though it looked like a scratch.

The moment he turned around, the dire wolf was already leaping in the air. He didn't have the time to load another metal ball for another shot. He had to throw himself away from the dire wolf again. The wound on its right eye didn't bother it that much, considering how quickly it came for him again.

In fact, taking out its right eye might not be the best idea since it just enraged it even more. It was obvious that the dire wolf was coming at him mindlessly as it was blinded with fury.
