As soon as Norton finished speaking, a heart-rending scream suddenly rang out from somewhere beyond their line of sight—
"AHHH—!!!"
The agonized cry nearly tore through the sky, ripping apart the unnatural silence that had blanketed the city.
Hayes lightly patted Norton on the back. Receiving the signal, Norton instantly shot forward like a streak of white lightning, racing toward another street just across the road.
But they were still too late.
By the time the wolf and his riders arrived, a dark shadow had just vanished around the corner of a street some dozen meters away.
Norton instinctively tried to give chase, but Hayes quickly grabbed the fur at the back of his neck.
"Norton! Don't chase it. Check the victim first."
The man who had screamed moments earlier appeared to already be dead.
