Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

The night was long for Daxton. The entire West family was here. Daxton couldn't imagine having the same surname as his father, so he chose his grandfather's name, Fremont, instead.

"Kayden, how's the business going?" Daxton's father, Charles, asked a very occupied Kayden. Kayden wasn't in the room anymore, his head was filled with the soft lips he didn't have his previous time to devour.

"Good, uncle. It's going good" Kayden absentmindedly said after being jabbed by Daxton. Kayden's father shot a look to his son, and noticed his unfocused attitude, but kept mute.

The tension in the air was great on Daxton's family. His brothers acted so controlled for the fear of doing something unpleasant to their father.

"So, any girl your eyes is set on? I'm sure my brother can't wait for a wedding ceremony" Dalton couldn't help but feel like disappearing. He knew Kayden would try to annoy his father, he always did any chance he got.

"Actually…I'm thinking of a boy, you know? It's nice to explore other options too" A scowl and look of disgust rested on Charles face as he turned to look at his brother, but Matthew had a completely amused and relaxed expression.

Matthew hadn't always been in support of his brother's strict behavior especially to the point of didacting his children's love life. He has always had an open view on things, but never Charles, and this sometimes brought huge arguments between the brothers.

"Matthew, nothing to say? This can ruin the business" Kayden rolled his eyes. Charles knew this was the only way to make his father reason like him. Kayden's father will always be open minded but when looking at the business, he tends to keep sentiments off.

"They are smart to know which actions will ruin the business, right Mateo and Kayden?" The strict voice of their father, made both boys glance at each other before bowing their heads. Rising their heads, Mateo's gaze landed on Daxton that stood directly in front of him, and before he could get lost in the face before him, he looked away.

Mateo didn't know why he seemed to fluster around Daxton, but one thing was clear, he was into girls, and that's all there is.

The night rolled by slowly, men of similar interests greeted Charles and Matthew, while the women held their cups to other women, leaving the cousins alone.

"What did I see earlier? It looked like you and Andrea had something put down. I see the way you stare at her, Kay my sweet boy" Kayden's huff of annoyance made Daxton laugh. It felt nice turning the tables on Kayden, especially when he's one to keep his life private.

Without letting Kayden answer, he quickly walked over to Andrea who was in the midst of couple of people, and the duo moved deeper into the chatter of people

"He seems close to the brunette" Mateo's voice was icy, like he was glaring at them, but with his mouth. Kayden gave a side glance to his brother, wondering whether the reason he was angry was because of Andrea or Daxton.

"Yeah, nice dynamic" Mateo felt his blood boil. He had never seen Andrea close to any other model during her time as a star, and neither has he seen Daxton, so what was the reason they were so close?

He didn't bother thinking about, as he blamed the sudden interest in their business on pent up sexual frustration. He needed to relieve himself.

"Nice. Anyway, good-bye brother. Later, cousins"

Mateo moved through the crowd, as he brought out his phone to call a particular friend he knew he could easily get this benefits from, leaving Kayden alone with their cousins.

Kayden standing there with his two cousin, Griffin and Alden, began feeling bored. He took the last sip of his drink and bade his cousins farewell, as he maneuvered his way through the crowd.

Kayden went to sit by the pool area of the event center, the chatter of people dead behind him. The cool, night breeze seemed to calm him down. He needed to understand what he was feeling for Andrea. Why did he kiss her? And what is this annoyance when Mateo or even any guy looks at her a minute too long?

He has had female friends in the past, and even now, but he didn't care if they had a beehive of guys they were dating, and he never thought of them outside the friend circle, but somehow, this particular brunette made his heart flutter, and his body tingle with excitement.

"Hello" Kayden was pulled out of his world of thoughts, by the familiar voice. He turned around to look at the brown eyes staring down at him, and the remembrance of what he was thinking about, caused heat to rush to his face, as he looked away.

"Hey. You enjoying the night?" Andrea sat down beside Kayden, the closeness made both of them conscious, excited, but most of all relaxed.

"Well…Daxton's wonderful" Andrea had more to say. She needed to understand why Kayden kissed her, but at the same time, she didn't want to get heartbroken. "So, uhm, can I ask you a question?

"Kayden's eyes looked at Andrea's direction but he didn't move, as he waited for the bombshell, although he already had an idea of what she might ask.

Andrea took the silence as a yes, and continued, "Why did you kiss me back then?" There wasn't any response. After the long silence, Andrea could feel her heart breaking. What if it was a mistake? She wasn't ready to hear that.

"Uhm, I completely understand if it was a mistake, but if…if it was, please don't do it again" Although Andrea had cried more than enough this past few weeks, she felt her eyes welling up. "I don't think my heart can take it"

Kayden didn't miss it. The way her voice cracked at the last words, the almost silent whimper that escaped her lips. He didn't like seeing her break or cry, and neither did he fancy the idea of being the reason she breaks into tears.

Andrea stood on her feet to leave. She had said all she needed, and he didn't seem to have anything to say, so why sit here still? Kayden felt the rising figure of Andrea, and knew she was about to leave, but before Andrea took a step, he held her hand and rose to his feet.

"I'm sorry, if I made you feel that way. I didn't mean to. I…I don't know, Andrea. I..I think…I think I might.." Kayden had heard of rejections before, but not once has it happened to him. He was scared that he didn't know how he'll handle it of Andrea tells him no, but the tears meant something right?

"I…I think I–"

"Oh come on, you little whiny baby, spill it already" Both heads snapped to Daxton who stood not too far away from them, with hands in his suit pants. Kayden's glare increased once he saw the confused look on Andrea's face, but Daxton wasn't here to pity him.

Daxton flourished when he saw a flustered Kayden. This was were he thrived, because he couldn't understand how someone couldn't get flustered by anything. Counting a five seconds timer on his head for his cousin to confess, he decided to drag the cat out of the bag.

"Andrea Wilcox, my shit head cousin here–"

"Say another word, and I'll bury you–"

 "Is in love with you"
