Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 ♡

Xu Gui happily accepted the five hundred yuan and immediately greeted the woman with a very friendly and enthusiastic attitude.

"...What would you like to have your fortune told, sir?" she asked immediately, her eyes eager and confident. "I can tell you anything here, whether you want to know about marriage, children, fortune, misfortune, joy, or sorrow... basically, whatever you want to know, I can tell you!"

The woman glanced at Xu Gui, hesitated, and then sat down on the small stool in front of her.

"You really can tell everything?" she asked.

Xu Gui nodded, then suddenly remembered something: "By the way, how should I address you?"

"My surname is Yang..."

the woman said casually. She pursed her lips, and after thinking for a few seconds, she seemed to have made up her mind.

Xu Gui decided to call her Ms. Yang.

"Didn't I tell you before? When my husband and I got married, his family gave me a dowry of five million!" Ms. Yang brought up this matter again, and as she spoke, a hint of pride appeared on her face, clearly very proud of it.

However, the proud expression on her face didn't last long, and it turned into distress.

Ms. Yang said, "That's the problem. My parents had some trouble, and I wanted to withdraw some money to help them out, but my husband's family won't allow it."

Xu Gui asked curiously, "Why won't they?"

Ms. Yang sighed and said, "My father-in-law is superstitious and believes in luck. He said that the dowry he gave me was specially calculated by a master, who said that five million is a lucky number and shouldn't be touched for a while. As long as we don't touch the money, our family's wealth will increase, and conversely, we will lose money!"

"But my parents urgently need the money, and my in-laws are unwilling to lend them any. The only money I can use is this five million! But now they won't let me touch it, so what can I do?"

At this point, Ms. Yang couldn't help but feel a little frustrated, and her tone was somewhat depressed. It was clear that she had been troubled by this matter for quite some time.

She said resentfully, "Since my father-in-law is superstitious, then I can only treat the symptoms with the symptoms, fight fire with fire... Doesn't he believe in masters? You're a master too, surely he'll listen to what you say?"

She looked at Xu Gui and said, "So, I need you to help me calculate when I can withdraw this money? Actually, I think today would be good, what do you think?"

Xu Gui: "...Let me calculate first."

A few seconds later, Xu Gui's expression became strange. She looked at Ms. Yang, her expression hesitant.

"You might not be able to withdraw this five million," she said tactfully.

Ms. Yang was stunned, then asked anxiously, "Why? Does withdrawing this money really mean our family will suffer financial loss?"

She had previously seemed completely skeptical, but now, hearing Xu Gui's words, her expression showed genuine anxiety and worry—it seemed she did believe it a little.

Hearing her question, Xu Gui said, "...No, it's just that you'll be unhappy if you go to collect it."

Ms. Yang frowned, not understanding Xu Gui's meaning. She said somewhat displeasedly, "Explain yourself clearly, don't be vague and cryptic."

Xu Gui sighed, then looked up at Ms. Yang with a determined expression.

"Since that's the case, then I'll be blunt!" she said quickly, "Is it possible that your husband's family is actually lying to you, that they didn't actually give the five million yuan dowry?"

Ms. Yang was stunned, and without thinking, said, "Impossible!"

"How could something like this be false? I'm not stupid, do you think I don't know whether there was a dowry or not?" She looked at Xu Gui with dissatisfaction, picked up her bag, and was about to leave, angrily saying, "I think you're just jealous of me, jealous that my husband gave me so much dowry, jealous that he's so good to me, that's why you're talking nonsense!"

Xu Gui was bewildered.

"Me, jealous of you?" she asked, pointing to herself in disbelief.

Ms. Yang looked down at her and said, "Isn't that right?"

She curled her lip, looking utterly disgusted, and said, "I knew it! You fortune tellers are all just swindlers and liars, spouting nonsense... I don't know what's wrong with my father-in-law, he's so superstitious!"

Being insulted like this, Xu Gui wasn't angry. She simply retorted, "Are you sure there really is five million? Did you see it with your own eyes? Or did you go to the bank to ask if it really exists?"

Ms. Yang replied, "Of course I saw it with my own eyes! Don't you believe me?"

She reached into her bag, pulled out a passbook, and slammed it on Xu Gui's desk, saying, "If you don't believe me, open it yourself and see. It clearly says five million. How could that be fake? You mean the bank is cheating people?"

Xu Gui opened the passbook and glanced at it. She saw that the number written on it was indeed "five million," but...

"You've probably never touched the money in this passbook, nor have you checked it at the bank, right?" Her bright, clear eyes looked at Ms. Yang, her finger lightly tapping the passbook, and she said pointedly, "Actually, passbooks can be faked. Unless you take it to the bank to ask, who can tell if it's real or fake?"

Xu Gui continued, "If you don't believe me, you can take the passbook to the bank to check, and you'll know if what I'm saying is true or false… Haven't you ever thought about why your husband's family won't let you touch the money in the passbook? Do you really think it's because your father-in-law is superstitious?"

Ms. Yang's expression changed.

It has to be said that Xu Gui's words truly struck a nerve. She recalled her in-laws' strange behavior; every time she mentioned needing the five million, her husband's reaction was odd. He couldn't possibly use the five million…

Ms. Yang felt increasingly uneasy, but dared not think too deeply about it.

However, facing Xu Gui, she dared not show the slightest hint of her true feelings, only saying, "I don't believe you at all. My husband and in-laws treat me so well, they would never lie to me!"

"Hmph, I'm going to take the passbook to the bank right now to inquire... If it turns out that what you said is all false, I'll smash your stall!"

Xu Gui was stunned: ...What did her stall do wrong? Why would they smash her stall?

Seeing Ms. Yang take the passbook and leave, Xu Gui was still sitting blankly on the stool. The person filming couldn't help but anxiously remind her, "Teacher Xu, aren't you going to follow her and see?"

This is such a good topic, it's all about traffic!

However, the paparazzi couldn't be too blunt, so he could only say, "If you don't see it with your own eyes, what if the bank proves the passbook is fake, and Ms. Yang still doesn't accept it? Wouldn't that ruin your reputation as a fortune teller?"

Xu Gui: "...Yeah!"

She suddenly stood up and said, "You're right, I should go and see too!"

She hurriedly followed Ms. Yang, passing the old conman wearing sunglasses, and casually said, "Old man, could you please watch my stall for me? Thank you!"

The old man: ? ?

The paparazzi looked excited, carrying his equipment and following—this was all traffic! No matter how the matter ultimately turned out, the buzz was already there. Although he couldn't see how popular their livestream was right now, he figured it couldn't be low.

The paparazzi sighed: Teacher Xu is useless; only he, the paparazzi, could do his best

!

Xu Gui's Livestream:

[What the heck? Does Xu Gui mean this bankbook is fake? There's actually no money in it?]

[Wait, if this bankbook is fake, then that big diamond ring on Ms. Yang's hand… could it also be fake?]

[Heh, if it's fake, then that makes sense. I always thought that Ms. Yang, no matter how you look at it, didn't seem like a wealthy person at all; she was too pretentious.]

[If this bankbook is fake, and this big diamond ring is fake, then what is real? Although Ms. Yang seems a bit showy, I suddenly feel a little sorry for her.]

[What you're saying only has any credibility if Xu Gui is truly a diviner and everything she says is true; otherwise, it's all speculation. I'm just curious, why do you all believe Xu Gui so much? This matter hasn't even been confirmed yet, and you're already so eager to convict Ms. Yang.]

[?? Yeah, why do we believe Xu Gui so much?] [

It's okay, we'll know soon enough whether it's true or not. Tsk, if it's fake, Xu Gui will probably be cursed to death. But then again, if it's true… wow, that'll be interesting!]

*

Xu Gui's observation was correct. Ms. Yang's matter was indeed a big topic. The number of viewers in Xu Gui's live stream was increasing rapidly. Previously, there were only about a thousand viewers, but now there are five thousand, and it's still rising.

As for Xu Gui, she was spotted by Ms. Yang as soon as she walked out of the overpass.

"Why are you following me?" Ms. Yang frowned, looking quite displeased.

Xu Gui said confidently, "I'm going to the bank with you. Otherwise, what if the bank tells you this passbook is fake, but you refuse to admit it and insist I'm a liar? What am I supposed to do then? I can't let you ruin my reputation as a diviner!"

She couldn't tarnish the reputation of their Xuan Turtle clan; she wanted to prove that their Xuan Turtle clan were born diviners!

Ms. Yang was amused by Xu Gui's words. She asked, "Do you think I'm the kind of person who'd never admit anything?"

Xu Gui replied, "How would I know? I only met you today."

Ms. Yang

was speechless. Looking at Xu Gui's stubborn expression, Ms. Yang lost interest and said, "Fine, go ahead and go if you want." This commotion seemed to have dissipated some of the anger she had been holding in; she couldn't even muster the energy to be angry anymore.

She looked at the bankbook in her hand and gritted her teeth—what she wanted to know most now was whether the bankbook was real or fake.

Logically, she should trust her husband and in-laws more, since she had never believed in feudal superstitions before. However, thinking about their strange attitude when discussing the bride price, she inexplicably leaned towards Xu Gui's words, feeling that she was right.

Ms. Yang stormed into the nearest bank, stormed in, and went straight to the lobby manager. She slammed her passbook on the table and demanded, "Check this passbook for me! Is it real or fake?"

The lobby manager, seeing Ms. Yang's ferocious expression, then noticing Xu Gui's gossipy look behind her, and behind them, a burly man carrying a video camera,

thought: "This is bad! They're after our bank!"
