"What's your name, child? Where do you live?"
When Cain heard Emily speak, he could not help but pause for a moment.
He did not remember much about his early childhood. His parents did not love him. Not only did they force him to pretend to be an orphan and beg for food, but if he failed to bring back enough, he would be beaten and left to go hungry.
He had once wanted to run away, but it was useless. They were his parents, and they could always drag him back. Worse still, just the act of trying to escape would earn him even harsher treatment. Because of that, Cain no longer dared to try running away again.
He looked at the beautiful woman in front of him and shook his head. Suddenly, he stuffed the cotton candy in his hand into Saphen's hand and prepared to leave.
The woman felt like an awakening bell to him. If he stayed here any longer, what awaited him at the end of the day would only be another beating.
