The carriage was Raven's idea.
He presented it with the specific neutrality of a man who had assessed the situation and arrived at a conclusion and was delivering the conclusion without editorializing, which was how Raven delivered most things. The king could not ride. The consort should not ride. The carriage was available. These were the facts and the facts pointed in one direction and Raven had followed them there and was now presenting the destination.
Kaelis looked at the carriage.
He looked at it with the expression of a man who had several objections and was doing the calculation of whether any of his objections were going to survive contact with the facts Raven had just presented.
They did not survive.
"Fine," he said.
Raven's expression did not change because Raven's expression rarely changed but something in the set of his shoulders suggested that this was the outcome he had anticipated and he had allocated no additional energy to the possibility of a different one.
