"Get to safety!" Zhou Yi shouted to the passengers behind him, looking at the disgusting bulk of the Flesh Monster as it was about to spill out of the cabin. Zhou Yi also had a new idea.
Since the Flesh Monster wanted to escape, let it. The environment outside was far better than the inside of the cabin, at least there would be fewer things to worry about. Both in terms of protecting the passengers on the plane and in terms of the limitations on his own abilities, things were much more relaxed.
The only thing to worry about was whether the plane could hold up. He could only hope that the pilot's skills were up to par and could hold out for a while. As long as they could hold out until he eliminated the monster, the safety of the entire plane would be roughly guaranteed.
The Flesh Monster had already moved its entire body outside the cabin. Watching countless fragments fly out of the cabin from the gap it had created, Zhou Yi could only simply manipulate some heavy objects to block the entrance and exit of the cabin to ensure that no one would be sucked out. After that, he also jumped out of the cabin. Outside was his main battlefield, where he would completely eliminate the monster.
Having left the cabin, the monster firmly entrenched its body on the plane. It had already sensed something strange. The swarm's directive was to find a place to retreat. However, the vast, boundless high-altitude clouds offered it no such place to retreat.
It could only use its tentacles to secure its body to the plane, inching its body along, moving towards the rear of the aircraft. In its swarm mentality, devoid of any logical thought, only exploration would allow it to understand its situation.
Zhou Yi had just flown outside the plane when he discovered the Flesh Monster's predicament. This was not unexpected. A creature without a brain, no matter how capable it appeared, could not hide its fatal weakness: a lack of thinking ability. If Yasa's mind was still present, it would never have chosen to run outside the plane. Doing so was equivalent to losing its means of threatening Zhou Yi.
For the Flesh Monster, such thoughts were clearly beyond its comprehension. Its consciousness was a collective one; how could a mass of single-celled organisms even begin to consider matters of strategy?
Watching the mass of flesh and goo inching across the plane using its tentacles, Zhou Yi flew up. A large mass of Azure Flame attached itself to his spear, the sharp blade slicing through one of its tentacles. The six or seven thousand degrees Celsius of the flame could easily burn through its Mental Power defenses. However, it would also cause damage to the plane; the temperature was simply too high. Even with the counteracting airflow, it couldn't completely prevent the plane from being damaged.
But Zhou Yi couldn't worry about that anymore. The plane was already damaged, and a little more wouldn't make things worse. The priority was to eliminate the monster as quickly as possible.
Faced with the flames that had already breached its Mental Power defense, the Flesh Monster finally felt the fear of destruction. A scream generated by its mental energy echoed through the clouds, the sound filled with the fear of every single organism that made up its being.
Threatened by the flames, it didn't even dare to absorb the tentacle fragments that had been touched by the Azure Flame. Its massive body was pulled away by other tentacles, leaving the severed limb to turn to ash in the flames. This was the first time the collective will had abandoned a part of the organism that couldn't be saved. It also meant that it knew this kind of damage was indeed fatal to it.
Watching the Azure Flame burn away the severed limb and then pierce through the outer wall of the plane, Zhou Yi controlled the flame before it could burn more things, guiding it to chase after the Flesh Monster. The temperature of the flames radiated outwards, inevitably causing damage to the plane's exterior. But Zhou Yi had no other choice; it was good that he could generate and control such high-temperature flames, but that didn't mean he could also control the flame's temperature. He could only make a quick decision to avoid further damage to the plane.
The fleeing Flesh Monster clearly sensed the flames coming from behind; it was impossible not to feel that temperature. Especially after its body tissue had just issued a death notice, this perception became even more obvious. To prevent the core from being touched by the flames, a tentacle swung out and fiercely lashed at the flames.
The Azure Flame was immediately scattered, but at the same time, tiny flames had already ignited the tentacle that had dispersed it. This kind of controlled flame could never be easily extinguished unless the user was an idiot.
The Azure Flame burned furiously on the tentacles, spreading towards the main body. Naturally, the main body wouldn't allow such a dangerous thing to touch it. For its safety, the collective will made another choice.
The flaming tentacles were flung towards the sky, and at its base, the main body actively severed the connection. This made the section of the tentacle seem like a fiery snake dancing in the cloud sea, quickly disappearing into the layers of clouds.
Zhou Yi wasn't worried about the damage caused by the high-temperature flames. Once the section of the tentacle was burned to ashes, the flames would have completed his command and would no longer be under his control. Without his control, the flames would quickly become ordinary flames in a natural environment, without any unexpected effects.
Zhou Yi's thoughts wouldn't be drawn to the flames he created. He focused more on the Flesh Monster's behavior. This time, the main body's decisive act of self-sacrifice made Zhou Yi realize the desperation of a creature facing a desperate situation. He was somewhat worried about what kind of destruction the monster would cause before being eliminated.
However, the reality didn't give him much time to worry. The plane had begun to shake frequently, and the altitude was rapidly decreasing. Although it was still barely maintaining a stable posture, Zhou Yi really didn't know how long this posture could last. He didn't have time to worry about so much.
Flames continued to generate, following the swing of his spear. Two crescent-shaped fire blades flew towards the Flesh Monster, which was still fleeing. The monster sensed the threat coming from behind again, and this time it was more proactive. Two flat pieces of body tissue were thrown out to block the fire blades in the air.
Although he could control the fire blades to dodge these two discarded tissues, Zhou Yi still let the fire blades burn them. The life force, devouring ability, and growth ability displayed by the monster had given Zhou Yi a clear understanding of it: this was something that must be completely destroyed, leaving not even a single trace.
The two burning tissues disappeared into the cloud sea. Zhou Yi still swung his spear, using more fire blades to chase after the Flesh Monster. Destroying a part of it would diminish its power. Soon, it would face a desperate situation. Once the collective will was diminished to a certain degree, it might not even be able to neutralize Zhou Yi's Mental Power.
The massive body was shrinking. To avoid the flames, the Flesh Monster, under the collective consciousness, had already discarded much of its own tissue. Although it didn't have a clear thought process to recognize the reduction in its power, it understood this from the weakening of the collective consciousness: it couldn't keep going like this. If it continued, the core that sustained the collective will might lose its power, and the collective could not diminish any further.
With this understanding, the Flesh Monster abruptly accelerated. It transformed almost all of its body into tentacles. These thick tentacles lashed and propelled themselves across the plane, moving as if they were flying.
They were clearly searching for something, seemingly a place to hide.
If you often observe small insects or other invertebrates, you'll notice a very strange habit in these creatures with weak minds. They like to hide in enclosed, hidden, and dark corners. From a certain perspective, the Flesh Monster, a creature composed of a tiny collective consciousness, wasn't much different from these little guys. They would make similar choices.
The Flesh Monster had no external sensory organs, even the parts inherited from Yasa had been destroyed in the battle with Zhou Yi. Its perception of the outside world now relied entirely on mental power fluctuations and its own body's tissue sensors. And within all its perceptions, only one target met its needs.
Perched atop a giant plane within the vast, endless sea of clouds, with a being behind it that could cause immense harm, even pose a deadly threat, the Flesh Monster, now with the thought of hiding, resolutely charged towards what it considered a safe place. And the direction it charged towards was the plane's engine.
Zhou Yi hadn't expected the Flesh Monster to make such a choice. In fact, no one would think that a plane's engine could be a safe hiding place. The ultra-high-speed rotating turbines and intense airflow were enough to dissuade any creature with normal thinking.
However, the Flesh Monster wasn't a creature with normal thoughts; in fact, it didn't even have thoughts, to be precise. It was merely a product of the collection of instinctive wills, and the way this collective will thought was something that normal people couldn't fathom.
In a moment of stunned disbelief, the Flesh Monster had already plunged its entire body into the engine. The furiously spinning turbine shredded every piece of flesh and the other mixed tissues. The intense vortex plastered these remains everywhere inside the engine. Naturally, the engine suffered irreparable damage. The interior warped and deformed, and in severe areas, there were even circuit failures and minor explosions.
The small failures combined, eventually leading to a major accident. Thick black smoke and flames billowed from the engine. But that wasn't the worst news. The worst news was that the Flesh Monster wasn't dead. They had changed form, stubbornly surviving inside the engine in a carpet-like coating.
The plane began to lose control. Lacking the power from one engine, the already battered aircraft could no longer cope. Even the most skilled pilot couldn't maintain a stable flight with an engine failing and a damaged cabin.
The plane began to tumble in the clouds. The violent, erratic movements put immense stress on the fuselage. Several areas of the plane showed signs of damage. Inside the plane, the passengers' cries for help rang out.
No one could remain calm while being tossed around like a ball at an altitude of over ten thousand feet.
Zhou Yi had no choice. He rushed down. From the bottom of the plane, he desperately pushed upwards. He couldn't let the plane continue to shake and spin like that; he had to stabilize it.
He had to act.
