Ororo and Jean Grey rushed towards the upper levels of the Eiffel Tower. The power Magneto displayed had surpassed their expectations, and because of this, they were filled with worry for Zhou Yi.
Magneto wasn't a soft-hearted person. Many years ago, he even considered controlling nuclear missiles to destroy all of human society, returning humans and mutants to a primitive state of competition. If this idea had come true, one could imagine the massive number of casualties. Fortunately, Professor Charles Xavier stopped his insane idea.
It didn't require any thought to know how ruthless someone who could have such an idea would be towards their enemies. Especially for someone like Zhou Yi, who challenged Magneto's authority from a human perspective, death was the most likely outcome, given Magneto's usual methods.
The two of them ran quickly. Their mutant physiques gave them superior physical qualities. A three-hundred-meter tower wasn't a difficult task for them. Soon, they reached the middle of the tower.
Just as they were about to continue, a gunshot rang out. Jean Grey instinctively opened a shield. Sure enough, a high-speed spinning bullet appeared on the Telekinesis shield. The conical bullet was making a futile effort, and after a moment, it fell to the ground due to the exhaustion of its kinetic energy.
"Whoa, whoa! Look who it is, isn't it the beautiful Jean Grey? I think we've met before!" A hoarse female voice came from the crisscrossing steel supports. Ororo and Jean Grey quickly followed the sound and immediately found a blue figure there.
Like a witch, the blue enchantress squatted in a corner of the steel tower, holding a sniper rifle and showing a mocking smile towards the two of them.
Jean Grey's eyes met Mystique's, and she immediately discovered the deep provocation coming from her eyes.
"Ororo, you go first. I'll take care of this one and catch up," Jean Grey said to Ororo, taking a deep breath.
"That's right, you can totally bypass me. But do you really think Erik only has that beast and me down there? There are others waiting for you upstairs, my little chocolate!" Mystique moved nimbly through the steel, appearing on the corridor not far from them in a few leaps.
However, she made a sideways movement, opening up part of the corridor. Obviously, just as she said, she didn't mind Ororo passing through her blockade at all.
Ororo's gaze shifted back and forth between Jean Grey and Mystique. In the end, she gritted her teeth and charged upwards. Magneto's subordinates wouldn't openly violate his ban. That is to say, as mutants, there wouldn't be any life-threatening danger, even if they were on the opposing side. At most, they would just suffer a bit. So she weighed it in her mind and resolutely chose to go up.
Watching Ororo leave, Jean Grey completely focused her attention on Mystique. She was one of the Professor's most proud students and had heard something about Mystique. Just from the perspective of abilities, she admitted that the person in front of her was not her opponent.
"Let me advise you, you are not my match. So, it's best to get out of my way obediently!" Jean Grey threatened lightly, but Mystique, upon hearing her threat, revealed a strange expression.
"Really? My beautiful Jean, do you really think so?"
A bolt of lightning suddenly struck, hitting a police car nearby. The powerful electric field instantly caused a huge explosion, turning the entire police car into a giant burning fireball with a loud roar. Although there was no one in the police car, it still caused a huge commotion.
This scene made Jean Grey even more anxious. She didn't know how much pressure Zhou Yi, facing Magneto, was under, but she knew it would be far greater than that felt by the clueless humans on the ground. Therefore, her desire to rush to his side became even more urgent. Even if she could only share a portion of the pressure, it would be enough to calm her heart.
To that end, she decided to make it quick. She used her Telekinesis to grab Mystique by the throat, hoping to make this enemy lose the ability to resist as quickly as possible.
But Mystique's performance was completely beyond her expectations. Her body began to change instantly. Soon, a familiar figure appeared before her.
"Stop, Jean! It's me!" A man with brown hair and a melancholy, handsome face, wearing conspicuous Ruby Quartz Glasses, called out to Jean Grey.
"Scott!" Seeing this familiar figure struggling in her Telekinesis hand and calling out her name, Jean Grey's hands trembled, and mental instability immediately affected her abilities.
Scott, sensing the weakening of the force on his neck, struggled and broke free from Jean Grey's grasp. At this moment, he touched his neck as he walked towards Jean Grey, expressing deep affection and despair that would move even the most cold-blooded creatures.
"Jean, why. Why would you do this to me for that guy? Have you forgotten everything between us? Why, why are you betraying me!"
Even though she knew that the Scott in front of her was the famous Mystique transformed, Jean Grey couldn't help but take two steps back and defended herself.
"No, Scott. I didn't betray you. Zhou Yi and I are just friends."
"Friends?" Scott's face twisted into a mocking smile, and his features shifted again. This time, he took on Zhou Yi's appearance.
"Jean, you say we're just friends? Doesn't that hurt me too much? I gave you my whole heart, and this is how you repay me?"
"Yi?" Jean Grey's mind became even more chaotic, and she shook her head, at a loss for words.
"So, you really are a bad woman. My dear Jean!" Mystique, disguised as Zhou Yi, walked directly in front of Jean Grey and suddenly punched her in the stomach.
Jean, suddenly attacked, immediately fell to the ground, the pain in her stomach causing her to curl up involuntarily. Mystique reverted to her original form and stepped on her face. She looked at the woman whose face was contorted with confusion and pain, and grinned.
"Do you know why I know about your relationship with these two men? That night, I disguised myself as you and snuck into the hotel. Then I met that cute little man. I originally wanted to get away with it. But that cute little man was just too forward."
At this point, her voice couldn't help but become excited.
"That kind of burning passion almost melted me. I really didn't expect him to have such passion and skill, even though it was uncomfortable seeing your face. But, I have to say, it was a pleasant night to remember. Such a cute little man, how could you let him fall into your hands, don't you think?"
Mystique's laughter reached Jean Grey's ears, and while it was grating, it also ignited her reason. It was as if she heard another self screaming, roaring. She could even feel how angry she was in her heart.
It was as if her private property had been defiled by others; that extreme jealousy and hatred were about to tear her apart. She felt that her other side was beginning to awaken.
Jean Grey herself was an extremely powerful mutant. Within her body was an alter ego whose power level even surpassed Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier. The formation of this persona seemed to be related to a great power born at the beginning of the universe, which also led to her being unable to control her power. At least, not at the moment.
To prevent her power from running wild, Professor Charles Xavier had placed a cage within her heart. This cage contained an entity known as the Dark Phoenix. She was Jean Grey's truest side, the most desirous side. If the Jean Grey who usually appeared was a calm and rational being, then the Dark Phoenix was a being who relied entirely on instinct and emotion.
The Dark Phoenix had been suppressed in the deepest recesses of Jean Grey's heart for years. She was the emotions and power that Jean Grey had sealed away. Professor Charles Xavier had originally hoped to use time to allow Jean Grey to grow to the point where she could accept this power. However, with the passage of time, Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix had completely gone down a path he didn't want to see.
The Dark Phoenix, like Jean Grey, was constantly growing. She absorbed Jean Grey's emotions and used the power of these emotions to repeatedly冲击 her seal. She had always longed to replace the rational Jean Grey and become the only existence. And this was what the Professor absolutely did not want to see.
He could only strengthen the seal time and again by means of his mental power, but the effect was always limited. Emotions were something humans could not control, and Jean Grey's complex feelings also left her position vulnerable.
It was only a matter of time before the Dark Phoenix emerged. Professor Charles Xavier's actions had merely prolonged that time.
This was a deeply hidden secret, known only to three people in the world. Besides Zhou Yi, who had some understanding from his past life, only Professor Charles Xavier, who had constructed a mental cage, and Erik (Magneto) knew about the entity within Jean Grey. As for Mystique, she was completely unaware of it.
If she knew the truth, she would never have challenged Jean Grey's psyche in this way. Beneath that fragile psyche lay something far more terrifying than a volcanic eruption. Provoking her like this was akin to lighting a cigarette in front of a mountain of explosives. However, she knew nothing of this.
In Jean Grey's vacant eyes, a dark red light began to flow, a color like flames, possessing a mesmerizing power just by looking at it. As this light began to circulate, flames also began to rise from Jean Grey's body.
These were not real flames, because while they had the appearance of flames, they lacked the temperature and burning properties of fire. But in terms of destructiveness, they were not inferior in the slightest. Under this dark red flame light, all substances that came into contact with it were easily torn apart and disintegrated. Even hard steel was no exception; both the ground and the supports of the iron tower turned into dust the instant they were touched, and began to slowly rotate around the culprit. It was like a halo of dust orbiting a planet.
Mystique, who had been rejoicing at her foresight in dodging the attack a moment ago, now wore a horrified expression, because she had already seen the woman floating in mid-air, with dark red flames swirling around her body, look at her.
And in that gaze was naked fury and murderous intent.
At this moment, Mystique realized that she seemed to have provoked a dangerous being that should not have been touched. She began to regret it, but regret was completely useless. To save herself, she could only rely on her actions to make amends.
