Chapter 147 - Discussing Plans After Waking Up

Zhou Yi didn't sleep all night, pondering the feasibility of his plan. Sleep wasn't a necessity for his body anymore. He only slept out of habit. When he gave up sleep to focus on his plan, he always found some flaws.

These flaws weren't unfixable, but fixing them would require a lot of manpower and time, both of which he lacked. He had very few people he could trust, and they wouldn't be able to do anything here. As for time, it was even scarcer.

Sitting here, he could see some big moves Umbrella was making behind the scenes, and the bigger their moves, the closer the crisis would be. He could even guess that a terrible crisis was about to erupt.

Umbrella couldn't stop it; otherwise, they wouldn't have evacuated most of their important personnel in such a short time. This proved they judged that this city had no hope in the face of the upcoming crisis. Otherwise, they would never have evacuated, not from a city they built with their own hands.

The source of the crisis had completely erupted, and everything it caused was beyond Umbrella's control. It would destroy this city and bring huge impacts to the entire world. This was beyond doubt.

Zhou Yi once considered whether he could destroy the source before it erupted, thus stopping everything. This was a way to save the city, but after careful consideration, he rejected this plan.

It wasn't that he didn't know where the source of the crisis was. Since Alfred gave him the information, he had investigated Raken City. He knew the existence hidden deep underground. On the night when he arrived in Raken City, he found the problem there. He knew it was the source of the crisis. But he didn't take any action.

Because the real source was Umbrella, the Hive was just the trigger for this event. If Umbrella wasn't brought down, destroying a Hive would be meaningless. If there was a first Hive, there would be a second. He could destroy this one, but couldn't guarantee destroying every one after that. Treating the symptoms but not the root cause, it would be meaningless.

So he chose to watch it happen. Only by exposing everything Umbrella had done to the world could he make all of humanity reject its existence. Only then could he completely eliminate the soil for its survival. Because of this, he had his current plan. Humans must taste the pain to recognize the real danger. All he could do was try to save some lives after the pain was born.

Although some people would sacrifice themselves, it was worth it. Because their sacrifice was enough to help humanity avoid a destructive crisis. From an overall perspective, this small part of the loss was completely bearable.

This was the price of justice. For the whole, you always had to choose to sacrifice a part of existence. And this was often what a hero needed to pay. You needed to weigh what things needed to be discarded and what things needed to be saved.

This wasn't a question that could be answered easily, but it was one that had to be answered. Many heroes failed at this stage because they could never weigh the options, never discern which one to abandon. And that was the most terrifying thing.

When your heart wavered, when you hesitated and felt regret over your decisions, it often meant your strength was waning.

Not physically, but mentally. This kind of decline was even more terrifying; it could cause a person's soul to sink. Especially the soul of a hero. And a hero without a strong heart was nearing their end.

Zhou Yi believed that while his heart wasn't necessarily strong, he had already made his choices in these matters. People always grew, and he naturally would too. From a hero's perspective, he was already a mature one because he was aware of the need to bear pain and sin.

Only those who could bear these things were true heroes. There had never been a perfect person, a saint, in this world. Never. Even if there were, it would only exist in the most naive fantasies.

The night passed like that.

The next day, as the sky was just beginning to brighten, Zhou Yi heard a strange sound. It was the sound of hurried footsteps and things being tossed around. Just from hearing the sounds, Zhou Yi knew that the drunken woman had woken up.

However, this woman still surprised him. Opening the bedroom door, Jill, wrapped in a towel, stormed out, and when she saw Zhou Yi, her eyes were practically spitting fire. Without a word, she raised the gun in her hand and pointed it at him.

"Did you take my clothes off?"

"If there's no one else, then it should only be me," Zhou Yi replied frankly, because there was no one else to take the blame for this.

Hearing Zhou Yi's answer, Jill's face darkened. Without a word, she pulled the trigger. The bullets tore several holes in the sofa, but they didn't hit Zhou Yi. He had already darted into the corner of the room, hiding behind the wall, and began to defend himself.

"Hey, are you crazy! I didn't do anything!"

"Go and tell that to the ghosts, you damn bastard!" Jill's gunshots didn't stop, and Zhou Yi was too lazy to reason with this emotionally unstable woman. He quietly crept from the corner to the kitchen counter and secretly grabbed something.

The bullets were soon used up. Taking advantage of Jill's pause to find a magazine and reload, Zhou Yi threw the apple in his hand directly. The apple hit the pistol, and the force easily knocked the gun away. And without the gun, Jill was naturally not a threat to Zhou Yi.

Soon, he pinned this mentally unstable woman to the sofa.

"Can you give me a chance to explain? Seriously, I didn't do anything to you yesterday."

"Hmph, you shameless bastard. You don't even have the guts to admit what you did, you're a waste, trash!"

"Nonsense! If you hadn't been puking your guts out last night, I wouldn't have bothered to clean you up like this, would I? Do you think you're some kind of treasure?" Even Zhou Yi was getting angry, being yelled at by Jill. He really wanted to give this woman a beating, but he had no standing to do so. So, he could only argue back verbally.

Faced with Zhou Yi's rebuttal, Jill turned her face away, her expression scornful.

"I've seen too many scumbags like you. Let me go. At worst, I'll just pretend I was bitten by a dog. Let go, do you hear me!"

What do you mean, bitten by a dog? Zhou Yi's eyebrows furrowed. He hadn't done anything, yet he was stuck with such a huge burden of blame; anyone would have a bad expression.

But at this moment, he could only let go of this unreasonable woman. Things had become urgent to a certain degree, and there was no time to get bogged down in this matter.

Free from Zhou Yi's grasp, Jill entered her bedroom with a cold face, and soon she changed her clothes and came out. Facing Zhou Yi's grim expression, she didn't say anything, but directly cut to the chase.

"Last night, the thing you mentioned. I need to know your detailed plan."

Jill didn't bring up what had just happened, which was a good thing for Zhou Yi. He didn't want to get tangled up in that mess either. Since she wouldn't believe him no matter what he said, he wouldn't say anything. Anyway, after this, they wouldn't have any relationship.

"My plan is simple. I need your identity and your connections. After all this breaks out, you need to gather a portion of the police force and establish safe havens in this city. Protect the innocent people who are threatened by this crisis."

"Oh, how well you think of yourself. Using my identity to mobilize the police force, do you think those monsters are something anyone can stop! You're sending them to their deaths. If that's your plan, I won't agree to it. I'd rather take them and run for our lives than stay put in one place and wait to die."

"Miss Valentine, you should know that there's no safe place in this city. We're not just facing those monsters, but also Umbrella. Do you think they'll just let you, someone who knows their secrets, escape this city with a bunch of people who could expose what they've done?"

Zhou Yi raised an eyebrow in disdain, his tone full of sarcasm.

"I'm sure that if you don't die in the mouths of those monsters, you'll die under Umbrella's weapons. Unless you cooperate with me, Miss Jill. Only by cooperating with me can you save this city and the people in it."

"Cooperate with you?" Jill curled her lips, a mocking smile on her face. "In my eyes, you're no different from the people at Umbrella. You're all a bunch of damn vampires. There's not a single one of you who can be trusted."

"It doesn't matter if you don't believe me, but you need to know that you can only trust me now. Because only I, after knowing Umbrella's secrets, am willing to help this city. You have nothing else to rely on but me."

As soon as he said this, Jill immediately fell silent. She looked at Zhou Yi coldly, and there was even a hint of resentment in her eyes. This surprised Zhou Yi a little. They didn't have much to do with each other, so why was Jill looking at him with such eyes?

However, Jill didn't give Zhou Yi much time to think, because she had already given her answer.

"I can do as you say, but I want to know what you're going to do? If you do nothing, this plan is meaningless, and I won't listen to you and take a group of people to wait for death."

"What do you think I'm here for?" Looking at Jill's stiff face, he smiled, his face full of the satisfaction of having succeeded in his scheme. "I've already found partners. They'll use the government's power to dismantle all of Umbrella's armed forces here as quickly as possible. And I'll take over everything Umbrella has here as quickly as possible. With our cooperation, Umbrella won't survive long in this world."

"Without Umbrella, it's only a matter of time before the monsters in this city are eradicated. With the source gone, they'll be completely wiped out by human attacks."
