Chapter 4 - The Night He Met Another

The city streets were bathed in the soft glow of street lamps as Keith walked aimlessly through the night. He felt lost and broken, haunted by the memories of the brutal attacks he had unknowingly committed as a werewolf. The weight of the lives lost and the pain he had caused weighed heavily on his heart. Keith had always been a kind and caring person as his parents taught him to be, and the thought of harming others was absent from his nature but the curse that had befallen him had twisted his very being, awakening a thirst for blood that was now seemingly irresistible. Each night, the hunger gnawed at him, and he struggled to resist the primal instincts that urged him to hunt.

He had lost everyone dear to him—the town he once called home was now a haunting memory of destruction. The guilt of unknowingly becoming the monster that had attacked his people gnawed at his conscience, leaving him tormented and heartbroken.

One evening, as Keith wandered through the city streets, he spotted a dimly lit bar with a few patrons laughing and enjoying themselves. Just outside the bar, an old woman sat on the cold pavement, begging for some spare change. The aroma of her blood was overwhelming to Keith, and he found himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame. In a moment of weakness and desperation, Keith succumbed to the temptation. He walked towards the old woman, his heart racing with guilt and shame. He couldn't control the insatiable thirst that gripped him, and with a swift and savage attack, he drained the woman of her blood but instead of feeling relief or satisfaction, Keith felt an overwhelming sense of despair. He had crossed a line he never thought he would, and there was no way to undo the harm he had caused. Tears welled up in his eyes as he stared at the lifeless body before him.

"What have I become?" Keith whispered, his voice choked with sorrow. "I never wanted this. I never wanted to hurt anyone."

As Keith knelt on the bare floor, lost in the darkness of his thoughts, a passer-by spotted the gruesome scene. Horror and disbelief washed over the man as he saw the lifeless body of the old woman and the blood-soaked figure of Keith.

"Hey, you there! What have you done?" the man shouted, his voice trembling with fear and anger.

Keith's head snapped up, his eyes meeting the accusing gaze of the passerby. He tried to speak, to explain that he never wanted this, but the words caught in his throat. The weight of his actions silenced him.

Seeing no response from Keith, the passer-by quickly took out his phone and dialed 911, reporting the horrifying scene he had just witnessed. He stayed on the line with the operator, relaying the details of the attack and pleading for immediate assistance.

"I think it's the cannibal in the news. Please come soon before he escapes," the passer-by said over the phone, his voice trembling with fear.

Within minutes, the blaring sirens of police cars filled the air as they rushed to the scene. The sound seemed to snap Keith out of his trance, and he looked around, panic setting in as he realized the gravity of the situation. He had been so lost in his guilt and grief that he hadn't noticed the approaching sirens.

"Stay right there! Do not move, young man," one of the officers commanded as he and his colleagues stepped out of their vehicles, guns drawn and ready for anything.

Keith was frozen in place, unsure of what to do. He wanted to run, to escape the consequences of his actions, but he knew he couldn't outrun the truth. He had to face what he had become. He was willing to let go.

"Put your hands up!" another officer shouted, his voice stern and commanding.

"I didn't mean to... I didn't want this," Keith stammered, his voice barely audible.

The officers approached him cautiously, their eyes darting between Keith and the lifeless body of the old woman. They could see the torment in his eyes, the internal struggle he was going through.

"Stay calm, son," one of the officers said, trying to maintain a reassuring tone. "We're here to help." "Officer Brent, we have another situation downtown just right outside Lucas Bar," one of the officers spoke to the radio phone he was holding, as they approached Keith.

"Do not try anything fishy, young lad," one of the officers said as he unhooked the handcuffs from his back pocket, ready to put them on Keith.

"It's not my fault. You've got to help me!" Keith cried out. Just as the officer was about to cuff Keith, a blur of movement caught their attention. Before anyone could react, a figure darted past them, carrying Keith away from the scene with supernatural speed.

One of the officers released fire after what happened but he was only able to shoot the air.

"What the heck was that?" one of the officers said as he looked around and couldn't find Keith.

"He is gone," another officer said, wearing a confused look on his round face.

"What's happening over there?" Officer Brent said as he could hear them still over the radio phone.

"Boss, he just escaped. It happened in a flash, boss," the officer responded on the radio phone.

"How the heck is that possible?" Officer Brent shouted and disconnected the call.

In a flash, Keith landed in the woods with a fair blonde girl dressed in a tight black leather suit with an exposed cleavage that was soothing to the eyes. Her glowing yellow eyes caught Keith by surprise. That was the same color of his eyes whenever he turned. Immediately, he knew she was just like him but who she was remained a mystery as he stared intensely at her. Keith's wolf instincts kicked in as soon as he snapped out of the intense stare he gave the strange girl. His claws came out and the breaking of his bones could be heard as he transformed into a werewolf. He was ready to attack.

"Easy now, handsome. I am not trouble," the fair blonde girl said, stretching her palms like she was trying to tame an animal. Keith didn't move an inch. He kept looking at her. His eyes became furious as her hands reaches towards him. The fair blonde girl showed extreme courage as she kept moving toward Keith. She wasn't scared of him. As he was about to make a move, she reaches for the fur on his forehead and a sudden calmness came over him.
