I wasn't expecting this reconciliation dinner to go this well. Honestly, more than the food we ordered, it was his outfit that was truly hurting his bank account. Marcus was wearing a custom all-black Brioni suit that fit him perfectly, with matching custom shoes and a Rolex watch that probably cost more than my college tuition. If there were a scale for an outfit check, Marcus would definitely break it.
I don't know what was happening, but I'd never smiled or laughed with him like this before. Maybe our relationship hit a turning point today.
"By the way, you look okay today," Marcus said. He took a sip from his wine, and I couldn't tell if those words were an insult or a compliment, but they made my stomach churn in a way I couldn't ignore.
"Thank you," I managed, brushing a strand of hair away from my face.
Suddenly, a girl wearing a flashy Versace belt walked past our table. Versace. Victoria. I realized I'd almost forgotten the mission again until that girl walked by.
"Mark," I called out.
"Yes, ma'am?" he replied, setting his glass down.
"Umm... are you and Victor best friends?"
"I don't know how to define our relationship, but I'd say I'm enjoying it," he said.
Why does he have to make everything so complicated? What I asked was one thing, and his answer was something else entirely. I let out a laugh—I had no choice, he was just being ridiculous.
"The reason I asked is because his and Victoria's birthday is coming up. I was thinking... what if we celebrate their birthdays together?" I forced a smile, waiting for his reaction.
"How? They weren't born on the same day," he asked, looking genuinely confused.
I stared at him, my eyes wide with surprise. "Don't tell me you don't know they're twins? What kind of friend are you?"
His mouth dropped open. "He always said 'my little sister,' so I thought he was years older."
The way he looked so genuinely shocked made my cheeks burn even harder. It was such a silly thing, but lately, I'm losing the control I used to have. I'm blushing when he's just talking. What the HELL is happening to me?
