Roxanna didn't believe it at first. She thought Commander Marlow was just joking. But after seeing how fast they could dig—even with their bare hands—she stopped doubting his words.
With only three people, they managed to dig a well ten meters deep in less than an hour. That time even included lining the inside with clay and river stones. But actually, most of the hard work was done by Calen and Marlow, while Luan stayed above, watching them like a supervisor.
"AAAA! The water is coming out of the ground!"
The people in the settlement gasped when they saw water flowing up from the earth. Some of them rushed closer and gathered around the well, staring as the water slowly rose.
"Is this magic?!"
"Leader, did you use magic?!"
Roxanna felt a little overwhelmed as questions came at her all at once. She took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. "The water has always been there," she said gently. "It's just been hidden underground."
