Cyrus leaned closer and stole a quick kiss from her lips before saying, "Because we didn't think you minded this arrangement. If you're jealous, you should say so."
Roxanna immediately turned her face away. She couldn't even bring herself to look at him. In a small, hesitant voice, she replied, "I… I'm not jealous… really."
But her actions betrayed her. The way she avoided his eyes, the faint pout on her lips, everything told a different story. Still, she refused to admit it. It was far too embarrassing, and worse… it would make her sound ridiculous.
Cyrus noticed, of course, and yet he chose not to tease her further. Roxanna was pregnant, tired, and had just endured a long journey, so the last thing he wanted was to upset her.
Thankfully, neither Luan nor Aelin did anything that might make Roxanna feel uneasy. Luan never once urged her to hold his waist when the horse sped up. Aelin, meanwhile, seemed more interested in the scenery… or occasionally Roxanna herself.
