Chapter 143 - Chapter 143: The Wild Spiritual Surge

Lina's mind was pulled downward, sinking through the transparent stone floor and into the glowing roots of the Spirit Root.

She was no longer in the Grand Hall. She stood in a vast, endless space filled with floating, golden leaves. The air was thick with pure, warm spiritual energy. It felt like breathing in sunlight.

Before her, the massive crystalline trunk of the tree shimmered. The bark shifted and formed the gentle, ethereal face of a woman. It was the First Founder.

"Child of the blank page," the Founder's voice echoed. It did not speak in words, but in feelings and memories that bloomed directly in Lina's mind. "For centuries, the dark ones twisted my garden. They turned a sanctuary of cultivation into a cage of fear. They hoarded the spiritual energy of the leylines to feed their own greed."

Lina watched as golden vines wrapped around her wrists, not to trap her, but to connect with her.

"The true purpose of this academy was never to trap the dark," the Founder whispered, her face filled with ancient sorrow. "It was to nurture the light. The students were not meant to be mortar. They were meant to be gardeners, cultivating the world's spiritual energy to heal the earth. The cage was a lie. The tree is the truth."

The vision began to fade. The golden leaves swirled into a blinding vortex.

"I am awake now," the voice echoed, growing louder, vibrating with centuries of suppressed power. "But I have been asleep for so long. My roots are stiff. My branches are wild. Forgive me if I stretch too hard."

Lina's eyes snapped open. She was back in the Grand Hall.

And the tree was stretching.

A deafening, musical chime shattered the silence of the banquet. The floor beneath them glowed with blinding intensity. Then, a massive shockwave of pure, untamed spiritual energy erupted from the ground.

It was not a malicious attack. It was simply the raw, unfiltered power of the earth, released all at once.

"Brace yourselves!" Headmistress Shen yelled, throwing up a shimmering blue shield.

But the wild energy washed right over it. The Grand Hall was thrown into beautiful, terrifying chaos.

The hundreds of floating lotus lanterns began to spin wildly, turning into streaks of comet-light. The air grew thick with glowing, golden mist. The students' own magic, reacting to the massive surge of spiritual energy, spiraled out of control.

Reyon gasped as his small blue butterflies suddenly multiplied into a swarm of massive, glowing azure dragons that roared silently and circled the ceiling. Seren fell to her knees, clutching her head as the "song" of the earth became a deafening chorus of a million voices. Mira's hair floated around her face, surrounded by a halo of raw, crackling pink energy.

"The leylines are overflowing!" Nia shouted over the roaring wind inside the hall. She was struggling to keep her own magic from flaring out of her hands. "The tree is releasing too much power at once! It's going to tear the roof off!"

Lina looked at her right hand. The golden word Kai was burning so brightly it felt like a star was trapped beneath her skin.

The tree wasn't attacking them. It was just a muscle that had been crammed in a tiny box for a hundred years, finally flexing. It didn't know how to control its own strength. It needed a filter. It needed someone to guide the flow.

It needed the Quill.

Lina stepped away from her friends. She walked to the exact center of the hall, right above the thickest part of the crystalline trunk.

"Lina, no!" Mira cried. "The energy is too wild! It will burn you out!"

"I am the blank page," Lina said, her voice calm and echoing with that strange, dual resonance. "I can hold the ink."

She dropped to her knees and slammed both of her glowing palms flat against the stone floor.

The moment her skin touched the stone, the wild spiritual energy rushed into her. It felt like swallowing a waterfall. Her back arched, and a gasp tore from her throat. The golden light traveled up her arms, turning her veins into rivers of fire.

She closed her eyes and reached out with her mind, grabbing the wild, thrashing roots of the Spirit Root.

Slow down, she commanded, pushing her will into the tree. Do not flood the garden. Water it.

Using the golden ink, Lina began to rewrite the flow of the energy. She took the chaotic, roaring river of power and forced it through the narrow, structured channels of the academy's magical arrays. She smoothed the jagged edges of the magic. She turned the wild surge into a gentle, steady stream.

The roaring wind inside the hall slowly died down. The massive azure dragons shrank back into tiny blue butterflies. Seren's painful chorus faded into a soft, harmonious hum. The blinding mist settled into a beautiful, shimmering aurora of pink, gold, and blue light that danced across the ceiling.

The wild magic was tamed. The spiritual energy was finally flowing the way it was meant to, nourishing the school and the students instead of destroying them.

Lina slumped forward, resting her forehead against the cool stone. Her arms felt like lead, and her breath came in ragged gasps, but the burning in her veins had faded to a warm, comfortable glow.

The Grand Hall was completely silent, save for the gentle, rhythmic chiming of the Spirit Root below.

Headmistress Shen lowered her shield. She looked at the beautiful aurora of light, then down at Lina, who was kneeling in the center of the room.

The Headmistress walked over and, to the shock of everyone, bowed deeply.

"You have not just saved the academy, Lina," the Headmistress said softly, her voice filled with awe. "You have given it back its soul."
