Chapter 150 - Chapter 150: The Author’s Trap

The black ice floor shattered.

It did not break into normal shards. It dissolved into millions of floating, purple letters. The characters swirled in the air like a blizzard of raw, unformed reality.

From the gaping hole in the floor, a massive pillar of liquid gold and purple ink erupted toward the ceiling. It didn't have a face or a body. It was a towering, shifting column of words, constantly rewriting itself, screaming in a thousand overlapping voices.

"GIVE ME THE PAGE," the entity roared. The sound wasn't just loud; it was heavy. It pressed down on their minds, trying to force them to their knees.

The blind monk and the dozens of silent monks suddenly moved. They didn't use cultivation. They bit their own tongues, spitting blood onto their hands, and slammed their palms against the melting ice.

They were forming a physical blood-array.

The old monk looked at Lina, his blind eyes weeping blood. He signed rapidly with his free hand. We will hold the floor. You must kill the parasite. Go into your mind.

Lina didn't have time to argue. She collapsed onto the solid ice, clutching her head.

Inside her soul, it was a nightmare.

The golden word Kai was no longer a name. It had unspooled into a massive, glowing golden chain, wrapping tightly around her spiritual core. It was squeezing her, draining her identity, replacing her memories with blank, white pages.

"Why fight it, Lina?" the entity's voice echoed inside her head. It sounded exactly like Kai. It was a cruel, perfect imitation. "You wanted to save the world. You wanted to be the author. Let me in. I will give you the power to rewrite everything. No more pain. No more loss. Just a perfect story."

In the physical world, the pillar of ink lashed out. Thick, whip-like tendrils of purple text shot toward Lina's body, trying to drag her into the pillar.

"Lina!" Mira screamed. She threw herself over Lina's body, using her own back as a shield. A tendril of ink whipped across Mira's shoulder.

Mira gasped. The ink didn't cut her flesh; it erased her. A patch of her robe, and the skin beneath it, simply vanished into white nothingness.

"Mira!" Nia yelled. She grabbed a heavy, broken shard of black ice and swung it like a sword, chopping the tendril in half. The ice shattered the ink, but more tendrils were coming.

"Reyon! Seren! Keep them off her!" Nia ordered.

Reyon didn't have his full shadow, but he still had his physical agility. He slid across the ice, tackling a tendril that was reaching for Lina's face. He wrapped his arms around it, his muscles straining against the crushing weight of the raw text.

Seren dropped to her knees beside Lina. She couldn't use magic, but she had her voice. She opened her mouth and began to sing. It wasn't a normal song. It was the exact, resonant frequency of the Spirit Root's chime. Her voice cut through the roaring noise of the Quill entity, creating a small bubble of clarity around Lina's head.

Inside Lina's mind, the golden chain tightened. Her vision was going white. She was forgetting her friends' faces. She was forgetting her own name.

"Just let go," the Kai-voice whispered. "You are so tired. Be the Author. Be a god."

Lina's physical hand twitched. The golden ink began to crawl up her neck, turning her skin into smooth, blank parchment.

But then, Mira's voice broke through the singing.

"Lina!" Mira cried, her voice cracking with pain and desperation. "Remember the stone bridge! Remember the metal box! Remember the dried blue flower! You are Lina! You are not a blank page anymore! You are the girl who loves the sun!"

Mira pressed her hands against Lina's cheeks. Her perfect, healed memories poured into Lina through touch.

Lina gasped in the mindscape.

The blank white pages in her mind suddenly had words written on them. Mira. Seren. Reyon. Nia. Kai.

They weren't just names. They were her anchors.

"You are not the author," Lina whispered in the mindscape. She stood up, facing the towering golden chain. "You are just the ink."

She didn't try to break the chain. She didn't try to fight the Quill with brute force. Instead, she reached deep into the core of her soul, to the very bottom of her identity, and she pulled out the one thing the Quill couldn't consume.

Her blankness.

When she had been erased in the clock tower, she had become a true blank page. The Quill had tried to fill her, but it had missed the foundation. She was the paper. And paper can always be wiped clean.

Lina closed her eyes and rejected the story. She rejected the narrative the Quill was forcing on her. She let go of the desire to be a god. She let go of the golden ink.

In the mindscape, the golden chain shattered into a million pieces of harmless dust.

In the physical world, Lina's eyes snapped open. They were no longer glowing gold. They were her own, dark, human eyes.

She sat up, gasping for air. The golden ink on her neck receded, sinking back into her skin, dormant and defeated.

"She's back!" Reyon yelled, dodging another lash of ink.

But the victory was short-lived.

The Quill entity below them realized the connection was severed. The pillar of text let out a sound of pure, demonic rage. The black ice monastery groaned violently. The blood-array of the monks shattered.

The floor completely gave way.

"Grab on!" Nia screamed, lunging for the edge of the pit.

But the ice beneath them dissolved into purple mist.

Lina, Mira, Seren, Reyon, and Nia fell backward into the dark, roaring abyss beneath the monastery. The last thing Lina saw before the darkness swallowed them was the blind monk reaching out, his face full of sorrow, as the ceiling of black ice collapsed over his head.

They were falling into the Forge of the Quill. And there was no way back up.
