Chapter 65 - Chapter 143: The Trial of the Seven Sons, Artificial Creation of Gods

The headquarters of the Church of the Seven in King's Landing is located on Visenya's Hill, named the Sept of Remembrance.

The Great Sept of Baelor, which Cersei destroyed in the Game of Thrones TV series, doesn't exist now and certainly won't exist in the future.

After all, even Baelor I, the father of Little Aegon who built it, is already dead.

Apart from its large footprint, this Sept of Remembrance is no different from an ordinary noble's courtyard.

It looks completely unworthy of the Church of the Seven, which holds the main faith in Westeros.

In fact, this Sept of Remembrance is currently a temporary replacement.

The former Sept of Remembrance was located at the top of Rhaenys' Hill, built grandly and majestically, and was extremely solemn.

However, due to the former Faith Militant incident, Maegor I, riding 'The Black Dread' Balerion, raided the Sept of Remembrance.

It is said that the thick smoke from the burning of the majestic Sept of Remembrance covered the entire King's Landing and did not dissipate for seven days.

And on the ruins of the Sept of Remembrance, Maegor I built a huge domed structure, which is the current Dragonpit.

So the struggle between royal power and divine power will never stop, unless... they merge into one!

Clang, clang!

While a grand show of divine judgment by poisoned wine was unfolding in Aegon's Square, the gates of the Sept of Remembrance were violently smashed open.

Then, hundreds of Frey Family soldiers surged in like a tide.

Monks and nuns of the Church of the Seven, who had no idea what was happening, were directly bound and detained by these Frey Family soldiers and then sent out of the Sept of Remembrance.

Only when they got outside did they realize that it wasn't just Frey Family soldiers, but also soldiers from families like Blackwood, House Lannister, and Massey.

The entire Sept of Remembrance is now completely surrounded by these several noble armies who are loyal to the King.

Some monks and nuns who knew the inside story suddenly realized that the King had acted against the Church of the Seven in advance.

But at this moment, the High Septon and the Archbishops are not in the Sept of Remembrance; they are completely leaderless.

Facts proved that Jacaerys was right to rush back to King's Landing to arrange the action in advance when he saw the Church of the Seven's transport ships.

When the Frey Family soldiers searched the latter half of the Sept of Remembrance, they were suddenly met with fierce resistance from a group of armed individuals wearing silver-plated armor and rainbow cloaks.

Since Maegor I, the armed groups of the Church of the Seven, the Poor Fellows and the Warrior's Sons, have been declared illegal.

By the time of Jaehaerys I, he even negotiated and established an agreement with the Church of the Seven, formally revoking their right to judicial combat.

So now there is no need to find any further excuses; this group of resistors, identical in appearance to the former Warrior's Sons, is the best reason.

The threshold for joining the Warrior's Sons of the Church of the Seven is very high; only anointed knights can join.

So most of these resistors are free knights, as well as pious propertied knights, second sons of lords, and other members of the noble class.

Possessing excellent armor and superb swordsmanship, their combat effectiveness far surpassed that of the Frey Family soldiers, and they quickly stabilized the situation and even began to counterattack.

The Commander of the Frey Family soldiers had obviously received corresponding orders in advance; they did not entangle with the Warrior's Sons but began to retreat from the Sept of Remembrance.

Seeing this, the members of the Warrior's Sons were immediately possessed by the Warrior, who represents courage and strength among the Seven Gods.

They began to pursue and kill these Frey Family soldiers from behind.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

When the fiercely battling sides moved from the latter half of the area to the open space in the middle of the courtyard,

a rapidly moving pale green dragon shadow descended from the sky, and the slender pale green Dracarys directly exploded among the crowd of Warrior's Sons.

Ah!!!

Although the Dracarys of this young dragon could not melt the fine armor of the Warrior's Sons members, the temperature was enough to scald the skin underneath, causing it to split open.

Piercing screams immediately echoed in the courtyard, and members of the Warrior's Sons who were hit by the pale green Dracarys fell to the ground, rolling and struggling.

Compared to Womax's black Dracarys that instantly carbonized people, this pale green Dracarys caused more pain and torment.

Baela, riding Moondancer, continuously breathed pale green Dracarys from the sky; the swordsmanship of those Warrior's Sons members, no matter how superb, was useless.

Immediately after, Lucerys, riding Arrax, and Joffrey, riding Tyraxes, also joined the battle.

Of course, he and Baela had both been given auxiliary magic by Ela in advance to reduce their body weight.

Outside the Sept of Remembrance, Stone saw the three dragons join the battle and knew that the fighting was about to end.

He gave a few instructions to Lord Forrester and Earl Samwell beside him, then led a team of soldiers to escort the group of monks and nuns from the Church of the Seven away.

"King Jacaerys!"

"Long live King Jaehaerys!"

"The God on Earth, the Dragon God!"

When Stone and the others arrived at Aegon's Square, they just heard shouts like a mountain roaring and a sea surging.

Since Jacaerys had assigned him and Rudy and others separate tasks, he didn't know what was happening here.

But it seemed that his King had, in this extremely short period, taken tens of thousands of commoners away from the hands of the Seven Gods.

The more he followed Jacaerys, the more Stone felt that the King he served might truly be a God descended to earth.

On the giant bluestone platform, Jacaerys was very satisfied with the reaction of the commoners of King's Landing, and at the same time, he felt it was only natural.

Let alone displaying himself before people with power beyond mortals, even using some small tricks could easily fool these natives, who usually have very little information.

Looking back at the history of China in his previous life, those large-scale peasant uprisings were all about pretending to be gods and ghosts, starting rebellions in the name of gods.

At the end of the Qin Dynasty, Chen Sheng and Wu Guang created 'fish stomach dan book, bonfire fox crying', and Liu Bang created 'drunk slaying white snake'.

At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Jiao, who called himself 'Great Teacher of Peace', used the excuse 'The Azure Sky is Dead, the Yellow Sky Shall Rise'.

At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the Red Turban Army's Han Shantong, Liu Futong, and others created the 'Yellow River One-Eyed Stone Man'.

In the late Qing Dynasty, Hong Xiuquan of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom created 'Heavenly Father Holy Spirit, Taiping Holy Kingdom'.

Why did so many people believe such simple tricks and even actively eliminate other doubters?

That is because the lives of these common people are already hard enough, and they urgently need a deity as a spiritual support.

The situation is the same now; these tens of thousands of commoners in King's Landing personally witnessed the High Septon and Archbishops they believed in die from poisoning.

And Jacaerys, as the blasphemer, was not only not punished by the Seven Gods but also remained unharmed after drinking the poisoned wine.

So they began to believe Jacaerys's words, thinking that he and his dragons were the Gods on Earth.

After seeing Stone arrive, Jacaerys began to add the final touch to his artificial god-making plan.

Roar!!!

Womax, hovering above Aegon's Square, has now completely become Jacaerys's dragon-shaped tool to keep the commoners quiet.

"The result is obvious; the Church of the Seven is a group of big liars who have deceived the Seven Kingdoms for thousands of years.

Their so-called Seven Gods simply do not exist!

Some of you might say that the Seven Gods are high and mighty deities, who disdain to send down divine punishment for such small matters.

Hehe, if that's not enough, then I'll do a little more!"

After Aegon's Square quieted down, Jacaerys, with the appearance of a charlatan, spread his hands and shouted to the crowd below,

"While I was drinking poisoned wine with the Septons of the Seven, Prime Minister Stone has already, according to my command, led the army to encircle and suppress the Sept of Remembrance on Visenya's Hill!

Look over there, those are the monks and nuns who usually preach the faith of the Seven to you!"

As soon as Jacaerys finished speaking, tens of thousands of eyes turned in unison to look at Stone and his group.

The Church of the Seven has very strict requirements for the monks and nuns stationed in King's Landing, so their number is not that large.

Many commoners recognized the familiar faces who were tied up at a glance.

Not only that, some sharp-eyed commoners also saw thick smoke rising from the direction of Visenya's Hill.

William, kneeling on the bluestone platform, saw the dejected monks and nuns of the Church of the Seven walking towards him, as well as the thick smoke rising from that familiar direction.

He immediately let out a heartbreaking roar: "No, I don't believe it!!!

Jacaerys Targaryen, I want to have a Trial of Seven with you, the blasphemer!"

A Trial of Seven can be considered an upgraded version of a trial by combat.

The number seven corresponds to the Seven Gods, so a trial by combat between two teams of seven people each can show reverence for the Seven Gods.

In a Trial of Seven, if the accuser is defeated or surrenders, the accusation becomes invalid, and the accused is declared innocent.

If the accused is killed, everyone believes that the gods have declared him guilty, and the Trial of Seven ends.

And if a person cannot find six people who believe in him and are willing to fight for him, then that person is clearly guilty.

If it were in the past, why would Jacaerys waste any more words with this William? He would have already had someone chop off his head.

But now, the Trial of Seven he requested happens to be exactly what Jacaerys wanted.

"First, you must understand one thing.

My divine status is far nobler than your non-existent Seven Gods; it is not for them to judge me.

Furthermore, I am a merciful and generous deity, so I grant you this dying request.

Now you can choose six people from among your subordinates, and I shall be but one!"

Wow!

As soon as Jacaerys finished speaking, a chorus of exclamations immediately rose from Aegon's Square.

Even Ser Ryam Redwyne, the legendary White Knight who had served Jaehaerys I and Viserys I in succession, would not dare to face seven opponents alone.

But since this King declares himself a God on Earth, he must be able to do what others cannot!

William was stunned when he heard this; his words just now were just to vent his anger, but he didn't expect Jacaerys to actually agree.

He had already accepted his inevitable death, but now it seemed he saw a glimmer of hope.

Without the slightest hesitation, William, fearing Jacaerys would go back on his word, immediately had the Unsullied beside him untie him.

Rudy saw his King nod and ordered the Unsullied to untie his ropes.

After gaining his freedom, William first glanced in the direction of Visenya's Hill, where thick smoke was rising, and then chose six people from among his subordinates who were kneeling in a row.

While William was selecting the members for the Trial of Seven, Rudy also ordered the Unsullied to clear the captives and corpses from the giant bluestone platform.

Clang, clang!

Seven standard longswords were thrown in front of William and his six men, and they immediately bent down and picked them up.

With weapons, William and the others seemed to gain some confidence.

William glanced at Jacaerys, who was standing alone in front of them, and secretly rejoiced in his heart.

The more Jacaerys underestimated them, the greater his chance of holding the opponent hostage and escaping King's Landing.

In fact, William is the Commander of the newly formed Warrior's Sons, and his subordinates are all elites among them.

The seven of them did not speak or communicate about how to fight, and they completed their attack plan relying only on eye contact and gestures.

Tap, tap, tap!

William and his six men suddenly sprang out like leopards, charging towards Jacaerys with their swords.

But during the charge, except for William who still attacked from the front, the other six spread out to the left and right.

In just a few breaths, the six men had circled around to Jacaerys's left, right, and behind him.

Moreover, William deliberately delayed a beat while they were moving, so that they formed a simultaneous, deadly encirclement with the other six.

Perhaps because they were already in a life-and-death situation, the tacit agreement (mòqì - tacit understanding) of William and his six men in this combined attack reached its peak.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Seven longswords, whistling through the air, simultaneously hacked fiercely at Jacaerys's limbs.

But... it was completely useless!

Clang, clang, clang!

Continuous sounds of metal clashing rang out, and the seven standard longswords seemed to have struck an indestructible iron pillar.

William's face was full of shock, and thinking of something, he immediately withdrew the longsword in his hand and cut his own arm.

Pfft!

The sharp standard longsword cut a long gash in his arm, and bright red blood gushed out.

These longswords were actually not tampered with!

Monster, he is definitely a monster!

If his heart was full of shock just now, then now, feeling the pain in his arm, William's heart was filled with panic.

He no longer cared about his previous plan to capture Jacaerys alive and shouted loudly at his six subordinates: "Don't hold back, kill him together!"

Clang, clang, clang!

The six men who heard William's command directly hacked heavily at vital points on Jacaerys's body, including the back of his head, temples, throat, heart, and even his groin.

The seven of them truly used all their might this time, and the standard longswords in their hands even struck a series of sparks from Jacaerys's body.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

After hacking for a full three or four minutes, William and his six men were exhausted and panting.

Jacaerys, who had been standing proudly the whole time, saw this and spoke in a theatrical tone:

"Foolish mortals!

Trying to harm my divine body with your meager strength.

Now, it is time for you to bear the wrath of God!"

Rip, rip!

The sound of flesh and blood tearing echoed on the bluestone platform.

A few minutes later, Jacaerys, covered in blood, held Blackfyre in one hand and raised William's terrified head high in the other.

"I am the Dragon God on Earth!

Those who believe in me shall live without worry in this life!

After death, they shall enter My divine kingdom and be eternally protected!"

As Jacaerys spoke these lines, Womax, hovering above Aegon's Square, timely flapped its wings and hovered directly above his head.

The crowd in Aegon's Square knelt down sincerely, one after another, like dominoes.

From this moment on, the divine status of the Seven Gods in King's Landing was officially shattered, and the divine status of Jacaerys, the artificial Dragon God, was solidified!
