Chapter 49 - Rich and old

Leo gave the pouch a brief glance and assumed there were at least a hundred Ice Train Coins inside, but that did not change anything.

The items he had not added to the list were extreme things like the Mutant Cell Solution and the Mechanical Left Arm, and they were definitely not worth the money.

"Even the cheapest product I did not add to the list is worth 1500 Ice Train Coins. I don't think that little pouch is enough."

A pride he did not bother to hide appeared on the old man's face, and he turned the pouch upside down.

What spilled out were not the blue coins with train engravings that Leo had seen before.

They were golden coins, twice the size of the blue ones.

[Sir, each of these coins is worth one hundred Ice Train Coins. The total amount on the table is 6500 Ice Train Coins.]

Leo swallowed when he heard that amount.

"Hmm, fine. Maybe you do have the purchasing power, but I really do not think you will buy them."

After saying this, Leo snapped his fingers, and the number of pages in the list on the table doubled. The increase in page count was due to the larger font size.

"Look at the last page."

The old man narrowed his eyes at the magical sight in front of him, but his hand did not stop. He picked up the list and flipped to the last page.

[Half liter of water: 4 Ice Train Coins]

[Wool socks: 10 Ice Train Coins]

[Individually sterilized bandage: 20 Ice Train Coins]

[Hard molded soap bar: 5 Ice Train Coins]

[Cotton undershirt: 9 Ice Train Coins]

[Steel sewing needle set: 20 Ice Train Coins]

[Winter beanie: 9 Ice Train Coins]

[Leather reinforced work gloves: 18 Ice Train Coins]

[Glass jar: 2 Ice Train Coins]

[One spool of sturdy linen thread: 2 Ice Train Coins]

"Just these?"

"Old man, there is one more page."

The old man squinted, split the page he thought was a single page into two, and the real last page appeared before him.

[Mutant Cell Solution: 3000 Ice Train Coins]

[Mechanical Left Arm: 2500 Ice Train Coins]

[Mechanical Right Arm: 2500 Ice Train Coins]

[Mechanical Right Leg: 4000 Ice Train Coins]

[Mechanical Left Leg: 4000 Ice Train Coins]

"Interesting. I do not understand why you did not recommend that I buy them."

"Read the small descriptions at the bottom."

As the old man pulled the list closer and read the small text, his eyes began to twitch more and more with each passing second.

"Anyway, you said that if I spend 70 Ice Train Coins, I will unlock new products, right?"

"Yes. If the player who came before you had not spent anything, the list you see right now would be much smaller."

The old man stood up and went to his own train. When he reached it, he opened his system screen and checked what was needed to upgrade the train one more time.

A short while later, he returned and listed the things he wanted to buy to Leo.

At that moment, Leo's shop did not have any basic materials like wood.

After some time, the old man decided to buy water for 70 Ice Train Coins, but Leo refused.

"I am sorry, old man, but we merchants do not carry change. If you don't have seventy blue coins, I will have to ask you to make a purchase worth one hundred coins."

"Fine, so be it."

One second later, Leo snapped his fingers, and twenty-five half-liter water containers appeared behind the old man.

Before opening his mouth hesitantly, the old man looked at the pile of water behind him and decided to carry it to his train first.

"With ten liters of water and ten kilos of coal, I traveled one hundred kilometers. The next station is five hundred kilometers away. I hope there is coal among the new products."

Leo almost let out an embarrassing sound because he suddenly felt as if hundreds of beautiful women were massaging him at the same time. Thankfully, he suppressed it without the old man noticing.

Meanwhile, the old man found a bag outside to carry all the water at once, put the bottles into it, and left the grocery store again.

When the strange sensation disappeared, Leo glanced sideways at the system shop.

This time, he truly saw that the variety of items in the shop had increased significantly.

When the old man came back and sat at the table, he looked much more eager this time.

With a single thought, ten system points were deducted, and the list disappeared, replaced by a tablet.

The old man quickly understood what had happened and frowned. As an elderly man of the previous generation, he was not very familiar with technology.

"Do you have oak wood?"

"Hmm, I have wood that can be used as fuel."

"Do you have steel?"

"I have iron."

"Alright, it seems you don't have the things I need to upgrade my train. At least, do you have coal?"

"Yess actualy! Coal costs five Ice Train Coins per kilogram, and you can now buy water in five liter bottles. Each five liter water bottle is worth thirty Ice Train Coins. Additionally, if you spend one thousand Ice Train Coins, the list will expand again."

Hearing this, the old man clenched his teeth and bought some materials worth one thousand points.

Water for 300 Ice Train Coins, coal for 250 Ice Train Coins, ten packs of instant noodles for 100 Ice Train Coins, and 225 loaves of bread for 450 Ice Train Coins.

Leo clenched his teeth again and fought the urge to groan because of the sensation spreading through his body. Fortunately, this time his invincibility level did not jump a major realm, so the feeling quickly faded.

Leo noticed that the old man had bought the bread for trading, but he did not say anything. At that moment, another question came to Leo's mind.

"Why are you buying so much water? There is an endless amount of snow outside. If you throw it into the steam engine, would it not melt on its own?"

The old man was surprised that Leo did not know the answer to this question, but he replied honestly.

"When I take the water you sold to my train, the system evaluates it. All the water you sell is of rare quality, and as long as I use this water in the steam engine, I have learned that the steam engine will not suffer wear and tear. This saves me a huge amount of repair costs. At first, I thought you were scamming me because I did not know the market prices, but it seems that what you sell is worth its price."

This time, the old man acted more decisively, looked at the newly expanded shopping list again, and purchased everything needed to upgrade his train.

Now, the only thing the old man needed to upgrade his train was a level 2 steam engine, but he only had 400 Ice Train Coins left. The engine he was looking for was in the shop, but its original price was 5000 system points.

Leo directly doubled the price.

The old man sighed, exchanged his remaining 400 Ice Train Coins for clothes, and began carrying all his items away.

After the old man left, Leo collapsed onto the table in shame.

Thinking about how he had reached the peak twice in a row in the hands of an old man, Leo covered his face in embarrassment.
