Her mother looked at the Feebas in the bucket, her eyelids twitching, and her anger grew even stronger. How could she raise a Pokémon like Feebas?! It was famously useless and ugly. She felt disgusted just looking at it.

"Alright," her mother finally said with a dark expression. "However, the Poké Balls at home are all sold out. Just keep it in the bucket for now. When the new batch of Poké Balls arrives at the store tomorrow, then you can catch it."

Ono nodded obediently, extremely happy that her mother did not refuse her. She worked even harder than usual, harboring beautiful hopes for the future.

The Betrayal

At the same time, her mother carried the bucket and walked towards the forest. She stopped in front of a river and casually poured Feebas, along with the water, into the river.

How could she let such a Pokémon stay at home? Not directly dumping it in the sewer was already a sign of her kindness.

Feebas floated on the water, its pair of bewildered eyes watching the woman's retreating back, remaining still in that spot. It waited quietly for a small figure to appear. But it didn't.

The next morning, Ono woke up early and rushed downstairs. The bucket was still there, but Feebas had disappeared.

"Feebas?"

"I threw that thing away," her mother said. "Don't bring back any more random junk in the future, save me the trouble of making another trip. Oh, and put that flute away. Instead of spending time playing that flute, you should spend more time helping..."

Ono could no longer remember the rest of the words. She only knew that she was having difficulty breathing. The world instantly lost its color, leaving only black and white, as if she were in hell.

Feebas was gone... Ono stood still, doing nothing, but two lines of clear tears streamed down her face.

Ono rushed out of the store door, frantically searching for Feebas at every river and lake. She didn't find it. She ultimately didn't find Feebas.

Unconsciously, she walked to Kaito's farm. That day, she cried very loudly. She also saw Brother Kaito have his first conflict with her mother. Brother Kaito pointed at her mother's nose and cursed. That handsome figure was deeply imprinted in her heart.

Later, she voluntarily put the flute into a cardboard box. Her heart also closed at that moment, leaving only a small gap for Kaito and her grandmother.

Kaito's Proposal

In the convenience store, Ono was momentarily stunned, fragments of past memories involuntarily surging into her mind again.

Kaito shifted his gaze from the flute. He also recalled that incident.

"Ono, I've built a Gym at my place. Have you considered not running the convenience store anymore? Come work at my Gym."

Ono was a little nervous. If I worked at the Gym, I should be able to see Brother Kaito every day, right?

"Can I really...?" Ono asked.

Kaito glanced at the flute and said in a deep voice: "You can. I believe in you, and you should believe in yourself too. You like to bury your wishes deep in your heart, and what I need to do is be the farmer who unearths your wishes and makes them come true."

"Like the matter of that flute."

Ono lowered her gaze. "What flute matter...?"

Kaito reached out and gently lifted Ono's head, saying sincerely: "Continue learning to play the flute. And, let's try to find Feebas again! Let's make up for the sadness of childhood."

Looking at Kaito's face, Ono nodded from the bottom of her heart.

Later, she followed Kaito's words, took the flute, and closed the store door. She once again embarked on the path to find Feebas.

The Sea God's Call

The mountains were covered in forests, and there were many water sources. Ono didn't hold much hope.

Kaito and Ono arrived at a relatively large river.

"Wait for me," Kaito instructed, then squatted by the bank and reached his hand into the flowing river water. A rich, aqua-blue light suddenly appeared. Suicune's Blessing activated!

Invisibly, a surge of energy spread from this point to the nearby waters. A large group of Water-type Pokémon quickly swam over: Goldeen, Magikarp, Lotad, Basculin...

"This?!" Ono lightly covered her mouth, watching this astonishing scene. At this moment, Kaito seemed to transform into a Sea God!

"Thank you all for coming to help today. Please help me search for and convey to other Pokémon to find a Feebas; it has two intersecting scars in the middle of its body."

The Pokémon all nodded and spontaneously left, searching for that Feebas.

Kaito gazed at the undulating river. This was actually a gamble. Ono reached out and took Kaito's hand. They stayed there, but the Feebas from back then was not among the arrivals.

Just then, a piece of news turned the situation around. A Feebas stated that it had once seen a fellow of its kind in a body of water somewhat distant from here, and it had claw marks that matched the description.

Without further ado, Kaito directly summoned Salamence, who carried them to that body of water.

The Melodious Reunion

Salamence landed on the grass. Kaito was about to reach his hand into the water when Ono pulled him back.

"Brother Kaito, can I do it?" Ono looked at him, then raised her flute.

Kaito understood, stepping aside. Ono gazed at the body of water and played a melodious flute sound.

Her flute's sound was filled with emotion, expressing her accumulated feelings. Unbeknownst to her, her flute's melody began to possess a certain magic.

Suddenly, a splash of water mixed with the flute's sound. A Feebas leaped from the water, the lingering sunlight reflecting on its body. Two crisscrossing claw marks were particularly noticeable.

Ono slowly opened her eyes. The flute's melody held less sorrow and more joy. Feebas's attention was also entirely on Ono.

In silence, the Feebas leaping into the air erupted in a blinding light of evolution. It had evolved.

As the light faded, Milotic's utterly magnificent form appeared before both of them.

A similarly beautiful sound rang out—"Woo~"

At this moment, Ono remembered what Kaito had said: "Feebas will definitely evolve! It will be like the story of the ugly duckling, evolving into the most beautiful Pokémon!" Brother Kaito was right.

Amidst the melodious flute, the Pokémon danced to its tune, and night gradually fell.

After dinner, Kaito and Ono lay on a blanket, gazing at the starry sky. Milotic frolicked with Lapras in the nearby lake.

Ono turned to Kaito: "Brother Kaito, thank you for always being by my side. Truly... thank you very much."

As she spoke, Ono leaned her face closer. Under the starry sky, two fervent hearts gradually drew near.

Grandma, I've found the man I can entrust my life to.
