Chapter 38 - Trending : But Never At Peace

A week had passed since the live broadcast aired, yet the impact had not subsided in the slightest.

Instead of fading, the names CATYOURS and RUN only grew stronger.

For seven consecutive days, these two names held their ground at the summit of global trending lists, occupying the top spots across various social media platforms, as if refusing to grant any other topic the room to breathe.

In a remarkably short time, both became the most discussed and searched-for subjects, fueled by an extraordinary surge of public enthusiasm—especially after the live broadcast was witnessed by over three million viewers in real-time.

As the week turned, the recording of that broadcast had been watched more than 20 million times on the ASpire Entertainment YouTube channel, and the ever-increasing view count seemed to have no limit. Millions of eyes, thousands of comments, and a sea of likes—2.3 million likes and over 10,000 comments—all served as living proof that the moment had been etched deep into the public memory.

More than just mere numbers, this was history.

The broadcast became one of the fastest-growing shows in the channel's history, shattering figures that were previously unthinkable. And what made it all the more dramatic: the achievement even surpassed the record of the popular group CHASEMINE, who only a week prior had been the "kings" of the spotlight with 10 million views.

The phenomenon did not stop at staggering view counts; it continued to ripple into every corner of the digital world.

Exactly one day after the broadcast, CATYOURS opened their official account on X, and in no time, their follower count touched five million. On Instagram, the numbers soared even higher, reaching 7 million followers, while on their YouTube channel, 10 million subscribers stood in line, waiting for every upload with bated breath.

Yet, the madness didn't end with official accounts.

Across the vast expanse of the internet, fan accounts sprouted like mushrooms after a rain. Some were created by devoted fans who didn't want to miss a single second of this phenomenon, while others were born of curiosity, drawn to the breakthrough currently taking place.

These accounts carried news, the latest updates, wild theories, and trending topics surrounding CATYOURS and RUN—all overlapping, conversing, and echoing the name that was no longer a stranger to the world.

Amidst it all, there was one particular account currently displayed clearly on Margaret's phone screen.

The account was on the Instagram app she was currently browsing.

Although Margaret's eyes were fixed on the phone screen in her hand, she wasn't actually reading anything.

Her gaze was hollow, drifting toward a point that didn't even exist, like someone whose body was present in one place while her mind was lost somewhere far away.

She appeared still, almost motionless, save for her fingers that occasionally tightened instinctively, as if clutching something invisible.

Her thoughts drifted back to that night.

The memory of the seemingly ordinary bouquet of roses and the black tote bag surfaced vividly, as if it had only just happened.

She could still recall how her heart hammered strangely against her chest as she opened the bag, finding a large box filled with neatly arranged sandwich pieces—too neat for something that should have been simple.

And then, there was the paper. A sheet of paper with deep red writing.

The color wasn't like ordinary ink; it was too dark, too coarse—until Margaret became convinced, or perhaps wanted to deny, that the words had been written in dried blood.

In that instant, her knees had buckled. She had collapsed onto the cold floor, her breath coming in ragged gasps, her hands trembling violently beyond her control.

Minutes passed without her realizing it.

Finally, Margaret jolted back to reality.

She blinked several times, as if waking from a nightmare that felt too real. With a slow, deliberate motion, she turned off her phone and slid it into her uniform pocket, letting out a long, heavy breath.

Frankestein noticed the anomaly immediately.

He stole a brief glance at Margaret—lasting only a fraction of a second—before refocusing his gaze on the road ahead. One of his hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Ever since he had picked her up and the car had turned out of the driveway, Margaret hadn't uttered a single word.

There were no greetings, no complaints, not even a casual murmur. For a moment, Frankestein wondered if he had somehow upset her. His sudden arrival, without much explanation, and his offer to drive her to school might have felt intrusive.

But every time he stole another look, that doubt crumbled.

Margaret's face showed no sign of anger. There were no tightly pursed lips, no frustrated furrow in her brow. Instead, it was the opposite—her features were taut, as if she were holding back something far too heavy to speak aloud.

"Why so quiet, hm? Is something bothering you?"

He finally let his voice break the silence, speaking softly because he could no longer stand the atmosphere that, for some reason, made the nape of his neck feel cold—even though the morning air was somewhat warm, with the sunlight feeling harsher than usual.

"Are you upset with me for forcing you to come with me instead of your father earlier, hm?" He offered another guess.

"But… wasn't it the better choice? If you had gone with your father and your friends recognized him as the CEO of ASpire Entertainment, you would surely be flooded with questions, curiosity… perhaps even suspicion."

"Or..."

He paused for a moment.

His hands turned the steering wheel to the left with measured precision, and the car veered slowly, almost silently, following the curve of the road smoothly.

Once the path ahead cleared, he pressed the accelerator firmly. The engine responded instantly, its roar growing deeper as he overtook a motorcyclist who had been obstructing their way.

Before long, the car was cruising effortlessly again, and his voice returned.

"Are you thinking about… them?"

"For the past week, hasn't the entire city—perhaps even the world—been consumed by curiosity about CATYOURS? Five young men who managed to pull in three million real-time viewers in a single night? For a rookie idol group, it is an extraordinary achievement."

"But… haven't you always kept your distance from the 'idol' world, Margaret? So, you don't need to burden yourself by thinking about them, right?

Margaret gave a small start, her breath catching for a fleeting second as Frankenstein's first question pierced through her thoughts.

It was only then that she returned to reality—back into the steadily moving car, with Frankenstein sitting beside her—realizing she had momentarily forgotten they were sharing such a confined space.

With careful movements, Margaret adjusted her seating position, straightening up slightly without letting her back become too tense or rigid.

She stole a brief glance at Frankestein. The man was still staring straight ahead, his gaze sharp and serious, focused entirely on the road unfolding before them. There was no excess of expression on his face, only a sense of calm that, for some reason, felt oppressive.

A few seconds later, she too averted her eyes, looking back at the road ahead.

"I'm... fine. There's nothing on my mind."

Margaret's voice was faint and laced with a hint of hesitation, a tone that made Frankenstein's ears twitch.

It wasn't just the sound of her voice—the very voice he had longed to hear, the one that had left him frustrated all night as his calls went unanswered—but rather the way she spoke, as if she were desperately shielding a secret.

"The more you say you're okay with that tone of voice, the more it proves you aren't okay at all."

"I know you well, Margaret. So don't even think for a second that I can't tell when you're struggling."

His tone, though soft and gentle, carried a streak of undeniable worry—along with a raw sense of care and affection that he didn't bother to hide.

It caused Margaret's heart to skip a beat, its rhythm initially calm before becoming distinct against her chest. That pulse then shifted into a light, irregular flutter, a frantic rhythm that began to disturb her.

"You aren't avoiding me, are you, Margaret?"

His memory flashed back to the moment Victor had forbidden him from coming to Margaret's house, claiming she didn't want to see or be disturbed by anyone—an excuse that felt suspicious and only fueled his distrust.

However, everything changed when Margaret finally replied to his message, mentioning that she would be returning to school today after a nearly two-week absence due to her injuries. For Frankestein, that was the opening—a perfect opportunity to make his move and finally see her.
