Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Psychopomp! Psychopomp?

Stabbing himself twice in the heart would definitely not be a problem!

What was this!

It was pure [Berserker] profession experience! Ian felt a sense of regret now, regretting not fostering a better relationship with Tessa, the psychopomp. Otherwise, he would definitely shamelessly beg the psychopomp for a long-term curse.

"Our relationship isn't that good, but I can still be shameless."

The automatic glass doors of Metropolis General Hospital reflected Ian's seemingly impenetrable face. He stared at his blurred reflection, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the pendant on his chest.

"Right, I also have the attention of the psychopomps' boss... I have a chance, I have a chance. The DC Universe needs its own Deadpool! What the neighboring Marvel Universe has, our DC Universe should have too!"

Ian found himself the moral high ground, and he was also slightly amazed by the psychopomp's authority. It seemed that in the story of *Supernatural*, the psychopomp could even resurrect others?

Truthfully.

That TV show was truly old. Even with his excellent memory, he couldn't recall all the details clearly. Just as Ian was thinking about how he should establish a Mind Palace for himself.

"Make way!"

An urgent shout came from behind. Ian moved aside. An emergency cart rushed past, brushing his shoulder. Its wheels made a piercing screech on the tile floor.

The man on the cart had a grayish complexion, with half a steel bar sticking out of his chest. Blood dripped onto the floor, forming an intermittent red line along the path they took—in any world, there are hardworking and dangerous working-class people.

"All capitalists should be hanged from lampposts, except for me. I will definitely be a conscientious capitalist in the future." Ian knew that even if he shed a few crocodile tears, he couldn't help the dying man.

The only thing he could do was not cause trouble for the medical staff.

Following the signs, Ian found the inpatient building. He first went to the bathroom. Ten minutes later, he walked out refreshed and cheerful, cleaning his bright red knife.

Fortunately, no one saw him.

When Ian entered the inpatient building, a young nurse responsible for registration at the nursing station was organizing patient files. Her chestnut ponytail swayed gently with her movements.

Ian adjusted his breathing and flashed a perfect smile. "Hello, I'm a student from Brewster-Sawyer Public High School, and I'm writing a report for the school about the Star Airlines Flight 143 accident."

"It's not just society that's concerned about this, we students also deeply care about the victims. Could you please tell me which ward the survivors have been assigned to?"

Ian maintained his politeness and also deliberately put on an act and told a small lie. He was definitely not a high school student, but this didn't stop him from pretending to be one.

"Interviewing patients?"

Nurse Kate, who had been looking up with a frown, immediately performed a face change when she saw the handsome boy standing opposite her.

"Is it the patients from Star Airlines? Students these days are truly so caring." Perhaps the nurse initially intended to refuse, but now her attitude was genuinely friendly.

The value of good looks continued to rise.

"Mm-hmm, yes, I'm the campus reporter." Ian pulled the Psychic Card from his wallet's inner pocket and waved it in front of the nurse. However, the nurse only kept staring at his face.

Her earlobes were slightly flushed.

"..."

Ian was a bit unwilling. He felt compelled to use his magical item, so he held the card closer to the nurse's eyes. The nurse was finally affected by the card's power.

In reality, Ian probably wouldn't have encountered any obstacles even without the card's power.

"Wow, you're the Chief Campus Reporter. That's truly excellent." It was proven that women also knew how to offer emotional value. She even thoughtfully stood up and walked out of the nursing station to give Ian directions.

"They are in Zone B, from Ward 32 to Ward 40. That's where those patients are." Nurse Kate stood very close. Ian felt she was heavily sniffing his body wash scent.

"I can take you there, you know."

The nurse's eagerness continued.

"..."

Ian politely declined immediately. He had truly encountered a female predator today. Indeed, no matter the country, nurses were among the most daring groups of women.

"Thank you so much! You truly are a helpful angel!"

Ian maintained his politeness even as he fled.

The nurse would likely be happy for the rest of the day.

The disinfectant smell in Zone B was stronger, mixed with the scent of certain medications. Ian searched around and walked into one of the wards housing the plane crash survivors.

"Hello, I'm the..."

Ian pulled out the Psychic Card again as he spoke.

However.

"A reporter? No, a kid?"

The man lying closest to the door, with his leg cast and suspended in mid-air, looked Ian up and down and asked in a hoarse voice.

"Are you a family member of one of the patients?"

He had clearly misunderstood.

"No, no, no, I'm the campus reporter. The teachers and students at school are very concerned about this air disaster, and I'm here on their behalf to check on everyone's condition."

Ian began his role-playing. As the child of two reporters, he had an inherent advantage in acting as one and truly looked somewhat like a campus reporter.

No one suspected him.

However, just as some people like to show off their iPhones, and others like to flaunt luxury cars and watches, Ian still showed the "found" mysterious card to every survivor he questioned.

He certainly gathered a lot of information, but most of it was useless.

For instance, the flight attendant in Bed 20 said that Superman's arms felt as reliable as steel when he caught her. Ian strongly agreed, having felt Superman's sturdy embrace since childhood.

The businessman in Bed 19 insisted that he saw the plane being shot down by a green laser and complained that the official investigators wouldn't believe him. His words, however, gave Ian some information.

And the elderly woman in Bed 17 mysteriously claimed that Superman smelled of rot. Given her Gypsy identity, Ian couldn't resist wasting a few more minutes on her.

However.

Aside from receiving comments like, "You have an ominous aura," "A very, very big ominous aura," and "I can give you a discount," Ian, fearing that he would sprout red fur in her mouth the next moment, quickly ended the conversation. He didn't obtain any other useful information from the Gypsy woman.

It wasn't until the initial man with the suspended leg noticed Ian questioning many people and taking notes that he spoke to Ian in his hoarse voice.

"Superman smelled of chemical waste from a sewage plant. I worked at a sewage plant for twenty years, and I definitely wouldn't mistake that nasty smell."

This was undoubtedly the most useful piece of information Ian had gathered after all his questioning. The vending machine in the hallway corner hummed. Ian bought a city map and began locating how many sewage plants were near Metropolis.

Just then.

"Patient in Bed 43 is fading fast!"

Medical staff rushed past, pushing a defibrillator.

Ian looked up.

He saw.

Inside the ward, doctors were attempting to resuscitate the patient. Standing next to the patient's bed was a woman, seemingly invisible to everyone else, gently watching the patient.

"Tessa!"

Although the woman had changed her appearance—um, changed her outfit—Ian's eyesight was excellent. Even from a distance, he immediately recognized this woman as Tessa, the psychopomp who had brought him here.

He waved to her.

The fake-smiling boy wanted to try and mend their relationship.

However.

"Hm? A human? You can see me?"

The female psychopomp, feeling the gaze, looked up and slightly opened her mouth in astonishment. Her expression was confused, and her gaze towards Ian was filled with shock and bewilderment.

She looked as if she didn't recognize Ian at all.
