The room was quiet enough to hear her own breathing—steady, but with that subtle tremor you get when your mind is running a full audit of the past. She sat on the edge of her bed, elbows on her knees, fingers laced like she was about to open a board meeting with her thoughts. The dim yellow bulb overhead cast a soft shadow behind her, the kind that makes everything look more dramatic than the budget allowed for.
Her eyes weren't on the walls or the ceiling. They were locked on the floor, like she was reviewing footage only she could see. The past wasn't just knocking; it was doing a full-scale PowerPoint presentation in her head.
She remembered the moment—the day she executed her "revenge strategy." No theatrics, no over-the-top movie soundtrack. Just precision. Someone had hurt her, and she had responded with the type of energy that could make HR call an emergency meeting. She wasn't proud, she wasn't ashamed—she was just… aware. Aware of what pushed her, what she'd done, and what it cost her.
She exhaled, long and controlled, like she was signing off on an internal memo.
The bed creaked slightly as she shifted, pulling her knees closer. "It is what it is," she murmured. Not dramatic. Not emotional. Just a factual operational update to herself. She'd moved past it, but the memory still visited quarterly for routine inspection.
Few years ago:
Eleanor, a bright and happy girl was chatting with her friends in college when she got a call from her mom. Eleanor Walker is a beautiful girl with grey cat eyes that seems to hold a mysterious depth, their soft, muted tone drawing you in with quiet intensity, her lips full and inviting with a delicate celestial shape, as if chiseled by the finest sculptor. A warm beige hue gave her complexion a soft, sun kissed glow with hair as black as coal. Thin elegant eyebrows framed her eyes, while full, long lashes added a touch of drama to her gaze. Her oval-shaped face provided the perfect canvas for her striking features.
"Hi, mom," she said, moving away from the midst of her friends.
"Try to come home earlier tonight, we are having dinner with the Parkers," said her mom."Ok mom, I'll do my best. I have to go now, love you."
"I love you too."
The Walkers were the epitome of luxury and sophistication. Their lavish lifestyle was evident in every aspect of their lives, from their grand estate to their exquisite taste in art and fashion. The family's wealth was not limited to their material possessions. They were also known for their philanthropic efforts, supporting various charitable causes and hosting high-profile fundraising events. Their Opulent mansion, nestled in an exclusive neighborhood, boasted crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and intricately carved wooden paneling. The perfectly manicured lawns and gardens were a testament to their impeccable style.
Mr. Walker, a successful businessman exuded confidence and poise, while his wife, Mrs. Lydia Walker, a socialite, was renowned for her elegance and grace. Their children, a son and a daughter, were raised with the utmost privilege, yet were taught the value of hard work and humility.
The Smiths' influence and reputation extended far beyond their social circle, earning them a respected place among the city's elites.
Eleanor's P.O.V.
I managed to wrap up by 5pm, I picked up my purse and was ready to go the parking lot when I heard Charlotte voice from behind."I won't be going with you today, I have a date," she said."I see, who is the lucky guy and why didn't you tell me earlier?" I said tugging at her shirt.
Charlotte, a less beautiful version of me with an average height, has been my friend since childhood. She is also one of the elites in my society. She is an extrovert, always ready to mingle.
"I'm really sorry, I thought I told you. I'll make it up to you. Rico is the lucky guy, by the way," she said."Apology accepted. So, you finally got your hands on Rico, right?" I spoke, playfully. Rico has been the name that never seems to leave my friend's lips these days. I'm glad they've got something going.
She just winked at me playfully."Bye then, call me later," I continued. "Bye," we both parted ways and I headed straight to the parking lot. I glanced over my watch and it was 5:42 already. 'Shit, mom is gonna kill me,' I said inwardly as I entered the car and drove out of the school premises.
I arrived at the mansion later than I expected, this was due to traffic. Dinner was by 6 and I arrived by 6:12. When I entered, mom gave me a stern look and I replied with an apologetic look. She just sighed and looked away."Whom do we have here?" Mrs. Parker said."Your little princess of course," I replied, smiling.
Mrs. Parker has always referred to me as her 'little princess'. "Honey, she is not a baby anymore," Mr. Parker protested playfully. "But I want to be her little princess," I said, pretending to be sulking. Everyone laughed in unison. When the laughter died down, I went upstairs to freshen up and I came down later to join them.
Later in the evening, the Parkers went home and I went to bed because I was exhausted.
I woke up the next morning to find my mom staring at me intensely. "Good morning mom," I greeted. "Good morning, dear. Are you alright? you went to bed quite early yesterday." she replied."I'm fine mom, I was just tired from yesterday's traffic," I simply said. "Ok then, but make sure you take good care of yourself. Your father and brother are waiting for you downstairs," My mom said.
"Thank you, mom, I love you," having said that, I got out of bed and bolted into the bathroom. I went straight to the dining table as I was crazily hungry. "Good morning, Dad," I greeted. "Good morning, Elly," My dad and Edwin both replied. Families and close friends call me Elly.
"How are you doing today? Edwin," I glanced at my brother."Very well, thank you". He replied casually. I finished breakfast quickly and headed out for college.
That was how peaceful my life was until I met Simon, the guy whom I thought to be my better half. You all want to know how I met him right? You would know soon enough.
A year passed and I was in my final year. Finally, I'd get to explore the world as I deem fit, so I thought. Little did I know that life has a lot in stock for me. My graduation date was fast approaching and I was so excited. I was glad that I would be free like the birds high in the sky. I was so eager to be solitary, I planned on exploring the world with my friend, Charlotte.
One faithful day, I was at the mall with Charlotte when I felt someone staring at me. I looked around and my eyes met a pair of beautiful eyes. We held each other's eyes for a moment before I broke the eye contact. He smiled and walked away. Little did I know that Charlotte was watching us. She cleared her throat and I glared hard at her."What's with that look?" she asked."I should be the one asking you that, shouldn't I?" I replied."You have a new admirer, I guess he would be paying the bills too," she giggled and I found myself blushing hard.
I would say my admirer is very good looking, there was something about his eyes that captivated me. His eyes were so bright and expressive. He has strong jawlines and prominent cheekbones. His hair was deep brown, thick, healthy and styled perfectly to frame his face. His physique was a toned, athletic build that hints at a healthy lifestyle.
We got to the counter to pay for what we bought but we were told that someone already settled our bills."Your bill has been settled Ma'am," the cashier explained. Charlotte gave me an 'I told you so' look and she smiled widely revealing her cute dimples. I just thanked the cashier and left while looking around for him.
