Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Exercise of the Body [2]

Seeing as there was an uneven number of children she called a child from about three quarters up the line. He was little taller than the woman, but he had a little bit more wait the rest of the kids. He was not, none of them were he was just the one that had the most on him.

They stood a forearms length apart with their backs to each other, and then they bent at the knees and met at the middle. The woman came down just enough that her knees wouldn't pass her toes, but the boy was struggling and had to readjust himself twice.

" You are not far enough down. Raise one arm straight out, then raise your hand to the sky without moving your upper arm." The boy did and she continued. Your thighs are to be like your upper arm and your stomach is to be like your forearm. Recreate this in your form."

The boy tried to come down more pressing against the immovable woman as he did. He came down enough that his thighs and torso were at a 90° angle, but he had to readjust himself yet again because his knees came past his toes. Already feeling the burning in his legs, the child began to whimper.

"You are to come down and count to five then come back you before repeating this exercise five more times. Then we will move on." Hearing this, Lancrael turned to Wade who was already turned to him. "You think really slow don't you." Wade said more like a statement more than a question.

Lancrael crossed his brows but paired himself with Wade anyway. They both came back to back and started squatting. Lancrael's knees came forward to much and Wade arched forward trying to balance himself and the noticed both of them. "Lancrael watch your knees and toes. Wadlen straighten up. Good, now count to five. If you both are not in perfect form you can not start counting."

As she was talking a couple of children lost grip at their feet and fell together. She picked both of them up, and guided them down the whole way. When they made a mistake, she moved the part of their bodies that was the issue while supporting the other child so the don't fall. She watched them do it with perfect posture twice before saying, "Now do that five more times."

The woman left the now sobbing children to work with another pair. Wade and Lancrael were on their fourth squat while Bob was crying in the third with a partner a head shorter than him. Children seem to have boundless energy when it came to fun and game, but if effort is required for a repetitive action they don't know the purpose for it's like pulling teeth.

When the children finally finished, most of them were cry, and were thinking that they were being punished. The woman who brought fear to the children for reasons that Lancrael didn't know simply clapped her hands and the children stopped like they went sober. A hand full were sniffing, but they stopped crying and started listening.

"Pick up your feet high, and walk in place." The woman said before once again giving her own example. The children began following suit. Now marching in unison; though, such was not their intention. "Keep that pace and follow me." The woman said before turning around and started jogging ahead.

Bob, the proverbial ring leader, marched behind her, and then rest of the children in toe. At first it felt nice as it stretched there thigh muscles, but without protection for their feet each step became agony. Each stay stone and stick cut into their feet, but they couldn't stop, and many had already suffered worse.

The woman signaled Bob to keep going as she moved aside and slowed down until she reached the middle of the line. "Exercising the body is also an exercise and test of will. So, those of you who want to grow will grow exceedingly because they chose to endure suffering for a better outcome. Those who give up, well it's too early for that."

Lancrael could feel what she meant. They had not been running long, but he could already feel pain on his left side, just below his ribs. Air felt like it just went to his head and refused to inter his lungs. He could hear Wade breathing loudly behind him, so he must have started feeling it too.

"Running on flat ground is for endurance and speed while going up hill is to train for power in one's legs." Just as always the woman didn't speak unless it held a purpose and so they began running up hill. The hill was steep enough to make the high steps seem like normal walking.

When they finally made it, Lancrael's vision in one eye was red from all the blood pumping to his head. His veins pulsing from lack use. It was miserable for everyone involved besides the woman whose breathing was steady.

"Now running down hill is dangerous, but it uses muscles that don't usually use to balance yourself." Everyone groaned and looked at Bob with eyes of contempt as he followed the woman down hill. Lancrael's footing, like many of the other children, were unsteady and full of hesitation.

"My favorite part of any run is the trek back, because you can visit anything you missed." The woman said without a hitch or pause. "While you will need to rest from doing any of the other exercises, running is the only exercise that can be done daily. This is because you can train different muscles by changing the environment in which you run."

A little further down towards the gate they came from she continued, "Some of you are seeing in red because your bodies are not use to the amount of blood running throughout, but with time you will get use to it. When you do, you will be able to do more because your body can handle more blood, and your blood is your power."
