Let's get one thing straight: Luther wasn't actually interested in Bulma romantically.
She was brilliant, sure. Cute, definitely. But she was a teenager with blue hair and a temper. Luther's tastes leaned more towards mature, sophisticated women who didn't scream when they broke a nail.
But practically? Bulma was the most valuable asset on the planet.
Luther needed a geneticist. He needed someone who could look at a double helix and rewrite it like it was Python code. Because Luther had a vision.
A Kryptonian-Saiyan Hybrid.
But not just any Saiyan. He didn't care about the run-of-the-mill monkeys like Raditz or Nappa. He didn't even really care about the "Prince" Vegeta or the lower-class warrior Kakarot. They were Ki masters. Their strength came from technique and spirit.
Luther wanted Broly.
The Legendary Super Saiyan. The mutant. The berserker.
Broly wasn't a martial artist; he was a natural disaster. His power wasn't about refined Ki control; it was about raw, biological overflow. He was a tank with infinite stamina and defense that grew exponentially every second he fought.
That was compatible with Kryptonian physiology.
If Luther could fuse the "Solar Battery" of a Kryptonian with the "Infinite Rage Engine" of the Legendary Super Saiyan... he wouldn't just be Superman. He would be a god of destruction that couldn't be killed, couldn't be tired out, and got stronger the harder you hit him.
"So," Luther thought, glancing at the girl walking beside him. "I need to lock this partnership down."
They were standing outside the front gates of the Capsule Corporation compound. The sun had set, and the futuristic streetlights of West City were humming to life.
"Brother Luther, today was... amazing," Bulma said, looking up at him through her lashes. Her cheeks were flushed a deep pink. She was swaying slightly, clearly riding a dopamine high from the rollercoasters and the proximity to her crush. "Thank you for taking me."
She was fully in "little sister" mode, hoping to upgrade to "girlfriend" mode.
"I should be thanking you, Bulma," Luther said, his voice dropping to a warm, sincere register. "That serum you whipped up? It solved a problem I've been stuck on for months. You're incredible."
Bulma beamed. "Oh, it was nothing! Just basic chemistry."
Luther smiled. While she was distracted by the compliment, his eyes flashed blue for a nanosecond.
X-Ray Vision: Active.
He scanned the massive Briefs estate. He looked through layers of concrete and steel, past the lab, into a dusty storage warehouse in the back.
There it was.
Sitting on a shelf, wedged between a broken toaster and a spare tire. A orange, crystalline orb with stars floating inside.
The Two-Star Dragon Ball.
Dr. Brief evidently treated mystical artifacts like paperweights.
Good, Luther noted. I'll pick that up later.
He turned his attention back to Bulma. It was time for the "Grand Gesture." He needed her to be more than just a crush; he needed her to be a confidante. He needed her to feel special.
"Bulma," Luther said softly. "There's something I need to tell you. Something I haven't told anyone else."
Bulma's breath hitched. "What is it?"
"Hold on."
Luther reached out and took her hand.
Bulma's heart started hammering against her ribs. Oh my god, is he going to confess? Is he going to kiss me?
She closed her eyes, puckering her lips slightly—
And then her feet left the ground.
Her stomach dropped. The wind suddenly whipped her hair back.
"Wh-what?!"
Bulma snapped her eyes open.
They weren't on the sidewalk anymore. They were five hundred feet in the air, hovering silently above the Capsule Corp dome. The cars below looked like toys.
Bulma shrieked, clutching Luther's arm with a death grip. "We're... we're flying! How are we flying?! Is this a jetpack? Gravity boots?"
"No tech," Luther said calmly.
He expanded his Biological Field, wrapping it around her like a warm, invisible blanket. The wind stopped buffeting her face. The chill of the altitude vanished. She was floating in a perfect bubble of safety, anchored only by his hand.
Bulma looked down at her feet, dangling in empty air. Then she looked at Luther. He was hovering effortlessly, not straining, not using any device. He looked like he belonged there.
"Luther..." she whispered, her scientific mind short-circuiting. "What are you?"
Luther turned to her, floating against the backdrop of the moon. He looked tragic, noble, and impossibly handsome.
"I'm not from Earth, Bulma," Luther lied—well, partially lied. "I'm a Kryptonian. I come from a civilization far away from here. A world that was destroyed."
"A... Kryptonian?" Bulma blinked, testing the word. "You're an alien?"
"Yes."
Bulma's jaw dropped.
She stared at him. Most girls would be terrified. Most people would call the police or scream for help.
But Bulma Briefs?
She looked at his face. She looked at the city below. She looked at the impossible physics he was defying.
"That is..." Bulma breathed, her eyes sparkling with intense curiosity. "...so cool!"
Luther suppressed a smirk. Gotcha.
"I'm alone here, Bulma," Luther said, playing the "sad, lonely wanderer" card to perfection. "My physiology is different. My genes are... complicated. I'm trying to understand them. I'm trying to unlock my full potential so I can protect... well, everything."
He squeezed her hand gently.
"I need help. I need a genius who can understand biology that isn't from this world. I need someone I can trust with my life."
He looked deep into her eyes.
"Will you help me, Bulma?"
Bulma felt like her heart was going to explode. An alien? A super-powered, tragic, handsome alien who chose her to be his partner? It was like every romance novel she'd ever read, combined with a sci-fi blockbuster.
"I..." Bulma stammered. She gripped his hand back, hard. "I will! I'll help you, Brother Luther! I'll analyze every cell! I'll build whatever you need!"
"Thank you," Luther said softly.
He pulled her closer, just enough to make her blush furiously again, and slowly began to descend back toward the balcony of her bedroom.
Phase One complete, Luther thought. Now, about that Dragon Ball radar...
