Take our dear noseless gentleman, for example. He spent his entire life specializing in the Killing Curse.
As a result, he became increasingly violent.
Turning from a once brilliant Slytherin prodigy into a monstrous state marked a tragic collapse of extraordinary talent into moral and physical ruin.
This transformation was driven by his overly inflated ambition, his obsession with immortality, and his decision to split his soul to create Horcruxes, a process that ultimately damaged and destabilized his mind.
But there was another reason.
The Killing Curse itself.
Why were the three Unforgivable Curses labeled "unforgivable"?
If one only looked at what the spells did, the severity alone did not fully justify the title. What made them truly sinister was the way they affected the caster's mentality.
Day after day, thinking about killing. Thinking about torturing.
If someone like that could still be mentally healthy, that would be the real miracle.
In the past, when Karmit used the Killing Curse, it was simple. He thought of the spell, and it came out.
Now that he knew firm intent could amplify a spell's power, how could he not test it? And that test left him even more confused.
He began to suspect that something about him was… off.
He had always believed he didn't need to think deeply while casting because of the special ability Flitwick mentioned.
But now, it seemed that ability did exist—yet it wasn't the main reason. Because even when he firmly fixed his intent and cast spells, he felt no backlash at all.
Like just now, when he used the Killing Curse. There was no strange sensation in his heart.
Was it because he was indifferent to life? Karmit didn't know.
But one thing was clear.
He was different from others. The most troublesome part was that he didn't know why he was different.
For some reason, Flitwick's words resurfaced in his mind.
Was he really… not human?
Karmit quickly shook his head.
What nonsense.
He was reincarnated at birth. His mother gave birth to him. How could he not be human?
Still… thinking about it now, he seemed to be forgetting what his mother even looked like.
Time really did erase things quietly.
Belinda, who had been standing nearby, saw Karmit frozen in thought. After hesitating, she asked, "Master, should I capture a few more people? Do you need more subjects?"
She had no idea what strange new experiment her master was conducting.
But she was already used to it.
More importantly, she could clearly sense that the Killing Curse Karmit cast was completely different from hers.
That power was excessive.
Karmit shook his head. "No need. Tell me about the past few days instead. Since I entered Hogwarts, has Yaxley made any moves?"
Belinda replied, "Not yet. Perhaps because you've only just entered Hogwarts, Yaxley is still preparing."
Karmit nodded. "Keep watching them. I think Yaxley is planning something big. I'm already looking forward to it."
Belinda smiled. "No matter how big their move is, it won't escape your grasp, Master."
Karmit said, "Alright. I'm heading back to Hogwarts. I've initiated a Chief Challenge in Slytherin. If Yaxley doesn't act within a month, force their hand. Otherwise, it'll affect our follow-up plans."
Belinda nodded. "Yes, Master."
Karmit vanished from the spot.
When he reappeared, he was already in Hogsmeade.
After casting the Disillusionment Charm, he went to Honeydukes and returned to Hogwarts through the secret passage.
Just as he emerged from behind the statue— Vannie, cradled in his arms, lightly scratched his chest.
Karmit's expression changed.
His wand slid into his hand from his sleeve. A Shield Charm formed instantly in front of him.
At the exact moment the shield stabilized, a spell slammed into it.
The shield wavered slightly.
Without hesitation, Karmit flicked his wand, sending a red arc of light into the darkness.
The red spell was deflected immediately.
A burst of flame shot toward him in return.
Using the brief illumination from his own spell, Karmit had already seen who attacked him.
He deflected the flames and said calmly, "Head of House, that's a rather special way of saying hello."
From the darkness, Snape stepped forward.
His shadowed eyes fixed on Karmit. "If I remember correctly, at this hour, you should be in your dormitory, Mr. Black."
Karmit replied, "The stars looked nice tonight, so I went to admire them for a while."
Snape sneered. "Admiring the stars in Hogsmeade? Mr. Black, spare me your little tricks. I've been at Hogwarts for many years. I know its secret passages very well."
Karmit spread his hands. "Of course. I've never doubted your knowledge, Head of House. So what now? Deduct points? Or detention?"
At that, Snape's expression darkened.
"This is the second time today you've tried to threaten me with point deductions, Mr. Black. Do you really think I have no way to deal with you?"
Karmit said, "I believe you misunderstand. I didn't mean that. I only meant that for students, sneaking out at night isn't exactly rare, is it?
And I know you despise the Black family, or rather, certain members of it. But those people have already been expelled from the family. I dislike them just as much as you do.
The Black family now consists of only me. And I am your student."
Snape stared at him for a long moment before speaking. "You are very clever. But cleverness alone is not something you can rely on to survive."
Karmit smiled. "That's right. Which is why you just tested me.
I don't believe I'm important enough to warrant a personal test from you. Is it because of my father, Regulus Black?"
"Yes, you were once comrades.
I always thought Death Eaters would all hate my father, since he was a traitor. It seems that's not entirely true.
So, Head of House… what exactly is your position?"
The moment Karmit finished speaking—Snape was suddenly right in front of him.
His wand pressed against Karmit's throat.
"You know far more than I expected. But haven't you heard the saying? Knowing too much is often not a good thing. It can get you killed."
Karmit's lips curved upward.
There was no panic on his face.
Only calm.
"I understand, Professor. I'll remember your words. But I believe I should return to rest now. After all, I still have classes tomorrow."
