Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: The Longbottoms Recover, and the Daily Prophet Comes Calling

She spoke softly as she carefully fed the potion into her son's mouth.

As soon as the elixir touched Frank's tongue, the pain on his face began to ease.

His spasms slowed, then stopped entirely. His expression softened into peacefulness.

Lady Augusta's eyes widened in shock and joy. Without hesitation, she quickly administered the potion to Alice as well.

The same miracle unfolded.

Alice's tortured struggle came to an end, her face relaxing into serene calm.

The Healer beside them stared in disbelief.

"This… this is impossible!"

He rushed forward, waving his wand over both patients to perform diagnostic scans.

The results left him even more stunned.

"By Merlin's beard! Their magical fluctuations are stabilizing!"

"The trauma to their souls… it's healing!"

"This is more than we've managed in over a decade!"

The Healer's voice trembled. His entire understanding of magical medicine had just been overturned.

He ran scan after scan, muttering nonstop under his breath.

"Incredible… truly incredible…"

"Could you… share the formula for this potion?" he asked, eyes full of desperate hope.

Charlie shot him a deadpan glance. The Healer immediately realized how inappropriate the question sounded.

"My apologies, that was rude of me."

His attitude made a complete one-eighty, his tone now laced with respect.

For a healer, nothing is more sacred than the chance to save patients. And these two, long considered incurable, had just improved thanks to a single bottle of potion. The impact was overwhelming.

"Your potion is… absolutely extraordinary!"

He was so excited that his hands trembled. "And I shouldn't have doubted you earlier. I was way out of line."

He bowed deeply.

"Would you consider selling it to St. Mungo's? We're willing to pay a premium."

Charlie replied flatly, "If the hospital wants to purchase it, they can contact me through Hogwarts."

"But my output is limited."

The Healer nodded eagerly. "Of course, of course! I'll submit a request to the Head Healer right away, we'll make sure you're properly compensated."

The man who had sneered at Charlie earlier now groveled like a boot-licker.

Such is the respect that true strength commands.

Neville stood quietly by, staring at his peacefully sleeping parents, eyes full of emotion.

"Charlie, I… I don't even know how to thank you."

"Don't be silly," Charlie said, clapping him on the shoulder. "We're friends."

Lady Augusta turned her tearful gaze toward Charlie. Her hands trembled as she clutched his.

"Charlie, thank you. Truly, thank you!"

Her tears wouldn't stop, but this time, they were tears of joy.

"You've saved our entire family!"

Charlie winced slightly at her grip, but he understood.

"Please, there's no need for such emotion."

"We'll still have to observe the results, but based on what I'm seeing… the effects look promising."

Augusta nodded over and over.

"Even if it just eases their pain, it's already a blessing."

"Now, how much is this potion? The Longbottom family will never let you suffer a loss. From now on, you're a friend of the family."

Charlie mentally calculated the costs.

The ingredients for the Soul-Healing Elixir weren't cheap. A single batch cost quite a bit, though each brew could yield several bottles. He estimated one bottle cost about three to four Galleons to produce. (A single Galleon could buy an ounce of dragon liver.)

Selling it for ten Galleons seemed fair, right?

He raised a single finger.

Augusta, seeing the gesture, asked tentatively, "A hundred Galleons?"

Charlie was stunned. "No, I, "

Before he could finish, Augusta beamed with delight.

"That's a bargain, Charlie!"

"I'd have paid a thousand Galleons if you'd asked!"

Charlie silently swallowed his explanation.

If they're willing to pay more, why stop them?

Damn these pure-blood families, they really are loaded.

What Charlie didn't realize was that developing a new potion typically required enormous cost.

Research and development, failed batches, ingredient waste, these were all expensive.

So in truth, a hundred Galleons per bottle wasn't unreasonable.

It only seemed like a windfall because Charlie's formula came from the system.

[Your Majesty engages in price gouging. A heartless profiteer. Tyrant Points +5]

Nonsense! It's called fair market pricing!

As night fell, Charlie stayed overnight at the Longbottom estate.

Lady Augusta personally arranged the finest guest room for him and instructed the house-elves to prepare a grand feast.

"Charlie, you've saved our family."

At dinner, she personally served him.

"From this day forward, you are the most honored guest of the Longbottoms."

Neville sat nearby, eyes red from emotion. He'd never felt such peace in his heart before.

Charlie raised his glass. "That's too kind, ma'am. I'm just glad I could help."

The next morning, Charlie prepared to return to Hogwarts.

Lady Augusta decided to purchase two more bottles, just in case.

"Charlie, here's the payment for two more doses."

"I'll send them by owl once I'm back."

Charlie thought of Storm, the lazy owl who'd grown fat from campus comfort. Time he did some work.

Since the Easter holiday was short, Charlie hadn't returned to the orphanage. He'd written a few letters to Mrs. White instead, otherwise she'd scold him the next time they met.

On the final day of break, Neville rushed to find Charlie, waving a copy of the Daily Prophet in his hand.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione followed behind.

"Charlie! Look!"

Neville's voice shook with excitement.

"You're on the front page!"

Charlie took the paper and saw the headline in bold:

"The Longbottoms Regain Sanity, A New Potions Prodigy Is Born!"

The article described the treatment in detail and included a photo of Frank and Alice after recovery.

They looked directly at the camera, smiling peacefully, their eyes clear and focused.

"By Gryffindor's beard…" Ron's eyes went wide.

"Charlie, you're front-page news!"

Harry leaned over. "It says here you're the rising star of the potions world."

Hermione was practically glowing.

"Charlie, do you know what this means?"

"You've overturned a law of magical medicine!"

"Everyone believed that soul injuries from the Cruciatus Curse were irreversible!"

Neville's eyes brimmed with tears again.

"Charlie, I'll never be able to repay you."

Charlie hadn't just given him hope, he'd saved his family. It was life-changing.

He swore to himself then and there: he would follow in Charlie's footsteps forever.

Anyone who opposed Charlie would be his enemy.

Charlie clapped him on the shoulder.

"Just study hard. You can repay me by helping with homework."

Hermione's brows twitched. This wasn't good. Someone was trying to steal her job?

Before she could protest, Harry pointed at the next section of the Daily Prophet.

"Hey, Charlie. It says here a reporter's coming to interview you."
