Even though Mega Evolution wasn't possible yet,
Ash still placed the Charizardite X onto Charizard.
He couldn't Mega Evolve, sure—
But carrying the Mega Stone didn't hurt.
The moment their bond was strong enough,
that would be the day Charizard Mega Evolves.
Suddenly, Ash remembered something.
He turned to Diantha.
"Ms. Diantha, I wanted to ask…
Did Professor Sycamore ever mention that Charizard has two Mega forms?"
"Two… two forms?!"
Diantha froze.
Could Mega Evolution transform into other shapes?
Wasn't Mega Evolution supposed to be one fixed form?
"Two Charizards?!"
Leon's eyes sparkled with starry delight.
More Charizards = paradise.
"A message came with my Keystone and Mega Stone," Ash explained.
"It said Charizard has two forms: X and Y.
The one I got is the Mega Stone for Charizard X.
It becomes Fire/Dragon.
Y stays its original typing.
That's all I know."
Diantha quietly noted it down.
This information was extremely valuable—
Sycamore would be thrilled.
"X and Y… I want to see Mega Charizard as soon as possible!
Ash, when you can Mega Evolve, let's battle!"
"Of course!"
A battle invitation from Rank 1 of the Masters Eight?
Ash couldn't possibly refuse.
**"The Eighth Heavenly Tally is about to begin —
'Mortal Spirits Who Rival the Gods' (Part 6)"**
The ethereal voice echoed.
"Another divine battle?
I was hoping for another embarrassing-history episode…"
Lorelei sighed dramatically.
The screen lit up.
In the video—
Dark clouds blotted out the sky.
Buildings dissolved into purple stardust.
Floating in the air were two colossal Pokémon, locked in a fierce standoff.
One stood upright—
purple body, dark markings, shoulder rings set with pearls,
with two tusk-like horns on its mouth.
The other was quadrupedal,
gem-blue body, metal plating, twin horns,
with a bright sapphire diamond embedded in its chest.
[Cynthia: Huh?! Dialga! Palkia!
Why THEM?!
Is one of them the featured Pokémon this time?!]
She couldn't hide her shock.
Earlier, she compared the Unova dragons to the Sinnoh gods as equals—
primordial beings of opposing forces.
But she didn't expect the very next video
to be about the Twin Gods of Space and Time.
Worse—
Something was very wrong in this scene.
[Alder: Cynthia, this one's yours. Tell everyone about Sinnoh's legends.]
[Cynthia:
The blue one is Dialga — the Pokémon who rules over Time.
Its heartbeat is said to be the pulse of time itself.
It can accelerate, slow, or even stop time…
and move freely between past and future.]
The room fell silent.
Controlling time?!
Traveling to the past and future?!
Compared to elements like lightning or fire…
Time was on a completely different scale.
[Cynthia:
And Palkia governs Space.
It can distort space, travel to different dimensions,
and its presence stabilizes the fabric of space with every breath.]
Also terrifying—
But everyone agreed:
Time sounded scarier.
Unless Palkia could hop into parallel universes,
Dialga's control over the past and future sounded far more overwhelming.
In the sky, purple waves and pink slashes collided explosively.
Every exchange shook the heavens.
Below, the city crumbled faster and faster.
The two gods fought with speed invisible to humans.
Every strike tore reality apart.
They battled far longer than any previous Legendary fight.
But still—
No ultimate finishing moves yet.
And even without them,
the city was nearly gone.
Suddenly—
A cold voice echoed:
"Get… OUT."
A shadowy figure appeared between the two gods.
Black body, white wisp-like hair covering its face,
blue eyes glowing sharply,
a red, collar-like, jagged ring around its neck.
Darkrai.
It thrust out both arms—
and Dark Pulse erupted like twin vortices.
The blast struck both Dialga and Palkia hard enough to make them stagger,
leaving visible wounds.
One attack.
Two gods were injured.
Everyone watching felt their scalp go numb.
[Cynthia: Darkrai?! Why is Darkrai fighting the gods?!]
The chat erupted.
[Grimsley: This thing's AMAZING!
Definitely a Dark-type!
Tell me everything about Darkrai! I want one!!]
[Karen: Elegant, deadly, beautiful.
I want it.]
[Grimsley (Unova):
No.
I want it.
Where do I catch it?!]
All three Dark-type Elite Four members
felt it instantly—
This was the perfect Dark-type Pokémon.
**[Cynthia:
You're all going to be disappointed.
Darkrai has never been seen in the wild—only in myths and the video we just saw.
Its legend says it induces deep sleep and nightmares
to drive intruders from its territory.]**
"In moonless nights, Darkrai brings nightmares."
A Pokémon associated with evil—
even among myths.
Very different from Latios, Regice, Tapu Koko…
who were all revered.
But as Cynthia pointed out—
Nobody knew how much of the legend was true.
The battle intensified.
Dialga and Palkia, enraged that something dared interrupt them,
immediately joined forces to crush Darkrai.
"Get… OUT!"
Darkrai unleashed a barrage of Shadow Balls,
but the gods erected shimmering shields of pink and blue,
absorbing most projectiles.
Dialga's mouth lit up—
a golden sphere—
Draco Meteor.
The sky rained golden meteors.
At the same time, Palkia roared,
firing a massive Dragon Pulse.
Darkrai countered with more Dark Pulses—
canceling many meteors—
But some broke through, striking him.
Then the Dragon Pulse ripped through his defense entirely.
BOOM!!
Darkrai crashed into a forest, disappearing.
With the nuisance gone, the two gods resumed tearing each other apart,
clawing, crashing, rending space itself.
Why were they fighting so viciously?
Cynthia had no idea—
The myths said nothing.
Then— the world shook.
Dialga's chest gem blazed blue.
Palkia's arm pearl glowed purple.
Both began charging their signature moves.
Space buckled.
Time trembled.
"ROOOAAAHH!!"
Dialga unleashed a colossal dark-blue beam—
time itself distorted around it.
Roar of Time.
Palkia unleashed a massive magenta blade of energy—
space rupturing in its wake.
Spacial Rend.
Reality began collapsing.
And then—
A black comet burst from the forest.
"I won't… let you destroy Alicia's home!!"
Darkrai roared.
A pitch-black radiance enveloped its body—
like a living void.
In a heartbeat, Darkrai appeared between the two attacks.
The darkness exploded outward—
forming a black sphere that swallowed everything.
Roar of Time.
Spacial Rend.
Even Dialga and Palkia themselves—
were pulled into the singularity.
Time froze.
The entire picture locked in place.
Everyone held their breath.
The world erupted—
"WHAT?! DARKRAI IS THAT STRONG?!"
"He blocked TWO GOD-TIER SIGNATURE MOVES! ALONE!"
"That's not Elite-level… not even Legendary-level—
That's BEYOND Legendary!!"
**[Cynthia: Impossible!
Darkrai is a Mythical Pokémon—
at best equivalent to second-tier Legendary status!
He shouldn't be able to fight BOTH gods!]**
[Grimsley: I want him more now.]
[Karen: Same.]
[Grimsley (Unova): Mine.]
**[Champion Leon: Darkrai's usual limit might be second-tier Legendary…
But the will to protect someone
can push a Pokémon far beyond its natural bounds.]**
**[Steven Stone: Not the city—
He's protecting someone important to him.
A girl named Alicia.
A bond like that… can surpass even gods.]**
Darkrai's performance stunned the world.
Not only did it overturn the myth of an evil nightmare-bringer—
It became proof:
The bond between humans and Pokémon
can create miracles.
Even a Mythical can stand against gods.
Darkrai's strength, design, and character
won over nearly the entire world.
That day—
90% of humanity became Darkrai fans.
