Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 — The Vanishing “They” (Happy Family)

The transmigrator had chosen to help the Sound trio.

Did that mean they were hostile to Konoha—an enemy faction out to kill Team 7?

Sakura caught the implication instantly, but before she could think further, Zaku raised both hands high, holes in his palms exposed, face twisted with malice.

"Zankūha!"

The air in front of him warped visibly, a brutal pressure wave roaring toward Sakura.

Boom!

Sakura shattered into pieces—then turned into a puddle of water.

"A clone?!" Zaku's scalp went numb.

He saw Dosu get bound by Lee's bandages and driven into the ground like a drill!

Zaku cursed. He dove forward, but a gust snapped behind his skull. He ducked—barely dodging Sakura's real body swinging a lethal punch.

If that hit landed square, his head would've burst open on the spot.

Ding-ling~

A crisp bell sound rang out.

Sakura turned—

Kin was charging straight at Lee and Dosu.

Sakura's eyelid jumped. She hadn't expected this twist.

Her thoughts raced: Because I pinned Zaku harder than canon, the plot shifted—so Kin moved too?

In the original, the Sound trio had suppressed Sakura so hard that Kin never found an opening. She only yanked Sakura's hair a bit and indirectly helped her escape.

Sakura started to intercept—

But the scenery warped. In an instant, Kin was right in front of her.

"Zaku!" Kin shouted, throwing a storm of senbon at Sakura.

Genjutsu!

Sakura's mouth twitched. She flickered away, then sprinted at Zaku. In that split second, Zaku jabbed his hand into the ground, sending loose soil surging toward the spot where Dosu was dropping.

"Come on…!" Zaku shouted through clenched teeth, but the bell rang again. His vision spun with dizziness.

Sakura reached his back and raised a punch meant to make his head "not there" anymore—

But she saw double. She couldn't tell which head was real.

Too late.

BOOM!!

BOOM!!

Two blasts erupted.

One from Lee's side—Dosu had barely escaped, his head landing in softened soil with only light injuries.

The other from Sakura's side—Zaku flew backward, chest caved in, vomiting blood. Red sludge splashed across Sakura's face.

The iron-rust stench hit her nose, making her stomach lurch. She steadied herself fast, grabbing Lee and pulling him back to avoid Dosu's counterattack.

This exchange let Dosu live… but taking Zaku out of the fight was still a win.

She did feel a little sorry for Shino, though—canon Shino had made his cool entrance by stepping on Zaku. With Zaku down early, Shino's screen time might shrink even more.

"Lee, catch your breath. I'll handle these two." Sakura shoved the stubborn Lee back. He wanted to keep fighting, but her grip was absurdly strong. He could only retreat to recover.

As expected of Sakura… the woman I chose, Lee thought happily.

Sakura scanned the area again, staring at Dosu and Kin with a deeper unease.

Why wasn't the transmigrator acting?

If they were hostile, this was the perfect window to strike while Team 7 was split. Yet all they'd done was toss notes and harass.

Sakura tried to think like them.

If it were her, she'd have killed Sakura during that lunge at Zaku—or looped around to execute Sasuke from behind. Sure, she'd need time to navigate traps, but still.

They'd thrown away a golden chance.

That could only mean they had some restraint—or some other reason they couldn't move.

Maybe Orochimaru disallowed them from harming Sasuke directly? Then why not target her?

Too little data. Sakura shelved it and focused on the fight.

Just then, Sasuke's body exploded with thick purple smoke. His eyelids fluttered hard—he was about to wake.

Now Konoha's advantage is only going to grow. So what will you do? Sakura tensed. She felt it in her bones: something unexpected would happen right as Sasuke woke.

"Really impressive technique," Dosu snarled, glaring at Sakura and Lee, fear and rage barely contained.

With a single exchange, Zaku was ruined…

Dosu rolled up his sleeve again to unleash his attack—

A moment later, Sakura slammed a straight punch into the ground.

Bang!

Cracks spiderwebbed through the earth, disrupting Dosu's footing. At the same time, flames flickered under his feet.

Landmines—Sakura was manually triggering the buried charges.

BOOOOM!!

Within a few breaths the battlefield was shredded, greenery erased, only ash-gray soil and dust left behind.

Dosu's footsteps grew clearer in the haze. Sakura hurled boulders into the air, shattered them with punches, and sprayed the fragments at him like shrapnel.

She knew better than to engage Dosu head-on. She kept distance, searched for openings.

Dosu blasted the shards away with the holes in his arm, but Sakura broke rocks so fast he had to burn more chakra to pulverize everything around him.

A grinding stalemate.

Both of them looked worse by the second.

This wasn't about skill anymore—it was stamina.

Either Dosu ran out of chakra, or Sakura ran out of strength.

And that favored Sakura. Sasuke waking was only a matter of time. Tenten and Neji were probably closing in too. Trading exhaustion was fine.

Back in her old life, Sakura had a Souls-game trick: strip down to pure HP gear, face-tank the boss, never roll, just trade hits and guzzle flasks—"all-damage flow." Win by sheer reserves.

As the stalemate peaked, the bell rang again. Both fighters swayed briefly.

"I knew you'd use this trick, but so what? I'm still on top—"

Before he could finish, Sakura froze dead still.

The bell stopped too.

She stared blankly at Dosu.

Dosu stared back—

At the sudden, searing pain blooming in his chest.

He looked down.

A kunai, black blood dripping, had burst out through his chest.
