Chapter 3 - Sir Rylan

As a Crown Prince, he has never lacked anything since birth. His status was far above anyone in the current era, someone destined to rule such a massive and powerful empire.

What was more, he also presented as a dominant alpha. One that could be considered genetically on top of the food chain.

He could basically do anything or get whatever he wanted, and people would never bat an eyelid, especially within the borders of the empire where the royal family reigned supreme for generations.

Savier could be considered superior in every way. If someone were to look at him from another perspective, they might think that he never felt inferior to anyone.

That made sense, and Savier could confidently agree with them. Savier never flaunted his own superiority, but never acted reserved either. He was aware of his privilege.

There was only one he could acknowledge aside from his family.

That was Rylan Wever.

Someone he had long admired since he was a kid. At some point in his life, Savier aspired to be like Rylan. A handsome alpha who was talented with everything he did. Good at any type of sports, excelled academically, and was acknowledged to be the best in the military.

Someone recognized even by the emperor, who awarded the then 12-year-old Rylan as the youngest honorary royal guard. Though he was a commoner, he could access any type of facilities in the barracks and would enjoy a scholarship throughout his studies.

He was so amazing that his name was renowned and famous throughout the empire.

Rylan was the idol of aspiring royal guards, be they were ordinary citizens or nobles. And Savier was no different.

He admired Rylan for years, watched him practice guns or spar with others. In his young age and even his teens, Rylan was a huge part of it.

However, when he started college, he did not have the time to admire the alpha from afar or get updated on the news about him. Savier had to focus on his studies and prepare for future duties.

Now, seeing him in front of him, Savier found himself being lightheaded. In his years of admiring Rylan, he had never met him personally. He was actually content to look at his idol from afar.

For one, he did not want to burden the other with the weight of knowing the crown prince. This was not good, especially in his initial days as a royal guard.

Savier even thought that this would be the case forever. Maybe they could see each other in official events, but being closed like this? He had no expectations.

This truly caught him off guard.

Fortunately, his years of royal studies helped, and he managed to gather his thoughts. His expression also quickly returned to one with calmness as if the momentary pause earlier was like an illusion.

He swallowed and maintained a calm demeanor as he gestured for them to sit. It was actually already late, but he just hoped that Sir Rylan was not offended, and he did not bust his first impression.

"I apologize for my behavior earlier. It's just... I'm still sleep-deprived." Savier spoke as he watched them take a seat. It took a lot of his power not to close his eyes and curse at that weak excuse.

Whether they believed him or not, they could only nod. Based on their expressions, it seemed they really had no time to dwell on that, and they were more preoccupied with the meeting with him.

Under the pretext of observing them, Savier glanced at Sir Rylan again, who looked as nervous despite his calm demeanor. It was the way he clasped his hands and the occasional licking of his lips.

Savier marveled at seeing him this close. He looked even more handsome up close. The royal guard uniform emphasized the authority he held, but he did not look intimidating. Not in a bad way. Instead, he appeared amiable and easy to talk to. Of course, if they underestimated him based on this, then they were finished.

His features were soft, unlike typical alphas. And Savier bet his pheromones might exhibit this as well.

Suddenly, Savier shook his head slightly, realising his thoughts were becoming haywire. What am I thinking? Pheromones? Where did that come from?

This was an important meeting!

Savier swallowed then tried not to get sidetracked again.

Aware that they would not talk first, he started the conversation again. This time, he stared at the person on the far left, the other end opposite where Sir Rylan was. He did not want to get distracted again.

"Royal Father already informed me about all of you. And while I trust my father, you all will be with me from here on out and serve me. So..." Savier, about to glance at the far right again, stopped and stuck his gaze to the left. "I hope we all get along."

Fuck. Savier went blank, all of the things he was about to say went up in smoke, and he forgot them. He planned to be more strict, but... no way he could do that now, even as a pretense.

"First, introduce yourselves."

Really, Savier? What was this, the first class of the school year?

Though he felt embarrassed, the four's expression did not change, and they only thought of it as a natural process. Being the Crown Prince's guard was an important post, after all. They even thought that, even after meeting the Crown Prince, this position was not yet secure.

The first that introduced was the person on the left, the one used as his distraction. He was Kyle, then Lam, and Geronimo. Savier still listened and nodded.

Then the most important one. Savier naturally glanced to the side, maintaining a small smile.

"This humble one's name is Rylan Wever, Your Highness." He saluted and bowed. His voice was clear as it lingered in his ears. He was neither loud nor soft, and gave an impression that it was just right.

Even his voice gave off that sense of amiability, one that could calm you.

For a moment, their eyes touched when Rylan raised his head, and Savier was still looking at him. This time, he did not evade his gaze. The two stared at each other before Rylan snapped out of it and bowed his head.

Savier blinked and licked his lips.

They are wrong. His pupil's shade was blue-gray. A perfect pair of mysterious eyes befitting of Sir Rylan indeed.
