Chapter 2 - The First Spark

The campus felt alive in a way Jane had never imagined. Students bustled between classes, laughter and conversations weaving a tapestry of life that made her both nervous and exhilarated. She clutched her textbooks closer, scanning the signs to find her first lecture hall.

Her mind wandered back to the boy she had bumped into. He had a name, she remembered Lucas. It was strange, how one fleeting moment could linger in her thoughts. She shook her head. Focus, Jane, she told herself. This is just the first day.

By mid-morning, Jane had found her footing. The lectures were challenging, yes, but they sparked a fire in her she hadn't known existed. She scribbled notes furiously, her curiosity pushing her to ask questions even when her voice trembled.

During a short break, she stepped outside the lecture hall and found herself under a tree, leaning against the trunk, trying to catch her breath. That's when she saw him again Lucas. He waved, and for a moment, Jane froze, unsure whether to approach or run. But his smile was patient, inviting, and something inside her nudged forward.

"Hey, you're in my Environmental Science class, right?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.

Jane nodded, surprised that he remembered. "Yeah… I'm Jane."

"Lucas. Nice to officially meet you." He paused, glancing at her stack of books. "You seem… serious about this stuff."

"I guess I am," Jane admitted, a small smile forming. "I like learning things that actually make sense."

He laughed lightly, a sound that made her feel a little lighter too. "Good answer. I like people who want more than just grades."

They fell into an easy conversation, discussing the lecture, their favorite topics, even the little annoyances of campus life. Jane realized how rare it felt to speak to someone who listened without judgment, who didn't assume or dismiss her.

Hours passed, and before she knew it, the sun began to dip low. Students streamed out of the buildings, laughing and chatting. Lucas walked beside her toward the exit.

"So… would you like to study together sometime?" he asked casually, though Jane detected a flicker of hope in his eyes.

Her heart fluttered. "I… I'd like that," she said, her voice steadier than she expected.

As they parted ways, Jane felt a warmth in her chest she hadn't felt before. It wasn't just excitement for her studies it was the realization that maybe, just maybe, she wasn't alone in this new chapter of her life.

That night, lying in her small dorm bed, Jane thought of the day's events. The campus had felt intimidating at first, but now it felt like a place where she could grow, learn, and perhaps find connections that mattered.

Her journey was far from over. Challenges would come, as they always did. But for the first time, Jane felt a spark not only of hope for her future but of something deeper, something that whispered that life might just be ready to surprise her.

And somewhere deep inside, she knew that spark was only the beginning.
