After leaving Emily Thomas's apartment, I returned to the top floor of my own high-rise apartment, where I could overlook a large portion of Summit City and the urban landscape of Crimson Riverfront.
Soon, a manager from the property firm personally came up to give me a form, saying, "This is a list of residents who have moved in over the past three years. Fearful of you not trusting our property firm to handle the property, all the data is available for viewing. The boss highly values your business here, Mr. Curry, as no other boss has dared to entrust such a large apartment complex in Summit City to us."
I took a drag on my cigarette and nodded, "I don't intend to take it back, don't be nervous."
The manager of the intermediary property firm breathed a sigh of relief.
"I just want you to withdraw the rental information for the top floor; I'll be living in Summit City from now on, and I'll use this top floor myself."
"I thought you were planning to cancel your cooperation with us, Mr. Curry." The manager was startled.
I chuckled, "I don't want to deal with the hassle. Just inform the guests living on the top floor and negotiate with them to see if they can move."
The manager of the intermediary property firm said, "That's no problem. Right now, it's particularly hard to find a house in Summit City, especially those near The Sterlingwood Bank. They're very coveted. Even if one or two tenants break the lease, new tenants would gladly pay the penalty to move in."
I nodded, "Thank you for the trouble."
"It's no trouble. If there are any issues, Mr. Curry, you can call me on this number." The manager smiled as he handed me a business card before leaving the balcony.
After flicking my cigarette ash, I took the introduction letter to report at the Summit City Police Station.
Given Tobby's experience in the army, he could have been placed in a government job if he decided to fully retire, so his instructor suggested he become a police officer in the Summit City Police Department.
After reading my introduction letter, the chief did not make things difficult for or test me and instead had a district police instructor lead me to receive my uniform.
"Here are your credentials, your badge number is M8757, and from now on, you'll follow me to The Sterlingwood Bank area," the instructor handed me the work outfit and credentials.
I nodded, "Instructor, please take care of me in the future."
"Ah, just be clever in our area, it's not like other places," the instructor sighed, "Before issuing a gun permit, just follow the other colleagues during the day to patrol and get familiar. Oh, by the way, are you familiar with the roads in Summit City?"
"Although I've been away for three years, I'm a native of Summit City, so I naturally know them."
"Oh, the changes are big in three years. Haven't you seen how the country's progress changes year after year, especially in our big city of Summit City, the national financial center? It's different every day. There are countless fortune seekers working here, and the city's population is huge. All kinds of people are here; the lawsuits are overwhelming, with a mix of good and bad people, and you'll encounter a lot of various situations, especially at night. It is The Neon District, so the job is divided into 24 hours, and even though it's exhausting, the policies and benefits in Summit City naturally have corresponding advantages. Work hard, it's relatively easy to get good results in Summit City, with plenty of room for advancement, so a bit of hard work is nothing."
I nodded.
Once I changed into that police uniform, I looked in the mirror and grinned, "Anyway, it's all for the country and the people. Now, the C Level skills can only be honed in the police station, and when I reach A Level, it will be my time to join The Griffin Division."
After putting on my hat and tidying up a bit, I came to their district hall where the instructor told me, "For the next two days, you'll handle internal duties, answer calls in the station and make reports for other colleagues on patrol to handle."
I nodded, "Alright."
Just then, people from the police station came over for the shift handover to start working. After being introduced by the instructor, I greeted them and got to know the colleagues in this district. Meanwhile, a security officer from last night's night shift, clearly tired, emerged from the lounge with a bruised face and complained, "Instructor, I want to take leave today."
The instructor frowned and pondered for a while before asking, "Who will cover your night shift patrol?"
"Anyone can do it; I'm fed up," the police officer was evidently emotional, "Why don't I take the day shift instead?"
"How could that be? Your Crimson Riverfront area is already a key patrol spot. Who will cover if you take leave?" The instructor angrily glanced at the others, "Who wants to cover his night shift?"
The four or five of them shook their heads vigorously.
The officer on leave pointed to his face and said, "Look, these people openly assault police, causing trouble all the time. Last night, the complaint calls didn't stop. When I intervened in a few incidents, I got beaten up like this. Some even told me to get lost from the station since I can't stay here any longer. Just because they have money doesn't mean they're above everyone else!"
The instructor sighed, patted his shoulder, and said, "You've worked hard, but you know the young people's temper nowadays is fiery, there's nothing to be done. This society always has people of low quality who won't listen to reason, wait a few days until the director and headquarters allocate more personnel to share the workload."
It's clear that this officer still had some lingering fears, but seeing the situation as a hot potato with no one else wanting to take his shift, it suggests that The Neon District in Summit City is somewhat unruly.
At this point, I said, "Why don't I take over for him?"
The security colleague with the bruised face lit up slightly, "Instructor, since someone can cover for me, let me temporarily work the day shift."
"No, I just reported today. I'm not familiar with the district yet. Let me handle internal affairs for now." The instructor frowned.
"Anyway, I really need to go to the hospital for this injury; it really hurts, and I don't feel well. I need a shot."
"Instructor, it's okay. Anyway, I'll eventually be managing security, going sooner or later doesn't make a difference. I'll cover his night shift." I said loudly.
The bruised-face colleague felt touched and came over to pat me on the shoulder, "Brother, once I'm better, I'll treat you to a late-night snack."
I smiled and then looked towards the instructor, saying, "I'm familiar with Summit City, it's fine. Besides, I won't be patrolling alone, right? There will be other colleagues helping. During special times, we have to deal with it specially."
"Alright then." The instructor stopped concerning himself with the matter but still gave some reminders to the sharper night shift security officers, "Keep an eye on me; I'm new and don't understand much."
Other night shift colleagues nodded.
Once the instructor and the night shift staff left for sleeping or eating, I sat in the backyard smoking a cigarette. At this time, an internal staff from the white shift came over, giving me a strange look, "Tobby, are you pretending to be silly or actually silly? In Summit City, a city where every inch of land is gold, all kinds of people exist. To be honest, these folks work during the day or play the role of good children at home, but at night, they show their true colors. Anyone with money or power here is not someone our low-level officers can afford to offend. The night shift is hard work for little reward, and I don't know what you're thinking, rushing to take the night shift."
