Chapter 17 - Go Ahead And Try Me

It's a real pity that this lawyer didn't go into face-changing.

I smiled slightly: "Not selling."

The lawyer curled his lips: "One million, don't push it."

"Just now, I let you walk away, yet you still want to mess with me? Now I've changed my mind. No one is allowed to leave. Until the 15 days are up, no one gets out. Aren't you going to sue? Go ahead. With the evidence I have, our firm has a clear conscience."

The lawyer's face looked as comical as someone with constipation.

Young Master Lopez's group wanted desperately to come out of the iron cell to ask what was going on. The faces of the lawyers looked a bit awkward. Young Master Lopez called his lawyer over and asked, "What's happened? He's still daring us; let's sue him until he goes bankrupt!"

The lawyer smiled bitterly and whispered, "Young Master Lopez, this morning we tried to buy off those who deleted the videos, but he had already made a copy. Now he has both the video and audio, which are damaging to you. With this evidence, his law enforcement becomes legitimate. Suing him won't work, and if he insists on holding you, we have no chance of winning."

Young Master Lopez's expression changed slightly. The other wealthy heirs beside him were all wide-eyed. Someone immediately wanted to step out of the already-opened iron cell, but who would have thought I would kick the door shut?

"I've given you the chance. Not leaving is your problem. Come back in 15 days to pick up your people." I spoke while locking the door.

A few of the wealthy heirs inside panicked, "Dare you lock us up?"

"Go ahead and try me!" I lifted my head to look at them with determination on my face. "You kept saying I wouldn't dare beat you, so I did. You said I wouldn't dare arrest you, and now you're in my iron cell. Now try me, see if I dare keep you for 15 days?"

Young Master Lopez took a deep breath, attempting to calm his tone and attitude. He said, "Can we talk?"

I: "Talk about what?"

Young Master Lopez: "Let us out, and there will be a good reward."

I smiled at them for a while, then said, "Sorry, I became a cop not to save criminals but to bring them to justice. Even if the lawyer offered one million, or even ten million, it's not up for discussion."

After saying that, I pulled the new lock's key out, stuffed it into my bag, and then turned around and left.

The young heirs inside roared angrily, "Adam't go! Get us out now!"

The lawyers surrounded me, their faces bearing threats, "Do you believe you could end up in court for this?"

I dismissively replied, "Do you believe if you continue to disrupt our work here, I'll lock you up too? Be aware; the people you're trying to bail out are all criminals. If you insist on bailing them out, sorry, I can only lock you up too. Adam't doubt me."

The lawyers saw my face turn serious, each took a step back, gulped, and after exchanging glances and a short discussion, could only go into the iron cell to consult with their clients.

I ignored them, turned around, and left the precinct, as I still needed some shut-eye.

Behind me, I heard the rich brats cursing me furiously. I turned and said, "There are surveillance cameras here. Be careful; your insults might make you stay a few more days."

Then, the rich brats shut up miserably, especially Young Master Lopez, who clutched the iron bars tightly. Had they not caused trouble, they could have been out today, but wanting to show up this small-time cop got them justly detained.

The lawyers having failed to negotiate with Tobby Curry, The Iron Rooster, could only seek out the head of the office, who coldly hummed, "Sorry, I know nothing about this."

The instructor was also prepared to leave. As he turned, he clenched his fist and loudly said, "Great!"

A few police officers working were impatiently dismissing the lawyers, "Alright, bail meeting time is over, depart now, don't obstruct our work. Come back in 15 days for pickup."

After the lawyers were all shooed away, the young heirs in the cell were left utterly miserable, "If I'd known, I'd have left earlier. Now we're stuck here for 15 days, and it'll be humiliating when we get out. First time I've been detained, and it's by a cop I can't even contest against. This is insane!"

Young Master Lopez bit his teeth in anger after hearing his friends' complaints, "Adam't worry, once we're out, it'll be that bastard's unlucky day!"

The lawyers, without any solutions, could only seek assistance from the fathers of the young heirs.

Whether or not they pulled strings to release them wasn't my concern. After dismissing the lawyers, I returned to my apartment. Upon entering, I saw Brittany Scott working on documents in the elevated leisure area, while Elizabeth Campbell was exposing her long white legs while doing her nails. Apparently, she hadn't noticed her skirt had fallen, revealing her thighs. As she instinctively saw me looking, she froze, then immediately gave me a glare and quickly covered up with the skirt.

"What are you looking at?" Elizabeth Campbell huffed.

I said, "If you're afraid of being looked at, then don't stay here. This is why I said living together as a man and woman is inconvenient."

Elizabeth Campbell said, "I don't ask for much; I can even pay the breach penalty and rent. But I'm used to living here, and I don't want to move. Plus, I often travel globally, and I'm not often in Summit City, so my time here isn't frequent. You don't need to worry. This place is so big, what's wrong with renting me a few rooms?"

I nodded, extending my hand: "Money."

Elizabeth Campbell glared, angrily saying, "You're serious?"

Other wealthy suitors would throw money at her, no question. This guy's something else!

I remained unmoved, my hand still outstretched.

Elizabeth Campbell pursed her lips, pointed at Brittany Scott: "Why don't you charge her?"

"Her salary isn't that high, and she's agreed to handle the house chores. Can you do that? If you can, then fine, no charge." I said.

This wasn't about money; it was about a man having the audacity to charge a beauty. It completely undermined Elizabeth Campbell's allure. She gritted her teeth, taking several stacks of hundred-dollar bills from her bag and placed them in Tobby Curry's hand.

After counting the money, I went to my room.

As she watched his back, Elizabeth Campbell practically felt like she could shoot him with a hidden weapon.

Brittany Scott casually commented from the corner, "The beauty trap doesn't work on him; I've tried it."

The reason for her anger seemed to be seen through by Brittany Scott, which made Elizabeth Campbell protest, "I don't believe there's a man who can ignore me! From successful businessmen to princes of multinational noble families, there are men chasing me. Yet today, a man dared openly ask me for rent! I'm going to teach him a lesson."

Brittany Scott laughed, "I tried it yesterday too. I enlisted the best fighter from the precinct, and after getting beaten by him, they started questioning their life choices."
