Chapter 8 - Friend

Brandon and Jhonatan ran nonstop, dodging the bears and wolves that were trying to attack them. As they ran, an anaconda leaped from a tree branch toward them.

- "JHONATAN, WATCH OUT!" shouted Brandon.

Jhonatan quickly jumped forward to dodge the attack. The anaconda crashed to the ground, making it rumble for a few seconds.

- "SHIT!" said Jhonatan as he got up from the ground and ran again alongside Brandon.

Elsewhere, Terrmomix and Cesar kept running until the anaconda—easily ten meters long—caught up to them.

- "We're going to have to fight, Terrmomix—get ready!" said Cesar as he drew his katana.

Terrmomix also drew his weapon, while feeling a group of more anacondas approaching just a few meters away.

The anaconda struck first, lunging with a powerful bite toward them. Both men dodged quickly, jumping to either side.

- "TERRMOMIX! GO FOR ITS NECK!" shouted Cesar.

Terrmomix pushed off a log to leap up and reach its neck, but the anacondas were smarter now. It ducked down and attacked Terrmomix from below while he was vulnerable in mid-air.

Before the anaconda could bite him, Cesar managed to throw his katana and drive it into the creature's eye, making it thrash in pain. Terrmomix fell next to Cesar.

- "SHIT—how are we going to kill it?!" said Cesar.

- "I don't know, but I can feel more anacondas like this one approaching. We have to kill it fast and get out of here," said Terrmomix.

- "FUCK—I have no idea how to kill it!" said Cesar.

The anaconda recovered and attacked again. They dodged, but its tail struck Cesar, sending him crashing into a huge boulder.

- "CESAR!" SHOUTED TERRMOMIX.

Terrmomix was now alone against the anaconda. He charged first— the creature snapped at him repeatedly, but Terrmomix dodged each attack while slashing at its body, though his cuts barely made a mark.

He managed to reach its neck, but it was useless without someone to distract the anaconda. The creature lunged to finish him off; Terrmomix closed his eyes, thinking it was over—until a deep cut appeared on the back of the anaconda's neck, causing it severe damage.

- "FUCKING ANACONDA—WE'LL KILL YOU!" It was Cesar, who had gotten up and retrieved his katana from the ground where it had fallen out of the creature's eye.

Terrmomix didn't waste time—he kept attacking, delivering another large slash to the front of its neck. The anaconda thrashed and roared in pain as Terrmomix fell to the ground again.

- "CESAR, WE'RE GOING TO CUT ITS NECK TOGETHER—YOU FROM BEHIND, ME FROM THE FRONT! NOW!" shouted Terrmomix as he charged once more.

- "Yeah—let's go, Terr!" said Cesar as he followed him.

- "TERRMOMIX! TRY TO CUT IT AT THE SAME TIME AS ME!" shouted Cesar.

The fight raged on. After frantic attacks from both the anaconda and the two students, it ended with a single coordinated slash from Terrmomix and Cesar.

They managed to cut off the anaconda's head with their simultaneous strike. The head fell to the ground, and the students collapsed too, exhausted.

- "F… FUCK…" said Cesar, clutching a wound in his stomach with a pained expression.

Terrmomix spat blood from his mouth as he tried and failed to stand up.

- "W… We have to… get out of here… more are… coming…" said Terrmomix, wincing from his injuries.

- "We need to hide nearby—we can't go far with these wounds," said Cesar as he struggled to his feet and helped Terrmomix up, supporting him against his shoulder.

- "Y… Yeah… let's go…" said Terrmomix as they walked with what little strength they had left to find shelter.

Marco and Ben kept holding their ground until they could take no more, then fled through a window in the opposite direction of the bears and wolves.

As they ran, Ben turned to see the wild animals burst in and destroy the shelter they had built.

Distracted, an anaconda appeared beside Ben with its mouth open to strike. Marco pulled Ben's arm as he ran, quickly moving them away from the creature.

- "DON'T GET DISTRACTED!" shouted Marco.

Ben barely processed what had happened, then kept running nonstop, focusing ahead.

From above, in the trees, more anacondas were waiting. When they spotted the pair, they sprayed a green liquid from their fangs toward them—but the students luckily dodged it.

Marco noticed the liquid hit the ground, watching as it seeped in and dissolved the grass. He thought to himself in shock: "Acid? They can spray acid from their fangs? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"

They kept running, trying to get as far away as possible without stopping.

Terrmomix and Cesar managed to take shelter in a spot that was safe for the moment—but they knew the wild animals would find them eventually, and they'd have to run again.

Time passed, and dawn drew closer. At sunset, the fiercest animals would hide, and by the end of the day the boys could head back—so they just had to hold on a little longer.

With just minutes left until dawn, Terrmomix and Cesar were found by the anacondas. They had no choice but to flee. "Just a few more minutes," they thought as they ran through the trees.

Everything was going well—they were pulling away from the anacondas—until… an anaconda leaped from a tree branch toward Cesar. It didn't manage to bite him, but acid sprayed from its fangs, hitting Cesar in the stomach.

Cesar fell to the ground as the acid burned through his skin, struggling to breathe and sweating profusely as his strength faded. Terrmomix rushed over to pick him up and carry him away, not knowing what to do.

Dawn finally broke, and the wild anacondas began to hide, stopping their pursuit. Terrmomix was in a panic, unsure what to do.

- "E… Easy… I'll get you to the cabin fast… no—better straight to the hospital…" he said in a broken voice, not knowing which way to go. His breath was short, and his mind couldn't process everything to act quickly.

- "I… It doesn't matter anymore… put me down, Terrmomix… there's nothing you can do…" said Cesar, his voice barely a whisper as the acid spread inside him, tearing his stomach open further.

Tears welled in Terrmomix's eyes as he ran in a direction he wasn't sure was right.

- "NO! Easy—I… I'll find a way! Just hold on, please!" said Terrmomix, never stopping his run.

Seeing Terrmomix's effort, Cesar simply smiled and slipped from his arms to fall to the ground.

Terrmomix stopped immediately to pick him up again, but Cesar wouldn't let him.

- "I can't anymore, Terr… I won't survive… I'm sorry…" said Cesar slowly as blood began to seep from his mouth.

Terrmomix froze at the sight of Cesar's critical condition, trying to do everything he could as his mind refused to accept what was happening.

- "Hold on, Cesar—I'll do something! Just HOLD ON, PLEASE!" said Terrmomix, his hands trembling over Cesar's wound.

- "F… Fuck… it hurts… I won't make it, Terr… Shit… so many things I still had to do…" said Cesar, accepting reality. His vision was growing blurrier by the second, kept only conscious by immense pain.

- "NO! YOU'LL LIVE—HANG ON! DON'T YOU DARE LEAVE ME LIKE THIS! NOT LIKE THIS!" Tears streamed uncontrollably down his face as harsh reality hit Terrmomix.

- "I… I don't want to suffer anymore… please… kill me, Terr… please…" said Cesar through the pain.

- "NO… I can't… I don't want to… no…" He shook his head, refusing to do it. He didn't want to kill his own friend, but he couldn't bear to see him suffer either.

- "Ple… please, Terr… it's all I ask… please…" The pain wouldn't let Cesar die peacefully, and his body still resisted death—even though he knew survival was impossible.

After several minutes of hesitation, Terrmomix finally agreed through his tears. Cesar gave him one last gentle smile.

- "Come on, Terr… do it…" said Cesar softly.

Sobbing uncontrollably, Terrmomix raised his katana, pointing the tip at Cesar's heart.

- "Go on your way… I hope you're happy with Vexana and the others…" Cesar's final words were spoken through tears, in a low, gentle voice.

With trembling hands, after a moment's pause, Terrmomix finally drove the katana into Cesar's heart, killing him quickly. He collapsed onto Cesar's body and wept without stopping, ignoring everything around him.

A small anaconda approached, drawn by Cesar's body and Terrmomix's vulnerability—but in the blink of an eye, its head fell to the ground. No one moved in that moment… or perhaps only for a second, as Terrmomix's hand moved.

The sun rose higher and higher. After a while, Terrmomix stood up—his body weak and covered in wounds, but that didn't matter. He was shattered inside; he had killed his own friend. Taking slow, small steps, he began walking toward the cabin, leaving his friend Cesar's body behind.
