Seeing Vincent standing there in front of her desk, Cecilia felt her heart skip, not in a good way.
Aiming at getting up, her head made contact with her table with a hard thud.
"Owww." She winced, moving away and standing up straight. Finally diverting her attention to Vincent who still hadn't said anything, she began bitting her inner cheek
"Good morning." She greeted but he didn't give her a response as usual.
"Why are you here?" His question was direct and straight to the point as he stared sharply at her.
She tried to speak, just like she and planned out in her head if she were to come in contact with him. But right there at that moment, she couldn't seem to make out anything whatsoever. Her mind has gone completely blank.
"Are you deaf?"
"Um…" she cleared her throat. "My apologies sir." She bowed her head slightly before looking back at him.
"Well? That dosen't still answer my question." His tone was the same as it had always been — rude. It was as if the dinner she had at his place and the news of them being engaged was completely wiped out of existence.
The person before her wasn't just Vincent Quinn but her rude and heartless boss.
"Well I…" she was immediately cut off rudely as Vince raised his hand in the air to inform her to stop speaking.
"I don't care to stand here and listen to your pathetic excuses." He said, turning away from her desk, "find your way to my office."
With that, he walked towards his office and entered it before shutting the door behind him. Cecilia felt like she deserved a mental face slap for the rubbish she had displayed a few minutes ago. Why exactly would she still be getting nervous over his presence? It's not that she worked for him anymore
But forgetting that, the aura that exuded from him each time was so domineering and intimidating. It'll practically have everyone down on theri knees if possible.
Looking at the door where Vince had just disappeared into, Cecilia took in deep breaths, mouthing a silent prayer first before heading towards the door.
It felt like she was going to have a meeting with the devil in his Lair and the thought made her palm go sweaty.
Reaching the door, she placed a gentle knock against it. Why exactly did she need to knock again he knew she would be the one outside the door.
"Come in."
With that, Cecilia pushed the door open and stepped into his office. The room was bright and airy, light, simple yet elegant interior adored the place. Sometimes Cecilia wondered what it would be like to have an office like this all by herself.
She has been into his office several times as per the fact that she was his PA, but even a month wouldn't be enough for her to stop admiring the place.
"Tell me when you're done." Vince's voice immediately said, his voice curt and unwavering which pulled Cecilia attention back and if possible, her face would turn red from embarrassment.
She knew well enough that he didn't mean that in a good and she quickly left her admirations and made her way closer to his desk.
The first thing that got her hooked the moment she got near was the scent that wafted off him. He smelled amazing, he always did and that was one things Cecilia had always admired about him. She watched him quietly as he signed through a set of papers, his hands flipping through the pages in a delicate manner as he moved to loosen his tie slightly.
The sight was indeed something for Cecilia who was watching it.
"Are you ready to tell me now what brought you here?" He finally asked, his head and eyes stuck to the pages of the files before him as he spoke to her.
"Well sir, um..I just thought I should come hand over your documents within my possession back to you." She explained to him.
He didn't say anything in response, it almost seemed as if no one was talking at all.
"I see." He paused in his signing. Finally looking back at her, Cecilia felt herself melting from his gaze. "So what, you disappear for days and then suddenly you remember you have things to hand over?"
Cecilia didn't know what to say to this. Vince's face played a bored look on it as his gaze remained on her. With instinct, Cecilia immediately bowed in apology.
"I apologize sir. I was…indisposed for some days causing my disappearance." Ceceila said.
It was true that he had indeed fired her, but why did she feel like she still owed him an explanation?
He hummed, finally returning his attention back to his desk. "Indeed you were. I'm pretty sure that's what made you rush out like you did."
With his words, Cecilia hung her head low, bitting her lower lip as she was left speechless. She had not expected her boss to bring up anything regarding that day as it was purely obvious that he wanted nothing to do with the engagement they were both being forced into.
Now that the engagement topic had been vaguely brought back to her mind, she felt thoughts and memories she was trying so hard to suppress rise up gradually. She felt her hands clenched in slight irritation as the thought of Bryan and everything began to make itself way into her head.
Why did this man have to bring up the dinner?
Taking in deep breaths, Cecilia let out a low sigh as she gave another bow in another apology. "Honestly, I'm truly sorry for that day sir." She apologized, avoiding looking at him.
"I know it was sudden and a bit rude of me to have rushed out of the house like I did that day. Something just came up and I had to leave quickly." She tried explaining.
"Hmm." Was all Vincent responded with.
She felt like scoffing at the indifferent attitude he was always so fond of pulling off. Made me understand why his mother had to arrange a financee for him instead as he seemed obviously unable to get a girlfriend with his his shitty personality of his.
But overlooking the personality, she of all people knew that if her boss was to indeed turn interested in finding a girlfriend overnight, he can literally have any girl whatsoever kneeling at his doorstep.
That's the thing about the man in front of her, His Family name isn't wasn't the only thing that described him. Vincent Quinn— with or without the Quinn can most definitely stand on his own if he truly wanted to. A year is truly not enough to know a person, but from that span of time, Vincent has been able to prove himself in various levels.
"Tell me, have my mother reached out to you since then?" his attention finally moved back to Cecilia.
She shook her head, "not that I know of sir. Unless she had spoken to my dad."
He stared at her silently for a while, twirling the pen he had in his hands between his fingers.
"Sit Cecilia."
