Chapter 43 - Eavesdropping on the Liu Family's Conversation

Just then, the office door was pushed open with a loud "bang." Liu Qingfeng was about to lose his temper, but when he saw Liu Jing, his anger vanished instantly, and a smile plastered across his face.

Seeing Li Zhiyan was also there, Liu Jing was immediately furious. "You little hussy, don't you have any sense of propriety? Fooling around in the office!" Her voice was sharp and grating, like a knife stabbing directly into Li Zhiyan's heart.

Li Zhiyan didn't respond, just gave her a cold look. Liu Jing became even angrier, preparing to step forward and teach this "hussy" a lesson. However, Liu Qingfeng, afraid that she would hurt Li Zhiyan and, more importantly, the child in her womb, grabbed her, "You have no manners. This is your aunt."

"Aunt, bah! Just a money-grubbing bitch," Liu Jing cursed without any hesitation, her eyes filled with disdain and contempt.

"Xiaojing, you're just in time; I need to ask you something," Liu Qingfeng quickly changed the subject, trying to defuse the impending conflict.

"What is it?" Liu Jing asked impatiently, her eyes still locked on Li Zhiyan, as if she wanted to devour her.

"Oh, Zhiyan, you go back first, I'll find you later," Liu Qingfeng waved his hand, signaling Li Zhiyan to leave.

Li Zhiyan knew she wouldn't fare well here, so she nodded and left the office. Walking down the company corridor, her heart couldn't calm down. She didn't leave; she sensed that these two had something to discuss. In Fengyun Group, whenever it involved illegal operations, they would always avoid her, ensuring the projects she was involved in were always clean.

This floor only had one office for the chairman. The surroundings were quiet, and even the air seemed to have solidified. Li Zhiyan stood at the end of the corridor, slightly tilting her ear to confirm that no one was passing by. Only then did she cautiously take off her high heels and walk barefoot towards the office door. Her heart was pounding violently, as if she would be discovered any second. She held her breath and pressed her ear against the door, listening to the movement inside.

"Jing, Fang Shaolin, you had Blackie Liu kill him?" Liu Qingfeng's voice was low and imposing, like a sharp knife piercing the heart.

Li Zhiyan covered her mouth, her eyes wide, afraid of making any sound. She felt a chill rising from her feet, reaching her heart. She had never imagined that there were such dark secrets hidden within the Liu family.

Liu Jing's voice sounded a little nervous: "Dad, how did you know?"

"Hmph, don't you see who Blackie Liu followed?" Liu Qingfeng's tone carried a hint of disdain, as if talking about something very simple.

Li Zhiyan felt a wave of dizziness, she clung to the door tightly, afraid of losing her balance. She remembered Blackie Liu, who always had a smile on his face, was actually a ruthless demon.

"Dad, didn't he handle it cleanly?" Liu Jing was a little flustered, her voice tinged with anxiety.

"How could Blackie Liu not handle it cleanly? He took the person to the mountains and disguised it as a car accident. It was very clean, but, at this critical time, the person died, what will others think of you, what will they think of Lixing, and what will they think of Fengyun Group? You, you don't think things through enough. If I had Li Zhiyan do it, she would be much smarter than you." Liu Qingfeng's tone carried a hint of blame and helplessness.

Li Zhiyan's heart nearly stopped when she heard her name. She couldn't believe she was being compared to Liu Jing, and in this situation no less. She felt a surge of anger, but even more fear.

"Dad, how can you say that about me? He's dead anyway, there's no way to prove anything. I'll have someone demolish that dilapidated house of his tomorrow," Liu Jing said, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance and discontent.

"What's the rush? The man just died, and you want to tear down the house? Wouldn't that be like admitting guilt?" Liu Qingfeng's tone held a touch of mockery.

"Dad, when do you think I should do it, then?" Liu Jing sounded somewhat helpless, her voice laced with a hint of desperation.

"Just wait. I need to talk to Director Wang and Director Zhang from the Chengguan Police Station first," Liu Qingfeng said, his voice calm and composed.

"Dad, we're losing tens of thousands of dollars a day," Liu Jing said, her voice filled with anxiety and unease.

"Is your life more important, or is money more important?" Liu Qingfeng's voice was stern and uncompromising.

"Of course, my life is more important," Liu Jing said, her voice filled with resignation and compromise.

"Right, keep those men of yours in line. Don't let them cause any trouble for us. Don't say things you shouldn't. If they can't control their mouths, I'll help them." Liu Qingfeng's tone brooked no argument.

"Dad, except for Xiaolin, you can do whatever you want with the others." Liu Jing replied lazily.

"Xiaolin?" Liu Qingfeng snorted coldly, "Such a mama's boy, not a bit of masculinity."

Liu Jing couldn't help but laugh, "Dad, you used that word perfectly, 'mama's boy.' But I like his gentleness and thoughtfulness."

"I say, you should find a husband too. You're still playing around like this. Your sister's about to have her baby." Liu Qingfeng's tone carried a hint of helplessness and expectation.

"Dad, I don't want to be like my sister, always revolving around her husband. I want a big, vast forest." Liu Jing's tone was filled with a longing for freedom.

"Alright, alright, do as you please. Anyway, I can't count on you two sisters." Liu Qingfeng sighed, seemingly not holding much hope for her future.

"Dad, is that vixen really carrying your child?" Liu Jing suddenly changed the topic, a hint of playfulness in her tone.

"There's no way I'm wrong. I was the only one there at the time," Liu Qingfeng stated firmly.

"What if you are?" Liu Jing pressed.

"Hmph, if I am, then she wouldn't need to be alive," Liu Qingfeng said, his voice low and sinister, laced with a chilling undertone.

"Dad, I hope this isn't your doing," Liu Jing said with a smile, a hint of provocation in her tone.

"You little brat, you dare talk to me like that?" Liu Qingfeng roared in anger.

Li Zhiyan, listening outside the door, was terrified, her cold sweat pouring. She knew she'd overheard something she shouldn't have, information that could trap her in an inescapable predicament. Her heart was filled with conflict and fear, unsure how to handle this sudden crisis.

She quietly took a few steps back, trying not to make a sound. Her mind raced, thinking about how she could turn this information to her advantage while protecting herself from being implicated. She knew this was a dangerous game, one wrong step could lead to her downfall.

She quickly put on her high heels, trying to stay calm as she headed toward the elevator. Her steps were unsteady, her heart pounding like a drum, as if someone would grab her from behind. She struggled to control her emotions, pretending everything was normal.

Her heart was still pounding when she got back to the office. She had to think of a way out. She never expected that after being shuttled around and courted by him, the moment she wasn't carrying his son, he'd try to get rid of her. Humph, if he wants me dead, I'll take him down with me.
