Chapter 39: The First Gathering of Imperial Power
After teasing his older brother, Yu Tianlin finally noticed the two burly young men with exaggerated muscles standing quietly nearby.
Yu Tianheng had already seen them too. He quickly introduced them to Yu Tianlin. "These two are the Shi brothers. The elder brother is called Shi Mo, level twenty eight. The younger brother is also called Shi Mo, level twenty seven. Both of them possess the Xuanwu Turtle martial soul, a top tier defensive beast martial soul."
Yu Tianlin greeted them politely. "Hello, Brothers Shi."
The two brothers, simply nodded in response. It was obvious they were not talkative and had calm, steady personalities.
Yu Tianheng glanced toward the nearby Tianwei teaching building and said, "Speaking of which, if we do not go find them after class today, they will probably come looking for us very soon."
He had just finished speaking when a frivolous voice rang out. "Hey, Boss, what are you all doing standing there?"
Yu Tianlin looked in the direction of the voice and saw a figure gliding toward them through the air, two yellow spirit rings circling around his body.
The flying youth's martial soul clearly belonged to a bird type. His arms had transformed into wings, covered in brownish yellow feathers that looked strong and flexible as they flapped.
Yu Tianheng's face darkened at once. He shouted, "Flying is prohibited inside the academy. Get down here."

After he landed, Yu Tianlin was finally able to see him clearly. The newcomer was quite handsome, with lively eyes full of mischief. One look and you could tell he was not someone who could sit still.
"Tianlin, this is Yu Feng," Yu Tianheng said, turning into a walking introduction machine. "His martial soul is the Wind Chime Bird. He is currently level twenty five, at the Tianwei level, so he studies in the building next door. Yu Feng, this is my younger brother, Yu Tianlin. He is now a student at Thunder Academy."
"Hello, Brother Yu Feng."
"Hey, Boss, you had a younger brother this whole time?" Yu Feng stared at Yu Tianlin, surprised. "He is really young and already so capable."
Yu Tianheng did not bother to respond to that and instead asked, "Where are Osler and Lingling?"
"The other two are still behind," Yu Feng chuckled. "I can fly, so I came over first."
"Do not think that just because you can fly, you can do whatever you want."
A figure suddenly flashed past, and a handsome blond youth appeared behind Yu Feng, lunging straight onto his back.
"Osler, you ambushed me!"
Yu Feng bent forward, trying to shake the blond youth off, but the latter wrapped his arms tight around Yu Feng's neck, not letting go.
Watching the two of them roughhousing, Yu Tianheng calmly continued his introductions. "This is Osler. His martial soul is the Black Panther. He is a level twenty five agility attack type battle Spirit Master, in the same class as Yu Feng. The two of them have a good relationship."
"Who has a good relationship with him?"
The moment Yu Tianheng finished speaking, the two shouted in unison.
"Snort."
Realizing they had spoken at the exact same time, they both snorted, then turned their heads away from each other in opposite directions.
Wow, that chemistry is insane. They definitely get along well.
While Yu Feng and Osler were fooling around, a girl quietly walked over to join them.
Among everyone present, she was the only one not wearing a Heaven Dou Royal Academy uniform. Her figure was slender, and she was dressed entirely in black. A black veil covered her face, clearly showing that she did not want others to see her appearance. Her long blue hair fell down her back like a waterfall, and her blue eyes were calm and distant, without the slightest ripple of emotion.
"Lingling is here too."
Yu Tianheng nodded slightly to her, then introduced, "This is Ye Lingling. Her martial soul is the Nine Heart Begonia. She is a level twenty two auxiliary type battle Spirit Master."
Dugu Yan added, "Lingling is the youngest among us, only ten years old, but she is still two years older than Tianlin. You can call her Sister Lingling."
"Hello, Sister Lingling."
Ye Lingling gave a slight nod in reply. That was already considered a very polite response from her.
Looking at the group in front of him, Yu Tianlin could not help feeling a little emotional.
There were still about five years left before the Battle of the Emperors the original story mentioned, yet these future teammates had already gathered and become friends this early.
Yu Feng, Osler, and Ye Lingling were all at the Tianwei level, while Yu Tianheng, Dugu Yan, and the Shi brothers were at the Tianzhi level. For the seven of them to come together like this could only be described as fate.
Noticing the trace of confusion in Yu Tianlin's eyes, Yu Tianheng explained, "Tianlin, you were standing at the classroom door earlier, so you should have seen it. Our classroom has forty seats, but there were only about ten students inside. Not even half."
Yu Tianlin thought back carefully. That was indeed the case. He could not help blurting out, "So the rest of them were skipping class?"
Yu Tianheng let out a cold laugh. "Skipping class is already putting it nicely. "It is the same for us in the Tianwei level," Yu Feng added. "The number of people in the classroom has never gone past fifteen."
Yu Tianlin was speechless. He had known that Heaven Dou Royal Academy was not exactly impressive, but he had not expected it to be this bad.
No wonder that despite being the so called highest institution of the Heaven Dou Empire, Heaven Dou Royal Academy had never made it into the top three of the All Continent Advanced Spirit Master Academy Elite Competition.
In that tournament, the top three spots were fixed. One belonged to Spirit Hall Academy, one to the Star Luo Royal Academy, and the last one rotated among the Five Elements Academies. Heaven Dou Royal Academy never even entered the conversation.
"Even those guys who actually come to class are just here to pass the time," Dugu Yan said. "Their parents are strict, so they have to show up enough to report a decent attendance. As for the rest of their day, they are just playing around. At most, when they feel like it, they use the academy's simulated cultivation environment occasionally, but they never truly put in serious effort."
Yu Tianlin finally understood. The academy's overall atmosphere was rotten. People like Yu Tianheng and his six companions, who genuinely worked hard at cultivation, were complete outliers. It was only natural that they would gravitate toward one another.
Birds of a feather flock together.
"Forget it, let us not talk about that," Yu Tianheng said. He did not want to dwell on those annoying things any longer. He patted Yu Tianlin's shoulder and smiled at the others. "I am very happy that Tianlin got into Thunder Academy. Lunch is on me today."
"Boss is treating!" Yu Feng's eyes lit up. "Boss is a rich man. Since he finally decided to spend money today, we have to make sure he bleeds a little for it."
