Chapter 56: A little Trip
The moment Ginny came out of the portal, she saw nothing but a blue sky. It took a moment for her brain to adjust and realize she was in mid-air, high up in the sky.
"Ahhh!" She let out a bloodcurdling scream.
"It's okay, you are not going to fall," Harry tried to calm her down.
"W-what…?" Ginny looked down and gasped at the terrifying sight. They must be over a thousand feet into the air. She could see a large metallic construction beneath her feet, and very far in the distance was the ground.
But then she also realized that, just like Harry said, she was not falling down. In fact, her feet appeared to be stepping onto something solid that she was unable to see.
"That was a cruel prank, Harry. You scared the poor girl," V commented.
"It's not a prank!" Harry hurried to say. "I couldn't risk opening a portal on the ground. I don't know which places are safe now that there are people everywhere."
"Why are we not falling? And where are we?" Ginny asked.
"There is a thin protective shield beneath our feet. It's something similar to a Protego charm, but this one is capable of interacting with solid matter, like us," Harry explained. "As for where we are, that would b—"
"Harry, before that… can you get me to the ground?" Ginny's body was trembling slightly. "I don't mind heights, but that's only when I'm riding my broom. It feels weird to be floating in mid-air like this."
"Right away." Harry moved the invisible magical construct they were on, making it appear as if they were hovering while slowly descending.
"Wait…" Ginny could now get a better look at their surroundings and at the metallic tower. "I think I saw this thing in a book before. What was it called?"
"That is the Eiffel Tower, which means he brought us to Paris," V responded.
"Right, that one!" Ginny exclaimed. "We are in Paris?!"
"Yes, as I was saying before, there is an ice cream parlor very close to the park," Harry said casually while pointing at something in the distance.
"Harry, we can't be here without permission! We could get into a lot of trouble. How did you even leave the country without an international Portkey?" Ginny started speaking very quickly, revealing her nervousness.
"My 'Gate' has no trouble crossing magical frontiers," Harry answered her.
But seeing her expression, he was now wondering if this had been a grave mistake.
He just wanted to bring Ginny to a place he liked without really thinking about it.
Most of the food inside the frozen world was truly terrible and unappetizing. However, once in a while, Harry would find some places that stood well above the rest.
He didn't need to eat to survive, but these few exceptional locations managed to recover some of his joy for eating food. This was why he had wanted to share it with someone else.
After all, V couldn't eat, so this was one experience that he had had to keep for himself until now.
"The Muggles can't see you, right?" V asked. They were now getting close to the ground.
"Right! I forgot about that." Ginny panicked. If they were caught using magic in a foreign country, they would likely get arrested by the local authorities.
"I already took care of it. They can't see us or hear us while we are inside the protective barrier I created. It's actually shaped like a bubble, so it covers all sides. Don't worry about the Muggles." Harry felt offended by the question. He was not going to make the same mistake again, like he did on his first visit to Diagon Alley.
Now he had taken proper precautions.
They landed on the ground, a bit further away from the mass of people. However, no one even looked in their direction and continued to act as if they didn't exist.
"Wow… okay. So, are we invisible to them?" Ginny wondered.
"Correct. There are several charms layered on the protective bubble to prevent detection." Harry glanced at Ginny. "I'm sorry about this. I didn't mean to do something that would scare you. If you want to, I can send us back home."
She raised her hand. "Hey, it's fine… really, I just got startled for a moment back there. Now that my feet are touching the ground and I realize that we didn't break the Statute of Secrecy, I feel much better."
Harry sighed. "I'm so glad to hear that."
Ginny chuckled at seeing how relieved Harry looked. "Just give me a heads-up the next time you are planning on teleporting me to the middle of the sky. Okay?"
"Okay, I promise," Harry said.
"I would also like the same promise," V decided to add.
"So… where is this shop? And how are you planning on buying some ice cream if no one can see us?" Ginny asked him.
"I will remove the bubble, but we need to go to a more desolate area so they don't just see us appear out of nowhere."
"Mmm…" Ginny stared at Harry up and down. "Even if we do that, they would still find your attire a bit peculiar," she commented.
Harry was wearing a dark set of wizard robes, as well as a large magical hat. It was not something that would blend in with the normal population of London.
"She has a point. But it's not difficult to solve," V said. "Muggles' eyes are easy to confuse."
Harry looked down at himself. "Oh, that… yes, I can easily fix it."
He pointed ahead. "There is an alley nearby. Let's go there first so I can remove the invisibility. Remember to stay close to me."
"Ehm… right." A light blush appeared on Ginny's cheeks.
