Chapter 64: Uninvited Guests
"Is it really them? How can you be sure?" Ginny asked.
"I can see them from here." Harry adjusted his glasses. The enchantment he placed on them allows him to view things clearly from a great distance, even at night. "There are only four."
"I can feel the magic from their cursed brand," V responded. "And there are actually five. There is one more on the other side of the wards."
Harry quickly turned his head around and looked towards the large boulder where he had carved the first runes. He was then able to spot someone on the other side of the protections. A female Death Eater was carefully examining the wards.
"You know what you have to do." V said in a somber tone. "Can you take care of this?"
Harry knew what his friend meant. If he went face-to-face with these people directly, they could not be allowed to leave alive and report back to the Dark Lord.
"Ginny." Harry had to shake her shoulders to earn her attention. She was shaking. "Go back into the house and warn your parents of what's happening, but dont let anyone leave. Seal all doors and windows."
Ginny broke out of her moment of stupor. "What about you? Come with me, we need to call the aurors."
"Notifying the Ministry may not be a great idea. The message is likely to fall into the hands of another Death Eater, or at least some of the Dark Lord's sympathizers." Harry explained.
"Are you saying that the entire Ministry of Magic is already under You Know Who's control? That's…"
"I dont know for sure, Ginny. But it is a strong possibility." Harry said.
They then heard a loud noise, which was soon followed by waves of light running across the ward's structure.
"They are trying to brute force their way in." V said.
"Ginny, go inside. Let's not waste more time with idle talk." Harry's expression had gotten much more serious now.
The girl was able to pick up on this. "Whatever you are going to do… be careful, please."
"Hey, it's going to be okay. You have my word of honor." V spoke with absolute confidence. "We can handle these guys."
Ginny finally took off running towards the house after giving Harry one last concerned look.
"That girl was being too dramatic…" V muttered. "I mean, it's only five of them. And you have me!"
Another loud noise was then heard, followed by more shockwaves.
"They are really going at it. Are you sure it won't collapse?" V asked.
"We have a bit of time. This may have been meant as a temporary measure, but I still put some effort into making something good." Harry responded.
The main issue with these wards was the lack of energy. Those tiny arkstones he used were only able to hold small amounts of magic, so under a violent assault like this one, they would run dry very quickly and then would need two or three days to recharge before the protections could be used again.
Harry first went in the direction of the boulder. The person working on that side was clearly the most skilled in wardbreaking. The others were just blasting at the shields with demolition spells.
"I think I can take a guess on who that woman is," V commented. "Its not like we had that many females to begin with, and when it comes to wardbreaking, there is one particular name that stands out."
"I dont want to hear their names now." Harry gritted his teeth.
"Fine. Just remember… dont hesitate. Because they will certainly not show you any mercy." V reminded him.
Harry was now getting close to the boulder area.
The female Death Eater was right on the other side of the ward boundaries, waving her wand around. But despite the proximity, she was unable to detect his presence.
None of them was able to actually see what was happening inside the wards. It was one of its features.
Harry walked up to the boundary and stopped. Then he closed his eyes and took a long, deep breath.
'This is to protect them. It has to be done. I won't let them harm her…' He reminded himself over and over.
When he opened them again, his eyes were devoid of any doubts or hesitation. He was ready.
"Celeritas." Harry proceeded to enhance his body for smoother and faster movement before rushing past the wards.
As its creator, he had no issue moving in and out of them.
The Death Eater let out a cry of surprise when she suddenly saw a person appearing right next to her and quickly moving to her back.
The wand in her hands immediately shifted its focus away from the wards and towards Harry. "Cruci—"
She moved fast, but nowhere near as fast as Harry.
"Divulsa." His hand became a blade before making a sharp vertical motion.
A purple light flashed for a fraction of a second and drew a thin line across the body of the Death Eater, from the top of her head down to her crotch.
She stopped all movement, as if she had been frozen.
And the next instant, her body became bisected right at the middle, each section falling on a different side.
The purple light had left behind a gooey substance on the cuts, which quickly started to eat away at the flesh while making a loud sizzling noise.
The Death Eater had died instantly, not even having time to cry in pain or to understand how she had lost the fight.
"Nasty curse indeed…" V decided to comment in an attempt to lighten the mood a little bit.
But this was not needed. Harry was now completely focused on his objective to eliminate all invaders.
"Four left." said Harry.
The grass around him was pushed aside by a powerful gust of wind produced by his magic.
And then… he took off flying.
