A young nun appeared when the visitor called for Sister Aileen, but she wasn't who he sought.
"I'm looking for Sister Aileen Fabian! She's elderly now."
"She died years back," the young Sister Aileen told him.
Learning of Aileen Fabian's death, the man's face fell with grief. He stood quiet for a moment before asking where she was buried, then walked away clutching his flowers.
He drove to the cemetery and located Aileen Fabian's grave, placing the flowers there.
"Forgive me, Sister, for being so late!" he murmured at the headstone, paying his respects. After a long silence, he continued.
"Sister, I've returned. Yesterday I visited my adoptive father's grave. I planned to see you today, but I had no idea you'd been gone for years.
Sigh... All I can do now is thank you for caring for me long ago.
Life's been good to me. I go by Denton now.
And I have wonderful news. I've recalled something important: my family lives in America. I'm American.
