Veronica's POV
"Why don't you open it and see for yourself?"
Leonardo had already fired up the engine and was pulling away from the curb.
I peeled back the pink wrapping paper carefully, revealing a sleek white box underneath. The brand logo was unmistakable—I knew exactly what this was.
"A new phone?"
It was the same make and model as Leonardo's, except his was black and mine was pristine white. Like a matching pair.
"Exactly. Since your phone got destroyed, I figured I owed you a replacement."
"You don't owe me anything. I can buy my own phone."
I had the money for it myself!
Leonardo had crushed my phone to eliminate that tracking malware, and I was grateful for that. But I didn't need him playing hero and compensating me.
"Consider it a present. Besides, it's already purchased—might as well put it to good use."
Leonardo's tone carried a hint of hope that I'd stop pushing away every gesture he made.
"But everything on my old phone..."
