One moment Ximena was ready to unleash hellfire on Ezekiel Enzo at her locker, and the next second, Mr. Overconfident himself was standing there looking like a lost dog begging for scraps. Actually asking for a chance to talk. To say sorry.

I nearly choked on my own spit. If Ezekiel was suddenly developing feelings, the apocalypse had to be right around the corner.
Ximena stood there completely motionless, like someone had hit her pause button. The poor girl looked wiped out—her hair messy, shadows under her eyes, staring at him like she couldn't figure out if she should yell, break down, or just disappear.
