Phoebe's POV
"Help!"
A shrill scream pierced the air, and I watched Alistair immediately pocket his phone and rush to my side, his massive frame creating a protective barrier around me.
He must have assumed the bodyguards had found an opening to overpower his crew.
But when Alistair saw what was actually unfolding, I noticed his mouth twitch with barely contained amusement.
With nothing but a combat blade and the cover of my precise gunfire, Gloria had managed to slip from the laboratory and position herself directly behind Burton.
The blade now rested against Burton's throat, forcing his security team to freeze, paralyzed by the fear of accidentally striking their boss.
Alistair's gaze shifted between Gloria's fluid movements and deadly focus, then back to my composed expression. However he analyzed it, we radiated the same energy.
"Miss Hale," Alistair said hesitantly, "is she... working for you?"
