"Can we hit the Ellis place first?" I asked, trailing behind Harold toward the car. My voice came out lazy, but the excitement underneath was impossible to hide.
Harold didn't respond immediately. He motioned for me to climb into the car, then pivoted toward his two buddies. "Phoebe and I are taking off. I need you two to handle some things while I'm..."
"Tied up," Harold said after hesitating, picking his words with care.
Lucas brushed him off with a wave. "No sweat. Just keep Phoebe entertained for the next couple days. We'll hit you up if something urgent pops up."
I caught the smirk on Lucas's face, a silent acknowledgment that 'tied up' was the understatement of the century.
Harold gave a quick nod, slipped into the car, and slammed the door shut.
Rogers gunned it instantly, the car shooting forward like a rocket.
