Harold watched me carefully, choosing his words like he was walking through a minefield. "Katie's still family, so we had to get her to the hospital. Babe, are you mad we didn't go harder on them?"
My smile widened. "Mad? Why would I be? I grabbed Katie and Jeremy because they ticked me off, not because I wanted them dead. If I'd really wanted that, my golden needles would've done the job right there."
Harold lifted my hand to his mouth, pressing his lips against my knuckles. "Good. Once she's awake, I'll make sure the second branch gives you a real apology."
"Skip the apology—I don't want to see their faces," I said, guilt probably plastered all over mine as I shut that down fast.
After all, Katie and Jeremy weren't waking up anytime soon. Not unless they somehow got their hands on Buck, that miracle doctor.
Let them get a taste of what they dished out, I thought with satisfaction.
