My uncles had written Sergio off as dead long ago.
If I hadn't come back to dig into my sister's death, they never would've let him anywhere near me.
That bastard begged me to return, only to treat me like garbage and let his mistress and her brats walk all over me. If I hadn't told my uncles to stay out of it, they would've made Sergio pay dearly.
Harold's complete dismissal of Sergio and the Hale family had won over Uncle Dale and Uncle Julian completely. After breakfast, when Harold and I were heading out to handle some business, both men cheerfully walked us to the door.
When Harold casually mentioned we should swing by a church and tie the knot, my two uncles didn't even blink.
I stared at them in disbelief. "Uncles, I get that Harold's being generous with you, but could you at least pretend to play hard to get? You're being way too obvious!"
Uncle Julian waved me off. "Go on, you and Harold handle your business. We won't hold you up for lunch."
